The Sun Will Explode in 5 Billion Years

from News For Kids · host ICRT

Do you know why there is so much light during the day? It's because of the sun! The light from the sun makes everything bright. But have you ever thought of what would happen if the sun… went out? That is something that could happen, but don't worry. It won't happen for 5 billion years, which is a really, really, really, really long time from now. We know that the sun will still be around for about 5 billion years because very smart scientists figured it out. However, the scientists say the sun won't just burn out, it will actually explode. When the sun cools down, it will expand, which means it will keep getting bigger, and bigger, and bigger… until it swallows up all of the planets that are near it! That's scary! And it also doesn't sound like very much fun for anything that is still living on Earth. But good thing we don't have to worry about it, unless we live to be 5 billion years old! ________________________________ Vocabulary 沒有了太陽,人類可以存活嗎? 1. This Impact Studios production is a collaboration with the Governor family, UTS Faculty of Law and Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research. The Last Outlaws teamKatherine Biber - UTS Law Professor and Chief InvestigatorAunty Loretta Parsley - Great-granddaughter of Jimmy Governor and the Governor Family Historian Leroy Parsons - Governor descendant, Narrator and Co-WriterKaitlyn Sawrey - Host, Writer and Senior ProducerFrank Lopez - Writer, Managing Next Generation Energy Systems Cambridge University Background Stakeholders working with energy systems have to make complex decisions formulated from risk-based assessments about the future. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
