This Planet Has Clouds Made of Sand

from News For Kids · host ICRT

This Planet Has Clouds Made of Sand Scientists study planets, stars, and more in space. Space is cool. It has many surprises! WASP-107b is a planet. It’s much bigger than Earth. It's much hotter. It's about 500 degrees!* *It's close to its sun, so one year is six days! WASP-107b is strange*. *Winds blow 36,000 kilometers per hour. And the planet is very light and fluffy! Some scientists call it a "cotton candy" planet. WASP-107b’s clouds are very strange. They're made of… sand?!?Scientists think the rocks in the sand are very small. They're smaller than the rocks in Earth’s sand. These sand clouds make sand rain! The sand goes down to the planet. It turns into a gas. The gas goes up to the clouds. Water does the same on Earth. How do scientists know about these sand clouds? A special space telescope showed them. It's helping scientists find out more about space. Clouds rain sand onto a cotton candy planet. What a surprise! Hey, look, there’s a cotton candy stand! Cotton candy! I haven’t had it for years. I loved it when I was little. Yeah, it’s so fluffy it’s like eating clouds. We’d like 2 cotton candies. Sure, that’s 60 NT. 3. made of 做成 What is this made of, do you think? This Impact Studios production is a collaboration with the Governor family, UTS Faculty of Law and Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research. The Last Outlaws teamKatherine Biber - UTS Law Professor and Chief InvestigatorAunty Loretta Parsley - Great-granddaughter of Jimmy Governor and the Governor Family Historian Leroy Parsons - Governor descendant, Narrator and Co-WriterKaitlyn Sawrey - Host, Writer and Senior ProducerFrank Lopez - Writer, Managing Next Generation Energy Systems Cambridge University Background Stakeholders working with energy systems have to make complex decisions formulated from risk-based assessments about the future. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
