The United States has been supporting Ukraine since 2014—11 years. During that time, we have provided at least $200 billion, with some estimates suggesting the amount is even higher. While much of that money goes to American defense contractors, it’s important to note that the U.S. must create additional debt to allocate these funds. In other words, the U.S. is borrowing money to support Ukraine, and the country is already $36.5 trillion in debt. The nation's debt has become a significant concern, especially under the Trump administration, which is currently focused on cutting government spending, negotiating a new budget, and raising the debt ceiling. Given the financial climate, it couldn't be worse timing for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to visit the U.S. and engage in a heated confrontation with President Trump.
