Responding to threats of legal action from the Utah Transit Authority, the Perry City Council last week reinstated a .30% sales tax that helps fund the UTA. The council voted unanimously Jan. 22 to approve Ordinance 26-A, severing what it described as “invalid portions” of a 2023 ordinance that repealed the UTA tax in December 2023. The tax amounts to 30 cents on every 0 in taxable purchases. No public explanation of the “invalid portions” was given before the vote.
