UTA threatens Perry with legal action over city's 2023 repeal of transportation tax

Responding to threats of legal action from the Utah Transit Authority, the Perry City Council last week reinstated a .30% sales tax that helps fund the UTA. The council voted unanimously Jan. 22 to ap­prove Ordinance 26-A, severing what it described as “invalid portions” of a 2023 ordinance that repealed the UTA tax in December 2023. The tax amounts to 30 cents on every 0 in taxable purchases. No pub­lic explanation of the “invalid portions” was given before the vote.
