Lasciata la piazza della Chiesa di San Martino, incamminatevi verso via Parodi, il caruggio principale del Borgo, dove, insieme a via Maineri, incontrerete gli edifici storici più antichi di Toirano, spesso adornati con elementi di ardesia, una pietra nera tipica del Ponente Ligure.Già all’imbocco della via, sulla sinistra, trovate casa Durante, riconoscibile dalla sua facciata di pietre squadrate, risalente al 1200 - 1300. Ma l’edificio più rappresentativo del caruggio è probabilmente la loggia del Paraggiu, antica residenza dei vescovi d’Albenga, retta da massicce colonne, sui cui capitelli sono scolpiti gli scudi araldici. La via porticata accanto conduce all’ingresso rinascimentale del Palazzo, arricchito dall’architrave in ardesia, realizzato nel 1503, con con l’effigie di S. Michele, patrono della diocesi. Via Parodi conduce infine su piazza Libertà, dove si trova la grande facciata dell’antico palazzo D’Aste, un’ala del quale è sede del Museo Etnografico della Val Varatella - il cui accesso si trova su via Polla. Se siete curiosi di scoprire di più sulla storia di Toirano, lì potrete trovare una collezione di antichi strumenti, abiti e cimeli che ricostruiscono la vita toiranese nei secoli passati.Da piazza della Libertà, continuando a camminare lungo Via Parodi incontrerete l’Oratorio Barocco del Transito di San Giuseppe, sormontato da una bellissima cupola di ardesia.
