Im Vergleich zum Vorjahr sind die Asylanträge in Deutschland um 77 Prozent gestiegen, das geht aus einem aktuellen Bericht des Bundesamts für Migration und Flüchtlinge hervor. Auch dreizehn Jahre nach Ausbruch des Bürgerkriegs gehören Syrerinnen und Syrer zur größten Gruppe von Asylsuchenden in Deutschland, gefolgt von Afghanistan, der Türkei und dem Irak. Christian Vooren, Reporter für Politik und Gesellschaft bei ZEIT ONLINE, hat mit neun Kollegen analysiert, woher die meisten Asylsuchenden nach Deutschland kommen und berichtet im Podcast, wovor sie fliehen. Vor etwa zehn Tagen wurden bei dem Überfall eines serbischen Kommandotrupps auf kosovarische Polizisten im Norden des Kosovo vier Menschen getötet. Der Vorfall hat die Spannungen zwischen Serbien und dem Kosovo verschärft, die bereits seit Monaten zu eskalieren drohen. Verschiedenen Berichten zufolge soll das serbische Militär außerdem seine Truppen an der Grenze zum Kosovo aufgestockt haben.
