What You Need to Know About Meditative Heartbeat Therapy

from The Heart of Hospice Podcast · host Helen Bauer BSN RN CHPN

Hospice chaplain and end of life doula Daniel DeLoma is devoted to the sacred task of helping others die well, with dignity, presence, and the steady rhythm of the heart as their guide. His work has purpose. From the very start of Daniel’s work in end of life care, he knew the importance of working with the dying. Daniel’s chaplain work made him realize that presence and prayer were not enough to meet the spiritual needs of his patients and caregivers. The development of meditative heartbeat therapy grew organically through his practice. The therapy connects people with their own heartbeat and is easily utilized by anyone. Using simple techniques, heartbeat therapy has a calming effect, reducing anxiety and pain perception. The therapy can be implemented to help patients fall asleep. Using a special stethoscope (like a Littman or Eko stethoscope) enables recording the heartbeat for playback for both the patient and the family. Hearing a loved one’s heartbeat can be a source of comfort after a death.     Connect with Chaplain Daniel DeLoma and Meditative Heartbeat Therapy: Website:https://www.heartbeattherapy.com/ Purchase a copy of Daniel’s book Meditative Heartbeat Therapy: A Contemplative Guide to Presence, Rhythm, and Care at End-of-Life here Find all of Barbara Karnes’ products and resources at bkbooks.com.
