Why Promotions Without a Career Path can Destroy your Business

from Engaging Your People for Success with Lisa Askwith · host Lisa Askwith, IBGR onAir Talent

To ensure your business is the best that it can be, this episode focuses on Promotions, and how important it is to get them right and have them linked to your career paths and development plans. in your business. The entire system should be positive and work for you, not against you. Many business owners and leaders forget that promotions are more than just knowing you have a succession plan available in the business. Or knowing that you have some staff that are ready to take a step further in their careers. In fact looking at promotions that way will intrinsically lead to promotions being based on connections, think about it, if you are only using subjective findings you are heading down a dangerous path, as it means you are not actually opening the floor to everyone, or objectively ranking, or understanding those you are targeting for promotion. I have seen many company’s make this critical error, and the result is the great staff who have been working at the top of their game, are overlooked because someone has come to know someone personally and they are missing the other people in the business who actually might be able to do a better job…..this simply means that your other great staff will end up going elsewhere and you will lose doubly, as they are hard to replace and the promotion you made may not be suitable after all!!!
