Back Home to the Armadillo KUT & KUTX Studios In August of 1970, a music venue opened on the corner of Barton Springs Road and South First in Austin, TX. The building was an old National Guard armory—no air conditioning, no seating, just a giant cavernous space that frankly, was not well suited for music. Yet this local eyesore would go on to change the identity of Austin, culturally, politically, artistically. And its reverberations would be felt far and wide, helping turn Austin into the Live Music Capital of the World. This is the story of how that happened. This is the story of the Armadillo World Headquarters.Join KUTX as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of this historic music venue. Starting August 17, you can hear an hour-long oral history covering the Armadillo’s musical legacy, from blues and the birth of cosmic country to the punk rock explosion. You’ll learn why 50 years later, the Armadillo World Headquarters is still a beacon for Austin’s past, present, and future. Produced and hosted by Art Levy at KUT Houston We Have a Problem (With Space Junk) Inception Point Ai Houston, We Have a (Garbage) Problem Picture this: you're an astronaut, floating peacefully in space, minding your own business. Suddenly, a fleck of paint whizzes by your helmet at 17,500 miles per hour. That's not a shooting star, my friend—it's space junk, and it's a growing problem for our cosmic neighborhood. Since the dawn of the space age, humans have been launching objects into Earth's orbit like there's no tomorrow. We've sent up satellites, rockets, and even a few lucky individuals (shoutout to Yuri Gagarin). But what goes up doesn't always come down, and now we're facing a serious case of orbital congestion. You see, space junk isn't just an eyesore; it's a genuine threat to our space activities. Those tiny bits of debris can cause major damage to satellites and spacecraft and even pose risks to life on Earth. It's like playing a high-stakes game of dodgeball, except the balls are supersonic and made of metal. In this epic exploration of space junk, w Lena’s Architecture Podcast Lena B Lena takes on the town and is going to learn everything about iconic architectural styles and buildings! We will try to answer, how might architectural preservation play a role in maintaining the soul of a modernising city like London? Each style offers different buildings and we will discuss their:Historical Significance,Architectural Features and Style,Cultural and Community Impact,Challenges in Preservation, andFuture Relevance.Let us know what buildings we should visit! your favorite landmark or eyesore!
