In haar fantasierijke jeugdboeken mag het allemaal een beetje pijn doen.  Het schrijven is iets dat ze laat ontdekte. Na meer dan 200 boeken van anderen te hebben geillustreerd, brak ze op haar 52ste door met 'Lampje', dat meteen meerdere prijzen won en een televisieserie werd. Lovend waren ook de recensies op haar tweede boek, ‘Krekel’, dat dit jaar uit kwam.  In Brainwash Zomerradio interviewt Floortje Smit denkers aan de hand van muziek. In tien afleveringen spreekt ze met filosofen, wetenschappers, theatermakers en schrijvers over de muziek die vormend is geweest voor hun identiteit en voor hun denken.
