How Do I Deal with Emotional Abuse? | Ask Dr. Betters
In this episode Dr. Betters answers the question, "People quickly recognize the pain and sin of physical abuse, but what about emotional abuse? I know that everyone is sinful and the tongue can be a weapon, but how far is too far? My husband doesn’t curse me out (so to speak) but yet his words hurt; they break my heart; he is controlling and manipulative, yet when I try to talk about anything he just insists it’s all my fault and that I am the problem. I’ve heard you tell people they need to search themselves and look in the mirror, and I am really trying to do that because I know that I am bringing my own sin behaviors into the relationship, but I am desperate to put Christ in the center of my marriage, and I don’t know how to do that when my partner is focused on tearing me down in order to deem himself blameless."Dr. Chuck Betters, drawing from his own faith struggles—especially the tragic loss of his sixteen-year-old son, Mark—has assisted countless individuals facing similar challenges over more than five decades of ministry. What Does the Bible Say About Single Woman in Ministry? | Ask Dr. Betters
In this episode, Dr. Betters answers the following question from Rhonda: "I have heard many people espouse Paul’s teachings about singleness and marriage. I am a single woman who has never married. I am not single by my own choice, but I do have a desire to be married. In serving in ministry, I have found that most churches tend to shun single women in ministry, especially single women who are called into children’s ministry. The trend is to have a husband-and-wife team, believing it is a good balance and representation of godly relationships. Can you explain what the Bible has to say about this?"Dr. Chuck Betters, drawing from his own faith struggles—especially the tragic loss of his sixteen-year-old son, Mark—has assisted countless individuals facing similar challenges over more than five decades of ministry. I’m afraid it is going to define her life, and it breaks my heart that she will suffer from this her whole life. The doctors explained it may very well have been caused by me being a carrier of that gene. I had no idea and now, when I look at her in pain, I can’t help but feel like it is all my fault. Why Does God Allow Children to Suffer? | Ask Dr. Betters
In this episode, Dr. Betters answers the question, "Dr., I have a question. It hurts me when I see kids in pain and suffering – little babies/kids born with deadly diseases who suffer for 3 to 5 yrs before they die. Why? Kids that are tortured and shot…What about "psychopaths" that abuse and kill innocent kids? Why does God allow this to happen? These kids are angels…they haven't sinned. Today I hate God like I've never hated anyone or anything. 15 years of beatings and suffering has taken its toll on my faith and love for God. Why Won't God Take Away My Same-Sex Attraction? | Ask Dr. Betters
In this episode, Dr. Betters answers the question, “All my life I’ve been attracted to the same sex, going back to early childhood (elementary school age). I’ve heard we’re born straight, gay, or bi. I’ve heard as a Christian that it’s a sin. I believe it is. I have never acted upon with it another man, only in thought and through fleshly pleasures. I am saved and baptized. I believe in God, in Christ. I’ve accepted Him as my creator and Savior and Lord. But I’m torn between why I’m gay and why He has never taken it from me. I’ve prayed for it to be taken, I’ve tried giving up the thoughts and feelings of sexual desire towards men. It never goes away! I hate it! It has consumed my entire life in every way and has ruined my life since middle school. I need help! What am I doing wrong to get rid of it? Am I to live with it till death yet learn to not act or think on it? Please help, Dr. Betters. I’m at the point of giving up on God or dying now to have the peace I hear of in heaven.”Dr. Chuck Betters, drawing from his own faith struggles—especially the tragic loss of his sixteen-year-old son, Mark—has assisted countless individuals facing similar challenges over more than five decades of ministry. Should Christians Report Abuse Even If Forgiveness Is Given? | Ask Dr. Betters
In this episode, Dr. Betters, in response to "Will I Know My Abuser in Heaven?", answers the question, "I feel that abusers get away with their actions both on Earth and in Heaven. Christians should speak up and report abuse—spiritual forgiveness doesn’t eliminate legal consequences."Dr. Chuck Betters, drawing from his own faith struggles—especially the tragic loss of his sixteen-year-old son, Mark—has assisted countless individuals facing similar challenges over more than five decades of ministry. How Do I Find Direction in a Toxic Environment? | Ask Dr. Betters
In this episode, Dr. Betters answers the question, "Hello, I am a college-age female, and I feel that God has left me. I feel like I always tried to follow his path even when none of my family went to church. I felt all my life that God was telling me to go one direction in ministry and then, when it was time to apply for schools and I told people, they told me that was not my calling. I feel like I don't have direction anymore and no one cares about me. I feel like God has put me here all alone, and every time I feel very connected to God and that I am following the right path and feel at peace something happens or I'm told that I’m not good enough. I don't know if I even believe in God anymore. I have been sexually, physically, and emotionally abused all of my life and I now suffer from PTSD, depression, and anxiety. It's hard even at 20-some to leave such a toxic environment because I don't feel connected or have any support. I've been to Reach and the young adult group, but I don't feel like I belong, and no one would like me anyway. There are always so many people, and I will never be the popular one or the "chosen" one or the one who they are happy to see, so I have stopped going to church and everything all together, but I now feel even worse. I am always the outcast and people don't like me anyway. I don't know what to do. I don't know why I am so unclean, messed up, and unworthy. I don't know why God hates me so much and why no one really cares. I don't know what I should do. Does God even love me anymore or have a purpose for my life?"Dr. Chuck Betters, drawing from his own faith struggles—especially the tragic loss of his sixteen-year-old son, Mark—has assisted countless individuals facing similar challenges over more than five decades of ministry. Why Would God Create a World with So Much Evil? | Ask Dr. Betters
In this episode, Dr. Betters answers the question, "My only question is this, and no one has been able to answer it so far. If God knew there would be murderers and people tortured and blown up and raped, etc., why would he create this world even if it’s only temporary? I can’t believe that God would allow that kind of suffering to exist, knowing beforehand it would. You may say it’s free will and we chose it. That well may be true, but he’s omniscient and knew that murderers and torture would exist. Why would you even create that kind of world? What’s the purpose? Not for his own pleasure or glory. He doesn’t need that. He doesn’t need your praise and worship. I understand this world is just a blink of an eye, and our redemption and heaven await us. But think about it, why would any omniscient god create any chance of evil in his world? I understand he wanted free will for us to choose him and love him, not like robots. I get it, but if he knew there was a chance of murderers, torture, and children starving to death and diseases, even though it’s a small blink of an eye compared to eternity, it’s still horrible for us here on earth while we exist. I can’t get over the fact that he would ever even consider that kind of world to create. Please help me understand."Dr. Chuck Betters, drawing from his own faith struggles—especially the tragic loss of his sixteen-year-old son, Mark—has assisted countless individuals facing similar challenges over more than five decades of ministry. Does God Want Me to Stay in an Abusive Marriage? | Ask Dr. Betters - Deconstructing One's Faith
In this episode, Dr. Betters answers the question, "Within the first weeks of marriage, I knew my husband was abusive. I’ve lived with the abuse for years and I’ve hidden it because I don’t want people to think badly of him – especially his boss. He is very charming in his work and socially. If He could intervene in my life for other matters, why not for my soul? I don’t understand why He chose to treat me this way."Dr. Chuck Betters, drawing from his own faith struggles—especially the tragic loss of his sixteen-year-old son, Mark—has assisted countless individuals facing similar challenges over more than five decades of ministry. Why Would God Let Me Stay So Lonely? | Ask Dr. Betters
In this episode, Dr. Betters answers the question, "I am very lonely these days without a husband and children who are very busy with their own lives to visit. My old friends are no more, leaving me alone all the time. I have prayed that God would bring someone into my life to have someone to talk with and hang out with on occasion, not necessarily a life companion, just a friend, but he has not answered me. Why? If we were created to have fellowship with others, why would he not bring someone into my life to help fill that lonely void inside my heart?"Dr. Chuck Betters, drawing from his own faith struggles—especially the tragic loss of his sixteen-year-old son, Mark—has assisted countless individuals facing similar challenges over more than five decades of ministry. Is My Son Truly Saved? Looking Into the Soul | Ask Dr. Betters
In this episode, Dr. Betters answers the question, "Dr. Betters, I am a born-again Christian (I believe you remember me), and I raised my children as such, and they made a profession of faith around 8 years of age. Now, at 42, he has embraced science, UFO, and other such worldly answers while searching for something to believe in. He vacillates between the two. After listening to him and showing him the fallacy of his judgment, I asked him clearly, "Whom do you choose?" After evading and modifying the question, I return to the question, "Whom do you choose this day?" I asked my pastor (when my son was in his teens), "As much as anyone can look into the soul of another, do you believe my son is saved?" His answer was "yes." Help me settle my heart for my son."Dr. Chuck Betters, drawing from his own faith struggles—especially the tragic loss of his sixteen-year-old son, Mark—has assisted countless individuals facing similar challenges over more than five decades of ministry. Why Is the Book of Enoch Not in the Bible? | Biblical Canon Explained
In this episode, Dr. Betters answers the question, "Why is the Book of Enoch not considered a true book from God? Did Jesus mention the book of Enoch in Mathew 22: 29-30? If the book of Enoch is not true, then how did Jude refer to Enoch's Prophecy in Jude chapter 1:14-15?"Dr. Chuck Betters, drawing from his own faith struggles—especially the tragic loss of his sixteen-year-old son, Mark—has assisted countless individuals facing similar challenges over more than five decades of ministry. Admission Compared to the Rewards in Heaven?
In this episode, Dr. Betters answers the question, "I have been studying Heaven and trying to understand admission versus the rewards in Heaven. A preacher/teacher explained that Heaven is like going to a football game. Our ticket - Jesus gets us inside the stadium. Our life - deeds - our fruit determines where we sit. On the 50-yard line or in the nosebleed section in the end zone. Is this simple analogy valid? Thanks for all you do."Dr. Chuck Betters, drawing from his own faith struggles—especially the tragic loss of his sixteen-year-old son, Mark—has assisted countless individuals facing similar challenges over more than five decades of ministry.
