What happens after the lights fade and the stadium empties? On this powerful episode of Bailey & Buck Unplugged, we sit down with Miami Hurricanes legend Randal Hill — known to fans as “Thrill Hill” — to talk about life beyond the game, mental toughness, leadership, and the transition from the NFL to a 20-year career as a federal agent. Mike shares the turning point that pushed him to prioritize his mental wellness: a painful in-game moment early in his career that led him to work with therapist Kevin Elko, learn mental performance tools, and rebuild his confidence—so powerfully that he says he never gave up another touchdown after that play. He opens up about growing up without his mother, how childhood anger showed up on the field, and how therapy helped him understand what he was really carrying. The conversation also dives into marriage, communication, and what it looks like to model emotional strength as a father—because Mike doesn’t just go to therapy; he brings his kids too, making it clear that getting support is normal, healthy, and encouraged. From the importance of decompression time after work, to using the gym as mental clarity, to coaching with discipline without humiliation, Mike offers real-world tools for athletes, parents, and partners. This episode is packed with powerful reminders: your mistakes aren’t forever, asking for help isn’t weakness, and resilience is built through honesty, community, and the courage to do the inner work—on and off the field. If you or someone you love is struggling, you’re not alone.Call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (free and confidential). Mental Health Quick Cast: Dr. Steven Schnur
Dr. Steven Schnur, CEO of Lynx Advisory and Lynx Medical, board-certified internist and cardiologist, joins Bailey & Buck Unplugged for a grounded conversation on mental health. He shares how he performed life-saving CPR mid-flight, why he tells patients to “treat mental illness like a disease,” and the simple 1–10 mood scale he uses with family and friends to spark honest check-ins. Dr. Schnur also tackles the darker realities of social media, pointing to the recent Charlie Kirk murder circulating online as an example of how constant exposure to violence and negativity warps perception, fuels depression, and heightens suicide risk among teens and young adults. His insights shed light on why today’s generation faces such heavy mental health challenges and what parents, friends, and communities can do to help. We dig into exercise, nutrition, and tight-circle accountability as daily tools, the impact of comparison culture, and a clear, compassionate take on when medication matters in the short term versus lifelong care. Plus, practical ways to notice early warning signs and start real conversations at home.🎙️ Bailey and Buck Unplugged is hosted by Robert Bailey, Bailey Brooks Mashburn, and Misty Buck in support of the Kennedy Kids Foundation.
