Community Shower

Nath, Drew, and sometimes Justin started this podcast because they were bored during COVID. They mostly say dumb bullshit to make each other laugh. 2020-2023.

Episode 111 - Drew Is Wrong About Movies

We’re finally back, after a month full of scheduling difficulties and other mishaps. Nath discloses that he’s returned to the world of regular employment, which may not bode well for the release schedule. Drew tells us about his upcoming big move. We discuss what it’s like to be The Night People, overmedicating children, comics that exemplify why they’re called the “funny pages,” “necks” according to my notes, and movie pitches and great movies, as well as movie release dates that Drew is definitely wrong about. We might even have gotten around to some of the recent news stories, if we stopped reprising “Sing Sing Sing” to fill time. All this and more in the latest episode of Community Shower, raw and unfiltered! (Meaning I didn’t take the time to edit it)Original airdate: July 7, 2023This would end up being our final episode.

  2. 112

Episode 110 - Wes Anderson’s The Grand Chinese Spectacle

We’re back to talk about robes and other podcast-appropriate clothing, the latest interview with Dianne Feinstein, mashups, how to get good service on food delivery apps, street jokes, and an explainer of one of the funniest tweets of all time.Original airdate: May 19, 2023

  3. 111

Episode 109 - Mormon Gangstarappernacle Choir

We are back with a certified banger! We cover a whole lot of rap and rappers in our intro, then move on to some of the luminaries of conservative thought, like Steven Crowder and Rod Dreher. We discuss some of the stranger aspects of our upbringings, look at comedy through the lens of cultural landmarks like Ted Lasso, Patton Oswalt, Pauly Shore, and Carlos Mencia, and cover presidential assassinations and great multi-hyphenates of our time. We return to the discussion of rap and DJs several times throughout, and stand in solidarity with the WGA writer’s strike.Original airdate: May 8, 2023

Episode 108 - The Real Story of 9/11

So this episode, we tried to record a couple of weeks ago but I had to leave early before we finished, so we only got half an episode or so in the can. Unfortunately, we couldn't meet up to finish the episode until recently. So you kind of have two separate episodes grafted together here, but it's practically episode-and-a-half sized, so it's worth the wait. Some of our topics include dudes and their qualities of rocking, James Joyce, television, Shrek raves, jobs and how to get them, what makes life worth living and whether it even is, and also just a segment where we list famous lesbians we've heard of. You'll want to stick with this one all the way through the end for one of the craziest stories you'll ever hear.Original airdate: April 14, 2023

  5. 109

Episode 107 - ”Too Much Shit in My Ass” by Stynx

We're back to talk about problems with our physical health, bad body armor, bad recipe hacks, political campaigns throughout American history, and more, I'm sure.Original airdate March 29, 2023

  6. 108

Episode 106 - Drew Beats Off Covid III: Revenge of the Sick

This episode, some of our topics include the various types of theft, the George Lucas Extended Cinematic Universe and how it all ties together, Modesto vs. Stockton, which town might be the Modesto of Houston, the best Cajun and seafood restaurants, the worst ideas for food the Midwest has to offer, our favorite tiki bars and other kinds of cocktail bars, and what Nath's cooking for dinner. It is not pinto beans and cornbread, although I wish I had some cornbread now.Original airdate March 13, 2023

  7. 107

Episode 105 - Osmosis Jones. Who? Osmosis Jones!

This week, we discuss the titular movie, the LAPD Rampart scandal, the early days of disco, numerous unsavory practices of British institutions, and more.Original airdate March 3, 2023

  8. 106

Episode 104 - Chris Hansen Sucked Me Off??

After a week off due to scheduling issues (vacation, illness, mania), we’re back and cover a lot of topics. Join us as we take a look back at the early 2000s, when lad mags, brozines, and manevision ruled the Earth. We also revisit the era through one of Pitchfork’s most memorable album reviews. We take a look at the great thumbnails of the western world (image, not primate), explore why “To Catch a Predator” ended, the origins of podcasting and the term “podcast,” consider a world where Drew constantly bugs minor celebrities for mundane questions about sandwich orders, and much more.Original airdate February 24, 2023

  9. 105

    Episode 103 - Blackmail Nanjiani

This week’s episode features discussions on the shelf life of cum, the connection between Steven Seagal and Modern Warfare, what Family Guy gets right about marriage, pervert Dans, Attorney Fren, Racist Scatman John, Racist Everybody Loves Raymond, racist gamers, and more. Not actually much about Kumail Nanjiani in this episode, which could also function as an anti-vaping PSA.Original airdate February 10, 2023

  10. 104

Episode 102 - Statutory Rick and Corrupting a Morty

This week we continue our transition into a music podcast with a much funnier look at various artists and songs, mostly real ones, although we did imagine a world of little people country music cover bands. We also discuss Nath’s skill issues at poker, the comedy of Aziz Ansari and 30 Rock, the origins of asbestos, Shingy, arena rock, and have several extended discussions on the human anatomy. Plus, as you may have guessed, we get around to reading Justin Roiland’s DMs.Original airdate February 3, 2023

  11. 103

Episode 101 - Rank the Beatles

We had a big topic we wanted to discuss this week, but we ended up spending most of the episode ranking the Beatles’ #1 singles. So we’ll get to that topic next episode. We do talk about a few other things, but I don’t remember which ones we talked about on episode vs. after the episode. Body hair comes up, if that’s your thing. Hopefully you’ll at least be happy we’re releasing on a regular schedule again.Original airdate January 27, 2023

  12. 102

Episode 100 - Dr. Drewmar / Joe Ronin

We are back at last! It turns out our long hiatus was at least partially for legitimate reasons. But a little time off has left us fresher than ever. Nath and Drew are here to recap the last couple of months and cover topics as wide-ranging as 90s Miami booty bass, Drew’s new haircut, Nelly’s inspirations for songs, the #1 hood bunny, Pan-Africanism, job interviews, Shaun King’s latest venture, and a whole lot more. Thanks for waiting.Original airdate January 20, 2023

    Episode 99 - Happy Annislursary

We are finally back and one away from a hundred! This long-overdue episode took even longer to edit together, because I tried recording my part on my new laptop and I had brutal problems with my audio clipping. You’ll hear what I mean. Just appreciate the effort it took to put this episode together and make it listenable, and hopefully I’ve learned a valuable lesson about not trying to record quickly again. The episode is a little short because Drew had to go to work. But we cover a number of worthy topics this episode, including updates on our employment and places of work, our birthdays and anniversaries, new frontiers in bad parenting, other items in the news, and the best of gun range reviews. Stay tuned for our upcoming 100th episode; we’re going to do our best to do something special there.

  14. 100

    Episode 98 - Jenkem Match

Welcome to another rare on-time episode. It’s our last one before Nath starts his new job, which (probably) means an even more intermittent recording schedule. In the meantime, enjoy some more of our song parodies, stuff Drew found on the internet, good and bad drugs, and counting fat stacks. Justin even contributes to this episode, by which I mean we read jokes he sent us over the past couple of months. Writing a longer description would mean listening to the episode, and I would rather get this out as soon as possible. Also, go celebrate Drew’s birthday with him on Monday if you’re in Houston.Original airdate September 23, 2022

  15. 99

Episode 97 - People Who Died

We’re finally back after eventful times both for us and the world. Lots of recent notable deaths, from Queen Elizabeth to Jean-Luc Godard to Ken Starr to Mikhail Gorbachev. And, sadly, one of Houston comedy’s own, Scotty Peterson, gone far too soon. We were going to use some of this episode as a tribute to him, but that quickly derailed into a bit about ranking Houston comics by how much the community would mourn them if they died. We’ll try again next week, hopefully with some guests who will have more great Scotty stories.Other topics covered include job interviews, strange encounters with the KKK, Rights and Society, Jerry Springer, The Kids in the Hall, and one poster’s ranking of the world’s religions. And, yes, the Jim Carroll Band song comes up.Original airdate September 16, 2022

  16. 98

    Episode 96 - Naan Binary

We’re back at last! Nath and Drew cover a lot here: Ivana Trump, Buc-ee’s, the show Party Down, bakeries and who they hire and archaic medical terms, what one of our friends might look like if he had colon cancer, a fascinating story of an open micer’s filmed set, and more. Just check it out: We’re glad to be back and we hope you're glad we're back too.Original airdate August 29, 2022

  17. 97

Episode 95 - The Godfather Part II: The Wrath of Caan

Nath and Drew overcome various obstacles to bring you yet another fun episode! Among our topics: The films of Darren Aronofsky, the antics of Nancy Pelosi, the recent rash of “Italian mafioso actor” deaths, the Absolute Poker POTRIPPER scandal, Drew’s problems with chairs, and the best combination of pills to recover from dental work.Nath managed to get through the episode despite having a root canal in the morning, so send him love and/or money to show your appreciation. And because he had a losing session of poker that day.Original airdate August 5, 2022

  18. 96

    Episode 94 - Pee Jay’s

We recorded this one while the World Series of Poker was going; Nath decided watching that was too important to pass up, if you were wondering why he interrupts, no-sells, or otherwise acts distracted during so many good bits this episode. But at least you can enjoy the sporadic commentary on the action. There’s actual comedy too, with talk about Jerry Lee Lewis, the Uvalde police department, someone called “Clock Lady,” the Drowning Lottery, the British, boy bands, robbing the Kwik-E-Mart, and the story that gives the episode its title-- plus a possibly even stranger story to follow it. Then we spend some time reading the funniest deleted tweets.I guess for the first minute Drew was only inaudible on our call and not his own recording. Also, I am a good editor, and Drew’s opinions about Malcolm X are entirely his own and do not represent the views of the other hosts.Original airdate July 22, 2022

  19. 95

    Episode 93 - Dwide D. Inmyasshole

Topics covered this episode: The New York Mets and John Rocker, Richard Nixon and movies about him, America's fabulous queen generals, hot sandwiches and Subway, poker, and more. Justin shows up to make an appearance, and we get a little window into the Shower Boys' personal lives and drink recipes.Original airdate July 15, 2022

  20. 94

Episode 92 - Wedding Crashers 2: Still Crashin’ After All These Years

We never let being tired and having no ideas stop us from recording. We talk about an older age of the internet and its viral videos; favorite TV comedy from the 1990s, today; some comedy we’re writing; comedy films of the 21st century; stories from driver’s ed; other podcasts; and more, including our usual puns and songs. Also, further making fun of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. And you might even get a wedding story this time, at last.Original airdate July 8, 2022

  21. 93

Episode 91 - Sean Paul John Wall

We’re back! Nath and Drew cover a whole lot this episode. Sean Paul, Sean John, Paul John, Paul Wall, John Wall: This episode has it all! (in the title.) Other topics include Top Gun; answering reader email; taking on those clowns in Congress, dogs in Washington, and garbage on Wall Street; and taking on the conspiracies of Big Wet. Also, further making fun of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. And you might even get a wedding story this time, at last.Original airdate July 1, 2022

  22. 92

    Episode 90 - N-Doors in Paris

Why did we call it that? Because this episode features a lot of music riffs as well as an extended intellectual discussion on the topic, “What is ‘indoors’?”Plus, Nath went to a wedding while he was out of town, and if you know whose it was and who they are, you know there’s going to be some great stories from that! We decided to save them until late in the episode to make sure you listen to the whole thing. There’s plenty of funny stuff to keep you occupied until then, though. Episode 89 - Flamin’ Hot Cheerios

We return to the work of Chuck Berry this episode, as well as the work of Austin Powers, because we are committed to nothing if not timely, relevant, modern comedy. In that vein, we also bring you an extended visit to Orson Welles’ commercial work. Also this episode: why we have trouble sleeping, Drew’s poor food safety practices, how much fucking we’re doing, general trash talking about Politics and Online, and more. Nath is stressing over whether his suit will arrive in time for his trip. This episode features frequent use of what Drew called Simon and Garfunkel’s “Out of Touch” although he insisted he said Hall and Oates. You be the judge. There may have been some confusion between Brian and Jeffrey Epstein this episode.Original airdate June 10, 2022

  24. 90

    Episode 88 - Morris E. Smith

Is an imagined mashup of The Smiths and The Fall too obscure for an episode title? As if we would let that stop us. Nath and Drew are with you this week, offering among other things more characters with middle initials-- Johnny B. Goode, Morris E. Smith, Susan B. Anthony, Women B. Shopping-- thoughts on TV characters ranging from Titannica to Coach McGuirk, our non-opinions on Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, the latest from Goop, new frontiers in space exploration, and, of course, more singing.Keep your eyes peeled for a potential live show announcement in Austin coming soon.Original airdate June 3, 2022

Episode 87 - Hipster Femboy Solo Session

Nath here with a rare first-person post. I've been unable to track the guys down for the last couple of weeks, and we haven't put out an episode in almost three weeks. On top of that, I'm going on vacation soon. We were running the risk of six full weeks with no Community Shower. I couldn't let that happen, so I decided, sometimes if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. It's our first-ever solo episode, where you can listen to me tell jokes I thought up recently and also run out of prepared material in about ten minutes. There's plenty to talk about, though, from deaths in the news, to making fun of usual suspects like Jordan Peterson and Rod Dreher, to Nick "sex with women is gay" Fuentes and his tastes in porn, to highlighting some of my favorite comedic content from both our podcast and elsewhere, both classic and new. And while I'm not actually a femboy, I do take a bit of time to discuss how often I've been mistaken for gay or lesbian. Our YouTube channel is up and will have more and more clips and highlights added to it as I have time:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdioQ8iR0mtUzBeiNe0ML2QOriginal airdate May 27, 2022

Episode 86 - Race of Base Opening for Creamence Queerwater Reguyval

As you can tell from this title, we get back to doing what we do best: Song parodies for the 12-year-old in you! We get a lot of laughs from that this episode, but other topics covered include but are not limited to: Cinco de Mayo, fast food and military commercials (and our suggestions for better ideas), past tragedies in Texas (or tragicomedies, depending on your perspective), and trying to get our friend Bob laid. Glengarry Glen Ross also gets that unique Community Shower treatment this episode. All three of the original Shower Boys on mic for this one.Original airdate May 9, 2022

Episode 85 - Drunk, Drive an’ Jail

We are finally back! We had a lot of fun making this episode, which usually means it’s very funny. Topics covered include caloric bands, young adult literature recommendations, riffs on classic songs from decades past, recent additions to our wardrobe, a particular long-standing celebrity crush, European sexual mores, the classic games of skill and chance, and a certain other three-idiots comedy podcast and their recent comments. That’s far from all, though: Justin also makes his return appearance at some point, so find out what he’s been up to. We also get a brief surprise guest appearance from Andrew Clarkson. Episode 84 - We’re All Gonna Die Listening to ”I Was Dancing in the Lesbian Bar” by Jonathan Richman

Nath and Drew on the 1s and 2s (not really, since we don’t DJ) this episode-- Nath is trying to get paid, in between the poker sites crashing and trying to sell the collectibles from his last job on eBay. We also talk about some of our favorite comedy sketches, dealing with family, dealing with life, an upcoming trip to Austin, our history with comic book characters, Nath’s adventures at what was either “lesbian karaoke night at the cocktail bar” or “karaoke night at the lesbian cocktail bar,” and also how the world is completely fucked and going to kill us all and nobody with the power to do anything about it is doing anything about it. That’s comedy, folks!Special shout-out to Joey at KTRU for providing some background music during the recording of this episode. Also shout-out to Houston comedy’s elder statesman, the legend Andy Huggins, and to Slade Ham who’s putting together a Kickstarter to fund a long-overdue standup special for the man. Episode 83 - Nightmare on Elm Street 69: Freddy Got Fingered (with Sid Oozeley)

We go off the beaten path this week, pulling a guest not from Houston comedy but from the far reaches of the Internet. Will we regret our decision? The only way to find out is to listen.Sid Oozeley, self-described "science-fantasy writer, space pirate, & thunder thigh enthusiast,” joins us this week. We kick off talking about our lo-fi music bot, then cover topics ranging from the news of the day and other comedian behavior, to times of antiquity, to Paper Moon, to healing crystals and mall ninjas, to prog rock, to our never-made versions of Seinfeld and The Simpsons. Nath also practices some of his youth pastor material.Sid’s patreon: patreon.com/thighencefictionOriginal airdate April 1, 2022

Episode 82 - It’s Not the Size of the Ship, It’s the Motion of Frank Ocean with Seth Bullock

Sorry to be late editing, I’ve been playing a lot of live poker the last couple of weeks and haven’t had much free time. And editing this one took a while. We’re continuing our conversation with Seth Bullock, covering, among other topics, Michael Jackson and Katt Williams, the end of Arthur, new kinds of racism, black entertainment television (not to be confused with Black Entertainment Television), men and their feelings, and some stuff about comedy: How we all met, some of our earliest or favorite jokes, punchlines we’ve written for other people or other people have written for us, our process, and so on.We’ve still got another part to the Seth episode to come, so stay tuned for that.Original airing March 11, 2022

    Episode 81 - S-S-S-Sleepy Elton John

Taking an intermission episode before releasing part 3 of the Seth conversation. Justin got us fired up to record on Monday and said he would have a guest, so Nath and Drew decided to pull it together to show up today… and then Justin disappeared five minutes before the recording started. So instead, you got the two sleepy boys giving it their best on topics as wide-ranging as where Justin might be, barbecue sauce, The Home Gunsmith, Bill Burr on NPR, and the history of gambling. Featuring incessant use of “Bennie and the Jets.” We also legally disavow anything we said about politics this episode.Original airdate March 18, 2022

For all you non-paying listeners, you’re going to get it in parts. (patreon dot com slash community shower)In part 1, we mostly tell stories about doing comedy in Houston (which in Seth’s case involves getting into fights and in Drew’s case involves gay sex), plus some talk about favorite athletes of our childhood and their involvement in video games and strip clubs. Episode 78 - Two in the Plinko, One in the Stinko with Dan Hornstein

We bring Dan Hornstein back as a guest to talk about many topics, including our favorite movies starring comedians, our favorite Price Is Right games, our favorite Jewish rappers and country singers, and also some things that are actually real and not just excuses for puns. We revisit Nikka whiskey and look into comic strip characters Dan looks like. Nath finally tells the Blockbuster story. Episode 77 - Pussy Beeper with Jesse James

Guest mic in the house! We bring Jesse James back for his third visit to talk to Nath and Drew. Topics covered include stuff we shouldn’t have watched when we were kids, comedy that uses words you can’t say anymore and other words you can say instead, past bits that Jesse missed, our favorite street jokes, and the inverse relationship between weightlifting and cocaine. And we’re a podcast of comedians who say stupid shit, so of course we touched on The Joe Rogan Controversy. But we’ve got such good riffs and banter this episode that the topic doesn’t really matter.Original airdate February 11, 2022

  36. 78

Episode 76 - Christmas with Pitbull (Everybody Should Shut the Fuck Up)

I didn’t take any notes while we were recording but I remember talking about sports betting and Pitbull and Rick Moranis and standup stories and why we hate hippies and why we hate Joss Whedon and of course there are more songs. Justin makes a fuckload of noise because he spends most of the episode eating and drinking and playing video games.Original airdate January 28, 2022

    Episode 75 - Jeremy-Lin Spears

Welcome to 2022! The Shower Boys are back in full effect, and we cover a lot of topics this episode: G.G. Allin; It’s Britney Bitch; Dan Schneider; Drake’s hands-on approach to Euphoria and Millie Bobby Brown; whether Bruce Willis and Joe Biden pop that pussy; plus much more that I don’t remember. I have “zoologist homophobe” written in my episode notes, whatever that means. Drew and I do some of our best harmonizing yet this episode. We recorded this one on Betty White’s 100th birthday, which I imagine went off splendidly and with no problems.Original airing January 21, 2022

Episode 71 - Balding Gay: Swimming to Camboy-dia

We were close to having an episode that would just be Nath monologuing-- hence the title-- but then Justin showed up, thankfully. We talk about jokes Nath wrote, a sketch Nath wrote, John Madden, bedbugs, booze, the future of the podcast in Colorado, things of that nature. Stick around for a great hot buttered rum recipe. This one is short because we really ran out of gas. But we’ve given you so many episodes longer than an hour, we’re hoping you’ll forgive that this time. Once we determine Drew’s whereabouts, we’ll come back with a full episode. If you have any tips that would help us locate him, send them to communityshowerpodcast at gmail dot com.Original airdate December 10, 2021

Episode 70 - Louis J. Slomez and the Lethal Dose of Skanks

We follow up on Drew's Skankfest experience; discuss goth vampires on the internet, Linkin Park, and The Kids in the Hall; and talk about when keeping nuclear physics real goes wrong. Plus some fresh new songs. I bet there's a lot more good stuff in this one but I didn't listen to it so let's discover the surprise together.Original airdate November 19, 2021

  43. 71

Episode 69 - John the Baptist Jingleheimer Schmidt

Nath couldn’t take the day off from work, so he’s working while he’s recording. (“Working” in this case is playing poker tournaments.) So at least this time he has a good reason for drifting off at points during the podcast.Listen as we personally insult the listeners and discuss stuff that’s happened the last two weeks. Big weekend in Houston with the Travis Scott satanic ritual and Skankfest happening at the same time! We talk about 70s and 80s music for some reason, Justin’s allergy to laughter, religious wars and Bible stories, which types of gambling are cool, NFT Ape Theft, and more. You won’t want to miss Drew’s in-person reporting from Skankfest.Original airdate November 12, 2021

Episode 68 - No One Wants To Be The Cum Bouncer

The whole power trio is here for this one. Episode 66 - Apocalypse Update with Norm Macdonald

Imagine a post-apocalyptic world where America has fractured into a number of techno-feudal nation-states… and Saturday Night Live is still on the air. We did. Also featured this episode: Other SNL talk, poorly conceived Fortnite promotions, ripping off other podcasts, AA and church, Tiger Woods, how to make friends in this crazy world, and a couple of goofy technical problems at the beginning, middle, and end. We also bring back Slumdog MILF in Here, because that was one of our favorite bits and the sound on that episode sucked.Just Nath and Justin this episode; Drew never checked in, hopefully not because he’s suffering from some new and horrendous medical ailment. I could have edited out the technical difficulties, but then you wouldn’t get the intimate, behind-the-scenes look at the show you’ve come to love us for.I don’t think we have permission to use the material of James Austin Johnson or Saturday Night Live. Hopefully they don’t notice since we’re nobody and our listenership is so small (but dedicated, yes you are).Original airdate October 15, 2021

Episode 65 - The Big News From Today

We recorded this on Monday afternoon, and we talk about the big news from today! YOU know what we're talking about! We all went through it! You know what's going to happen here! Can we make it funny for an hour and 13 minutes? Well, we always have our usual array of personal stories and other material on hand, so you know we can! Just Nath and Drew today, because we spontaneously recorded while we weren't working and Justin was.Original airdate October 8, 2021

Episode 64 - The Worst Part Is The Hypocrisy

The second half of our doubleheader puts Nath and Justin together to review sitcoms and remember Norm Macdonald. Plus we throw it back to 2012 to talk about Kony 2012 and bath salts, plus international warfare and drug policy. Also learn about our newest sponsor!Original airdate October 1, 2021

Episode 63 - Greatest Shits and Survival Tips

Despite the fact that this podcast is tagged as 18+/NSFW, Podbean will still delete a cuss word in the title, so I had to censor it.We did a funky doubleheader -- half Nath and Drew, half Nath and Justin. Late nights full of disaster is our theme this episode. Whether it’s Drew’s misadventures with coffee or our many misadventures with drinking, shitting and vomiting (sometimes together, sometimes not), it’s an hour of storytime about some of the worst things that have happened to us. Plus, reports from gambling, Latin class, and jury duty. Probably shouldn’t have said some of the things I did on this episode, but, too late now, it’s out there!Pictured: Drew getting in trouble with yet another Bills Mafia Facebook groupOriginal airdate September 24, 2021

Episode 62 - Hey Remember MadTV

An impromptu late-night recording leads to this very high-energy episode. You get more of what you love from Community Shower-- song parodies, behind-the-scenes looks at the creation of the show-- plus the return of the Cajun Scientist and Gay Diarrhea. Also included: love stories; Bennifer; bisexuality; the future of the trucking industry; the titular remembrance. If you can figure out why Justin is clicking incessantly on the recording, write in and tell us.The second half of this episode turned into our greatest episode of all time. So great, we only made it available to Patreon subscribers. Become a patron if you haven't already. https://www.patreon.com/communityshowerOriginal airdate September 17, 2021

ABOUT THIS SHOW

Nath, Drew, and sometimes Justin started this podcast because they were bored during COVID. They mostly say dumb bullshit to make each other laugh. 2020-2023.
