Challenging Common Spiritual Lies that Rob Our Intimacy with God with Gary Thomas
Send us Fan MailI don't know about you but I struggle with lies and the battle in my mind a lot. There are times when the enemy is so sneaky that I don't even recognize the lie... have you been there too? This week we are breaking up and ending our unhealthy relationship with lies and we are dismantling them once and for all. That is where our wonderful guest Gary Thomas steps in. You may have heard of him but have you heard of his newest book? It's all about dismantling lies that Christians specifically believe. He broke down a few with me during the episode and it was pure gold!!! (more on this in the weekly newsletter! Sign up below!) Gary Thomas is a bestselling author and international speaker whose ministry strives to bring people closer to Christ and closer to others. He has sold over 2 million copies of his books, translated into over a dozen languages, and won many awards, helping establish him as a thought leader in spiritual formation, marriage and parenting. Gary served on the teaching team at Second Baptist Church in Houston for 11 years and is currently teaching at Cherry Hills Community Church in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. His ministry has led him to speaking events in all 50 states and in nine different countries, including numerous television and radio programs. wisdom doesn't happen on accident, it's something that has to be pursued. When we dismantle the lies, we can keep our eyes on Jesus more easily. This isn't easy and it's going to cause us to truly look at what we believe and what is truth but my goodness is it going to bless us and deepen our relationship with Christ in a way nothing else can! I hope you'll take on the challenge and go through Gary's book with an open heart and willing mind. This could be the shift in your life you've been waiting for. Conversation Highlights:Spiritual lies can be passed down and believed without us questioning themMany Christians are spiritually reborn but not mentally transformedDismantling lies requires rejecting cultural values and actively pursuing biblical wisdom which Scripture values more than gold or silverWe can be addicted to comfort but God uses discomfort to build character and prepare us for ministryConnect with Gary!Gary's WebsiteGary on IGGet the Book!Gary on SubstackGet the newsletter HERE!Support the showWant to go deeper into the conversation? Faithfulness in the Unknown: Trusting God’s Plan & Embracing a Mindset of Adventure with Renee Helmkamp
Send us Fan MailMaybe you've heard this episode before and maybe you haven't but either way we need a reminder that we can trust God's faithfulness even in the unseen and unknown things of our life. This is a rerelease of an episode from season 5 of the podcast. It's the most listened to episode in the history of the podcast so I think it's one worth sharing again. Renee Helmkamp is a mom, grandma, faithful follower of Jesus and so many other things. She may wear a lot of hats but in each area she humbly follow the Lord. It's not always easy but it is always worth it. The plan is to have her back on the podcast at some point and get an update on the things she shared, but for now we are going to listen back to where God had her a few years ago. He has continued to take her on new adventures but sometimes hearing about the old ones encourages our souls in fresh ways!We talk about releasing our days into God's hand and how it can lead to the adventure of a lifetime. Enjoy the journey that God has you on, and cling to him all along the way. He is faithful! Why the Resurrection Should Change How We Live Our Everyday Lives: Special Solo Episode
Send us Fan MailI know... I'm just as surprised as you are about this week's episode. A solo episode... what?? Those don't happen very often so when they do, I stop and pause extra long to hear what God has for them. This time the Holy Spirit led me down a path that I never recognized before that makes total sense now! If you have Jesus as your personal savior and you accepted the free gift of salvation then you know that the resurrection changed your life. Looking at the cross and seeing it empty alongside an empty tomb makes a massive impact in your life. But the question God asked me to pose is what we do with that information after our initial salvation. What difference does the resurrection make in our lives beyond the point of accepting Jesus as our personal savior? Should it change how we live daily? The answer is yes but a lot of us don't know what that looks like practically. How does the resurrection change our daily life? That's what is discussed this week on the podcast. A solo episode that dives into this topic that will hopefully help you approach Easter Sunday differently this year. Conversation Highlights:If Jesus would have been a regular person his death and resurrection wouldn’t have meant anything to us, becasue He is God it means our sins are forgivenWe have to start living like the resurrection changes things in our lifeYou don’t have to prove your worth to anyone because you belong to GodBecause Jesus lives we are free, we belong, we are made new and we have hope that can not die!Connect with Kala!Kala's WebsiteOnline Courses to Embrace God Kala on IGSupport the showWant to go deeper into the conversation? Authentically Living for Jesus Christ with Linda Hagar
Send us Fan MailLast week was all about motherhood and how sometimes it can be tough. Keeping our eyes on Jesus and seeing ourselves like he sees us makes all the difference. If you missed that episode, make sure you go back and listen to it! This week is a follow up episode that I'm excited to share with you! I met Linda through a friend and she agreed to sit down and share authentically her experience in following Jesus. It's not always perfect and we can always improve but the truth is, there is grace for us! Being Holy Spirit led, aka, letting God be in control of your life is not for the casual Christian. It's for those who want more of God, want to be made into his image and want to impact the world around them for the Kingdom. It was such a joy to talk with Linda about what it looks like to follow God and how to let the Holy Spirit guide us. Key Takeaways: There is always grace for us, we can't expect to be perfect in our walk with the LordWe can't be so busy that we don't have time for God B.U.S.Y. = Being Under Satan's YokeWe need to listen to God more than we list things off to himBeing led by the Holy Spirit doesn't happen over night, we need to continually surrender to him and let him leadGet the weekly email! https://kaladiane.comSupport the showWant to go deeper into the conversation? You are Never Too Far Gone: The Hope of Redemption in Christ Jesus with Bruce Kane
Send us Fan MailHave you ever felt like you may have been a little too reckless or gone a little too far for God to forgive you? Today we are here to tell you that that's just not true! There is nothing you can do to make God stop loving you. He will continue to pursue you even in your sin. My guest today is a new friend whom I go to church with! He actually reached out to share his testimony on our church's podcast and after having the conversation with him I knew I had to see if he'd allow me to share it with all of you. I'm so thankful he said yes! Bruce Kane has had a life on both sides of the tracks. He's lived in sin, getting involved with drugs and becoming an alcoholic but he has also experienced the redeeming power and love of Jesus Christ! He's not proud of what he did but he is grateful that he can pass on this story of hope to others. His testimony is powerful and reminds all of us that we are never too far out of reach for God. This is the type of testimony that gets me all fired up! Why? Because even though it is Bruce's story, it points to the mighty work of Jesus in his life and directs others to the savior! These are the stories we need to be sharing with others to encourage them in the Lord! Key Takeaways: You are never too far gone that God can't rescue youGod is willing to forgive us but we need to be willing to cry out to himThe love of God is stronger than anything elseSharing the good news of what God has done in our lives is an honor and it can't be kept insideGet the EMBRACING THE WORD ONLINE COURSE here!Support the showWant to go deeper into the conversation? When Faith Meets Questions: How to Defend What You Believe with Confidence with Liz Cobo
Send us Fan MailPart of the reason we need to be in scripture so much is because sooner or later we are going to be faced with questions. Questions about why you believe what you believe, evidence for what you believe, etc. That sounds terrifying to most of us, right? We'd rather hide under a rock than have to defend what we believe. Why is that? If I had to take a guess, it's because we ourselves aren't even sure of the true reasons. We know we love God, we believe the Bible and trust that its words are true but how do we explain that to someone who doesn't think like us? That is exactly why I invested my good friend Liz back onto the podcast. She has been on multiple times before but in light of the world we are living in, with a revival in our sights, we need to be more equipped for these sorts of conversations. Liz is my go-to for these sorts of things and her wisdom and insight are a true gift! Liz Cobo is a Christian Apologist, writer, and speaker. Her ministry is focused on helping women learn to gracefully defend the Christian faith and biblical worldview. She hosts the unBibled podcast. Liz is working on a Master of Arts degree in Christian Apologetics at the Talbot School of Theology, Biola University.Key Takeaways: Apologetics involves gracefully defending the Christian faith with evidence and reason, not just blind beliefDeveloping good listening and questioning skills is crucial for having productive conversations about faithRegular Bible study and building biblical knowledge is foundational for engaging in apologeticsThere are many resources available to learn apologetics, from books to online courses to communitiesAims to remove "roadblocks to the cross" and address objections to ChristianityConnect with LizCourses & More!Liz Cobo on IGPrevious Episode with Liz Another episode to listen to! When Anxiety Strikes: How a Verse a Day Transforms the Anxious Heart with Becky Keife
Send us Fan MailAnxious thoughts can be a constant in our lives and sometimes they seem like they will never quiet down. What do we do when they seem to swirl around our mind constantly? If we believe in Jesus Christ as our savior there is actually a lot we can do about it! First, we remind them of the truths we know from scripture. Second step can look different for all of us but it can include physical activity, breathing exercises and medication. (In the episode we give lots of info!) That is why I invited Becky onto the podcast this week. She is releasing a book that is going to help transform how we take on the anxiety we struggle with. Becky Keife is the author of A Verse A Day For The Anxious Soul and a Bible teacher, speaker, and author passionate about helping people hear God’s voice, embrace their true identity, and step into their purpose. A dedicated mental health advocate, Becky equips individuals and churches to understand anxiety biblically and experience Jesus wholly. She loves long naps, puffy clouds, and shady trails. Becky lives in Southern California with her husband and three always-hungry teenage sons. Key Takeaways: God invites us to be honest with HimAnxiety doesn’t disqualify you from being a good Christian OR from the goodness of GodAnxiety can be the conduit to intimacy with ChristPut rhythms of peace & calm in place before you need themThere is always hope and light because of JesusGod wants to meet us in the midst of our struggles, there is no need to “get right” before coming to HimConnect with BeckyGet the book! Spiritual Warfare 101: How to Stand Strong in Christ’s Authority with Miranda Fields
Send us Fan MailThe topic of spiritual warfare is not one you will hear preached on or talked about often. Why, because it makes people uncomfortable. We tend to avoid things that we don't fully understand and when it comes to talking about things we can't see with our eyes it adds another layer of uncertainty. This is the reason I wanted to have a conversation about it on the podcast. We are approaching the darkest holiday of the year later this week, halloween, and we as Bible believing Christ followers need to be aware of what is actually happening in the spiritual world. We do not fight against flesh and blood but against the things in this dark world that are unseen. We must choose to step out of ignorance (that could be from many different things) and into the knowledge that Christ so freely gives us in His Word. I'm so thankful that my friend Miranda Fields agreed to have this conversation with me. Her and I both desperately want other believers to see what they are truly up against. To stand in the authority that they have in Christ and stand firm! This isn't a game folks, this is real and this is in our faces more today than ever before. We must start talking about it and being open to the Holy Spirit's leading in our lives. Key Takeaways: We must acknowledge and be aware of what is happening in the Spiritual realmRelationship with Jesus is how we discern what is happening in our lives and around usGod wants us to be able to live in freedom and not be held down by bondage, choosing to remain ignorant in this area is doing a disservice to ourselvesAsk the Lord to open your eyes, reveal things to you and see through His eyesWe overcomplicate everything in our Spiritual life, keep it simpleSupport the showWant to go deeper into the conversation? Send us Fan MailRest. It feels like a luxury most days doesn't it? Something that is fleeting and nonexistent in some of our lives. But what if rest wasn't just something we did, but a way in which we lived? I'm not talking about a laziness or disinterest in doing the things God has called us to. Uncovering Truth: How Biblical Archaeology Brings Scripture to Life with Amanda Hope Haley
Send us Fan MailWhen I heard about Amanda's book about archeology and the Bible I HAD to talk to her! Have you ever thought about the fact that how we view the Bible and its stories might now accurately line up with what actually happened in that time period? Well, that's where Amanda comes in! She has a passion to help us see scripture as it actually was. What the landscape looked like, how the people lived and how things were actually laid out thousands of years ago. She does this through archeology! The rock nerd inside of me jumped for joy when I realized that we can use archeology to help us better understand the Bible! Amanda Hope Haley is a lover of the Bible - God, words, people, and history. Writing and speaking as the Red-Haired Archaeologist®, she teaches how artifacts contextualize Scripture. She hopes to see Bible lovers work together to learn history, interpret Scripture, and apply God’s Word to their lives. Amanda earned an MTS in Hebrew Scripture and Interpretation from Harvard University. She contributed to The Voice Bible as a translator, writer, and editor, and she has been a collaborator for popular Christian authors. She and her husband live in Tennessee. Please hear me out, this information is not supposed to make you question your faith, but instead get curious about what you've been taught. To think critically and use newly discovered information to help you understand scripture. This will strengthen your faith, not destroy it! This is exciting! Key Takeaways: We need to encounter the text of the Bible with curiosity and an openness that maybe the felt boards of our youth weren’t as accurate as we thoughtWe need to ask, “What am I reading into scripture?” aka “What am I adding that isn’t accurate?”Never question the scripture itself, but ask questions about what you’ve been taught about scriptureGod is not afraid of your questions, He loves our curiosity!Traditions can pass down inaccurate ideas of the BibleConnect with Amanda Hope HaleyGet the book! Intentional Living: Slowing Down to See God with Angela Correll
Send us Fan MailThere is just something about looking at pictures of Tuscany that makes your heart long to slow down and feel the tuscan sun on your face? Is that just me or are you dreaming of walking through a village in Italy too??Angela Correll is the author of Village Life: Discover Tuscan Inspired Hospitality and Intentional Living which released YESTERDAY!!. She is also author of Restored in Tuscany, released March 2024, along with Grounded, Guarded and Granted, a trilogy of novels that became Amazon bestsellers and have been adapted to the stage for sold-out audiences at the Pioneer Playhouse, Kentucky’s oldest outdoor theater. Grounded has been adapted for film and releases in September of 2025 on Great American Family network and Great American Pureflix. In the conversation we talk a lot about lingering and I have to say, it's something that we can all learn to incorporate into our daily lives. Can I be so bold to say... we NEED to incorporate. Life is so busy, something is always pulling for our attention the problem is, we don't know what slowing down even looks like. That's where taking some time and studying the habits of a slower paced life, like in this stunning book, helps us make the shift from missing out on small moments to being present and soaking it all in. Key Takeaways: When we linger we leave room to experience the presence of GodLingering in a conversation allows for more depth and connection, lingering in rest is where God speaks to us and restores our soulIn Italy, a meal is “the thing” they are doing, not just something to get out of the way before doing “the thing”, this mindset shift helps usher in peaceCreate space in your life where you can linger with the LordConnect with AngelaGet the book! Anxiety Doesn’t Get the Last Word: How God Works Through Our Worry with Blair Linne
Send us Fan MailAnxiety has a way of impacting us in ways that are not just mental but also emotional and physical. It can wake us up in the middle of the night and cause our heart to race when our thoughts aren't anxious. Why does it do that and what does that mean for those of us who belong to Christ? Are we not trusting him enough? Is there something more we need to do? These are some of the questions Blair asked when anxiety began to invade her every day life. But the way Blair explains how anxiety was actually the best thing to happen to her faith, it made me realize all that God does in the midst of our trials! That instead of looking at anxiety as the thing that caused all the problems, we can view it from the perspective that even in the midst of it all, it's our invitation to draw nearer to the Lord.Let me tell you a little about our guest. Blair Linne is the author of Finding My Father & Made to Tremble. She is a Bible teacher, actress, spoken word artist, and the creator of the podcast GLO with The Gospel Coalition. Blair has toured globally and is known as one of the originators of the Christian Spoken Word genre. Proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ through speaking and spoken word is her passion. She and her husband, Shai, live in Portland, Oregon, with their three children.Key Takeaways: No matter how much you love God, there will be potential moments where you may be afraid & anxiousOften when we focus on “do not be afraid” we miss out on what follows it, “for I am with you”. which is the very reason we don’t have to fearOur hope can’t be in ourselves or our ability to cope, our hope must be firmly planted in ChristOur anxiety gives us the opportunity to rely upon God and ask Him for what we do not have that only He can provideConnect with Blair!Preorder the book!Made To Tremble WebsiteBlair on IGJOIN US AT THE EMBRACE RETREAT SEPT 13TH!!! Building Hope Through Community When Life Goes Solo with Elizabeth Cole
Send us Fan MailI'm ashamed to say that I haven't taken a lot of prayer time to consider those in my life and community who are single parents. It's not something I've personally experienced so it doesn't come to my mind that often. But after this conversation with Elizabeth from Solo Parent, it's going to be a part of my daily prayer & call to action. Elizabeth Cole is the Vice President of Solo Parent and the owner of Storytold PR, a public relations firm based in Nashville, TN. Her journey with Solo Parent began in 2018, following her divorce and transition into single parenthood with her son, Jax. In the aftermath of her divorce, Elizabeth found herself feeling alone, scared, and unsure of how to navigate this new chapter. Seeking support, she joined a Solo Parent group at her local church, not knowing what to expect or a single person in the room. But from the moment she walked in, she was met with the profound love, kindness, and encouragement she desperately needed. That safe space became a pivotal part of her healing journey, allowing her to walk alongside others who truly understood her struggles. Years later, Elizabeth has combined her personal experience with her expertise in public relations, becoming one of Solo Parent’s most passionate advocates. Having witnessed firsthand the life-changing impact of the organization, she is deeply committed to investing in the lives of other single parents. In addition to her leadership role, she has spent the last six years facilitating support groups, offering guidance, and helping others find the same hope and healing she once sought. Elizabeth lives in Franklin, TN, and is the proud single mom of her 12-year-old son, Jax.Key Takeaways: Community is the gift none of us realize we needHaving a place to go where others understand the experience you’re going through makes all the difference in being able to show up and be present with your kidsThere are numerous ways anyone can come alongside a single parent, and they are all simple! (see the weekly email for the practical ways mentioned during the episode)Few single parents realize there are resources and a community available to them, share this info with them!Connect with Elizabeth and Solo Parent!Solo Parent Website Solo Parent PodcastSolo Parent on IGJoin us at the Embrace One-Day Women's Retreat! Experiencing Freedom in Worship: Step Out Of Fear and Into Freedom with Emily Esh
Send us Fan MailToday we are talking about a subject that is so near and dear to my heart because it has transformed my life. It's WORSHIP!! A lot of people go through life not knowing what they are missing out on when it comes to a Biblical style of worship. Today's conversation is all about experiencing the freedom of worship and stepping out of fear and into freedom! One of my favorite people joined me for this conversation because her heart is right there with mine when it comes to longing to see everyone experience this type of connection to the Lord through worship. Her name is Emily Esh and she is the Worship Pastor at New Life Fellowship Church. She recently graduated from Bethel University where she studied worship arts and experienced the freedom of worship. Emily has a heart that longs to see people freely worship the Lord and experience the joy that it brings. She is married to Adrian who also works at NLF and is such a blessing to our youth! If you are curious about the kind of worship I'm describing and your interest has been peaked, then you have to listen to this episode. We aren't going to ask you to get up and dance around the sanctuary every Sunday (although if the Holy Spirit leads you to... then do it!!) but we are going to challenge you to step out from under the fear of what everyone else might think and walk into the freedom of worshipping the God of creation with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength. Key Takeaways: When we worship we: Remember, Return & Reconnect with GodBe vulnerable & authentic with the Lord during worshipThe fear of what other’s think keeps us from truly experiencing the freedom God longs for us to experience during worshipBiblical worship is anything but boringGive God room to speak while you read scripture & worshipJoin Emily and I at the Embrace Retreat to experience this freedom of worship PLUS be taught how to understand scripture! A Sacrifice of Joy: Saying Yes to Your Calling with Elisabeth Brown
Send us Fan MailAs people who love the Lord we want to desire what God desires, we want to walk faithfully in obedience with little to no doubt. But... that isn't normally the case. We are human. We doubt, worry and wrestle with the calling God gives us at times. Maybe it doesn't feel as if it lines up with what we enjoy most or it seems like way too big of a challenge. But we as Christ followers know we can trust our unknown to our known God. Normally that's easier said than done though. That's why I love today's conversation so much! My new friend Elisabeth Brown shares how God led her to write a children's book during a season of transitions in her life that she wasn't necessarily planning on. She felt unsure how God would provide or fulfill the desires of her heart. Her authentic testimony of a sacrifice of joy in the unknown of life will inspire you to trust the Lord even when things don't make sense or add up. You can say yes to the call God has on your life right now, even when you feel unsure of how it will turn out.Key Takeaways: The Lord asks us to decide if we will trust Him with both big and small things, our response makes a great deal of differenceWhen we obey God’s call on our lives He is faithful to show up and provide in ways we can’t even dream upSurrendering our desires to God gives Him the opportunity to work through us in amazing waysMeeting our children where they are with stories will impact their understanding of the love of GodConnect with Elisabeth!Get the Book!Email Elisabeth @ [email protected] day women's retreat info HEREWeekend women's retreat info HERESupport the showWant to go deeper into the conversation? Send us Fan MailLooking for our worth in things of this world can seem like the built in human response in life. Finding ourselves in friends, careers, relationships & finances can seem like the right thing to do, but it leaves us empty and still not knowing who we are. It can even make us question our faith in God.Wouldn't living a life of unshakable faith be a wonderful feeling? Knowing with no doubt in your mind that you belong to God and He loves you unconditionally! That knowing can be your reality, the way you live your life. Send us Fan MailOverwhelm feels inescapable. Having a heart that isn't weighed down with the weight and responsibilities that are on our shoulders seems impossible. That is precisely why I talked with my new friend Kara about her newly released devotional, An Untroubled Heart: Calming Anxiety and Finding God's Peace. Her heart is for us experience God in a real and intimate way that changes how we live our everyday lives. She wants us to realized the trust of Psalms 147: 3-5, seeing God as the personal yet powerful God that he is. Our Father in heaven who cares about every big or little thing that happens in our lives and longs for us to run to him for peace. And that's exactly what we talk about on today's episode. Kara is a writer, wife, and new adoptive mom living in Los Angeles, California. Kara writes prayers and devotionals on her social media and has also written devotionals for Her True Worth, a women’s online ministry. Kara has her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Arizona State University and her master’s degree in counseling from Loyola University Chicago. After walking through a personal medical crisis and the loss of both of her parents to cancer, her life radically changed, and her complete dependency on God for strength and peace became a non-negotiable. Her hope is to encourage women in their faith, pointing them to their Great Comforter and Greatest Companion.Key Takeaways: We can be honest with God about our emotions because He is personal yet powerfulThere is so much freedom in being vulnerable with the LordContinually being in God’s word gives us peace and a strength that shifts our perspectiveWe must remain persistent in going to God in prayer, being in His word and being aware that we need to be with HimGod gives us the gift of peace that doesn’t make sense in our humanness, but is perfect in His powerConnect with Kara!Kara's WebsiteGet the BookConnect with Kara on IGConnect on FBListen to the Audiobook version!Need to get away and be taught how to connect with God? Embracing Celebration When Life Feels Heavy with Nicole Zasowski
Send us Fan MailJoy & celebration can feel like it's for other people but not for you, right? I get it, I've been there before and so has the guest on the podcast today. Nicole has actually been studying this very thing from a personal and Christian family therapist point of view for years and her insight is life changing.Nicole Zasowski is a licensed marriage and family therapist and the author of “What If It’s Wonderful?” and “From Lost to Found.” As an old soul who wears her heart proudly on her sleeve, she enjoys writing and speaking on topics that merge her professional knowledge, faith and personal experience. Nicole lives in Connecticut with her husband and their three young children.Daring Joy takes a fresh approach to studying six familiar women in the Bible—Eve, Sarah, Miriam, Mary the mother of Jesus, Elizabeth and Mary Magdalene—understanding their stories in relationship to the human experience and God’s heart for our joy. It helps us get real life examples of what joy looks like in our lives and what it doesn't look like. Here is a link to the conversation Nicole and I had last year on the podcast about her book What If It's Wonderful.Key Takeaways: We can be hesitant to embrace joy when we experience a lot of lossJoy is the most vulnerable emotion we experience because when you hold something with joy it is automatically accompanied by the possibility of lossIt can feel safer to not hold joy at all than to risk painWe can live a lifestyle of joy & celebration even when our circumstances don’t match up with thatSometimes when we are hesitant to celebrate, it’s because we’ve made it about ourselves and not GodConnect with Nicole!Nicole's WebsiteGet the BookTake the QuizInstagramWant to register for the fall Women's Retreats? Overcoming Self-Sabotage and Embracing Your True Potential with Mary Marantz
Send us Fan MailHave you ever felt underestimated before? When I stop to really think about that I can say, definitely yes I have... but it's mainly MYSELF that this type of judgement is coming. The saying "I'm my own worst critic" is a true statement in my life, maybe it has been in your own too. Whether it's others who are underestimating us or ourselves, it can do a number on our self-esteem and understanding our worth. My wonderful friend Mary Marantz is releasing a book NEXT WEEK on this very topic! She has personal experience with being underestimated just like us, only she is on the other side of some of these struggles and is offering us all of the strategies to overcome them! Mary is the girl who grew up in a single wide trailer in rural West Virginia, before making her way all the way to the hallowed halls of Yale Law School... only to end up still not feeling like enough. Like she wrote in her first book, Dirt, "What if success is where the real trouble began? What if we get everything we ever wanted, only to find out it still doesn't change a thing about not liking this skin we have to do life in?"She has spent the last five years figuring out how to separate her worth from her achieving. In other words, figuring out WHO she is apart from WHAT she does. She helps people like us own the muddy parts of our stories and give up achieving for our worth. She is the host of the wildly popular podcast, The Mary Marantz Show, has written multiple bestselling books and has been featured on CNN, Hallmark Home & Family and many more!Mary is one of those friends who is quirky and fun but can really dig deep and make you think long and hard on subjects that will transform your life. This book, Underestimated, is no different! How God Hears Us: The Powerful Presence of Women in the Resurrection Story with Elisa Morgan
Send us Fan MailHappy Holy Week! I pray that you've been able to take time this week to be in God's Word studying the significance of what Jesus did for us on the cross. When you stop and truly think about it, it brings you to a place of awe. Not only did Jesus sacrifice himself for our sins but God the Father sacrificed His only son for people he knew would still be rebellious. But he loved us so much that it was worth it. WOW! The reality of that can bring you to your knees pretty fast can't it?This week is all about Easter but looking at it in a new light. I had the blessed opportunity to talk with Elisa Morgan about the women who were at the cross and why that was so significant. Elisa was named by Christianity Today as one of the top 50 women influencing today's church and culture and is one of today's most sought-after authors, speakers and leaders. She has authored over 25 books on mothering, spiritual formation and evangelism. Elisa co-hosts the Our Daily Bread Ministries podcasts Discover the Word and God Hears Her. For twenty years, Elisa Morgan served as CEO of MOPS International and now serves as President Emerita. She has studied women in scripture more times than I can count, so I asked her to come and share with us about the topic! Her insight on this was priceless and I'm so excited to share this conversation with you. Jesus was revolutionary for women. He rewrote the narrative for their worth in the culture and helped people realize how important women are to God. Not elevating them above men but making it known that they are just as precious to him as anyone else. Jesus came to raise up the lowly against what society taught. Key Takeaways!Easter returns us to aweJesus was revolutionary for women, they were often overlooked & undervalued and he valued them greatlyJesus came to redeem everything & everyoneStop looking for the living among the dead, we are tempted to go back to those places where God showed up once and look for him there again - don’t miss him right here and right nowJesus’ redemption of us on the cross allows God the Father to see us through the righteousness of Jesus, we need to live like it!Connect with Elisa!Visit Elisa's WebsiteGet Rebecca's Book!Listen to the God Hears Her PodcastGet the Holy Week Emails HERE by snagging the FREE GIFT! Send us Fan MailWhat do we do when it seems like we are falling behind, whether in life, in career or in our relationship with God? It can feel like no matter what we do there is always something else to accomplish, something we aren't proficient enough in or something we long to have. How do we handle that? What do we do when we feel like nothing is enough? That's exactly why I have my good friend Rebecca George joining me this week on the podcast! Beyond Survival: Exploring Emotional Health and Faith with Will Acuff
Send us Fan MailIt takes time, persistence and dedication to go deeper with God.. it calls to something beyond survival! I'm so excited to introduce you to a new friend of mine, Will Acuff. Will is a pastor’s kid with a master’s in biblical studies, co-founded Corner to Corner, a nonprofit organization that promotes economic equality by launching underestimated entrepreneurs out of historically low-income communities in Nashville. As a father and husband navigating family health challenges, Will found renewal through trauma counseling and contemplative faith, embracing paths through pain to rediscover God's love and guidance. In our conversation we dive into his book, No Elevator to Everest where we explore emotional health and how faith plays such a huge role in that. The majority of us are "fixers". We see a problem, we muscle through and find solutions and move on. But when we come to the point where our "I can fix this" mentality meets a reality we can't change in our own strength we begin to struggle mentally and emotionally. What do we do about that? We have to come to the end of ourselves, where only God can fix things. Key Takeaways: Your circumstances can’t define what joy is, rather it’s what the Lord has done and is doing in our livesSelf-awareness is coming back to who you are in Christ, being attuned with your emotions, thoughts and behaviorsWe all have a custom journey on this earth by which the Lord is going to bring us to him, bringing us into alignment with his word, will and purpose for our livesHave curiosity towards yourself & GodThis isn’t about shaming yourself, it’s returning our hearts to be aligned with the heart of the LordConnect with Will!Get Will's Book!Corner to Corner WebsiteRead more of my take on the conversation by joining the weekly e-newsletter at https://kaladiane.com !Interested in attending or hosting a women's retreat? Finding Hope Amid Hardship: Triumph Over Trauma & Addiction with John Boyle
Send us Fan MailHope is something that I have been studying in scripture. Specifically the biblical meaning of hope, not the way the world tries to explain it. I dove into Psalm 25:5 which talks about hope and then God... in all of his amazing plans had me talk with John Boyle and part of his message he shares is about hope!! Of course it was because that is how God works! Biblical hope is not wishful thinking but instead is a confident expectation that God's promises will come to pass. It's knowing that no matter what God will come through and show up in ways that only he can. John Boyle was born into a multi-generational family of coal miners. He was raised in the small Appalachian town of Kingwood, West Virginia. He is a graduate of The Kiski School in Saltsburg, PA, West Virginia University School of Engineering in Morgantown, WV, and Harvard Business School in Cambridge, MA. John wrote the book, Appalachian Kid: How Hope Changed Everything to help people. His story showcases the importance of kindness and mentorship, overcoming adversity and addiction, finding faith and hope, and helping those in need. It is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and also a testament to the miracles God has performed in his life. For anyone who has ever struggled with addiction, trauma, abuse, or the weight of life’s hardships, this book offers a message of hope and a path to healing.Key Takeaways: No one who follows Jesus is a victimWill power doesn’t lead to transformation, Jesus doesCan your friends tell you’ve been with Jesus? You have to want to help yourself, no one can help you including the Lord, if you aren’t willing to ask for helpHope is a confident expectation that God’s promises will come to passYou don’t loose if you’re knocked down - only if you stay downConnect with John!Get John's Book!John's WebsiteSign up for the waitlist for the next Kala Diane Discipleship Women's Retreat (this makes you the FIRST TO KNOW when announcements come!) Silencing Anxiety & Speaking Truth: The Power of Your Testimony with Drew Ryall
Send us Fan Mail“The most powerful story you can share, besides the Gospel, is the story of what God is doing personally in your life.” - Drew RyallWe are shifting gears this week from apologetics to sharing our testimony. If we are going to be bold in Christ and learn how to defend our faith in an ever changing world, then we have to be equipped with the good news of Jesus Christ in our own lives! Others are going to want to know about the hope that we have because they can see the attributes of Jesus in us. That is why I invited the lead pastor from our church to join me today. He has been sharing his testimony boldly and authentically with our church family for years but in recent months it has become even more evident. God has given him a passion to equip others to share what God is doing in their own lives. Drew has been on staff at New Life Fellowship (NLF) since 2010 and is our main teaching pastor. His passions are teaching (fittingly) and discipleship of the church family. He loves seeing others discover their gifts and how the holy spirit will lead them to use it for His kingdom. He has the ability to be vulnerable when teaching but also in conversations with others.Drew's newly refreshed energy on this topic on Sunday mornings helped the Holy Spirit spur me on personally to dive into this conversation with him, and man am I thankful it did! Key Takeaways:It’s hard to share what God is doing in our lives but faith helps us overcome that fearToday’s anxieties can be tomorrow’s testimonyOur testimony is more than the moment we accepted Jesus as our personal savior, it’s daily being made new in ChristPut your faith into action by stepping into areas where if God doesn’t show up, you can’t do itYou cannot be anxious and thankful at the same timeAll God requires is a mustard seed of faithNew Life Fellowship WebsiteSupport the showWant to go deeper into the conversation?
