Pray or Point Fingers?
How should we respond to the shooting in Uvalde, Texas? God calls us to pray. To pray for our world, to pray for people to be saved, and to pray for those grieving. The Bible says to “weep with those who weep." (Romans 12:15) My advice would be to stop pointing fingers, pray, and ask God “what is mine to do?” What is it that He wants us to do? What Do We Expect From Dead People?
How do we expect unbelievers to believe the Bible if they don't have true life? 2 Corinthians 4:1-6 says that only belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior brings life. Do You Trust the Gospel More Than Your Opinions?
Does legislation have the power to change people's lives or does the Gospel? Legislation might change some lives, but only the Gospel has the power to change lives forever. We get caught up in the issues of the day and forget that the Gospel message has the power to change people's lives for eternity. Trusting Jesus Christ as your savior transforms you. Our world can't be transformed without Jesus. If you believe in the power of the Gospel, how does that change your approach to racism, justice, gender, or abortion? Tell me about it. Questions for personal reflection:What does it mean to “believe in the power of the Gospel”?Why do you think we often try to change people through laws or arguments instead of through the Gospel? How does the story of the blind man healed by Jesus illustrate spiritual transformation? How might believing in the Gospel’s power change how you respond to cultural issues like racism or social justice?2 Corinthians 4: 1-6Ephesians 2: 1-10 John 92 Corinthians 5: 17 Romans 1: 162 Corinthians 5: 21

URGENT Prayer Request! | Proclaim Ministries Podcast
URGENT prayer request! There are a lot of narratives in our culture. I think God has the best narrative out there. I want to engage the culture where it is.[2:55] The verse that Proclaim Ministries is based on and the two-fold focus of Proclaim Ministries: Proclaim Ministries is based on Colossians 1:28 “Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.” We want to proclaim Jesus Christ. We want to help believers connect their faith and their life. Helping those who don’t have faith. We want to present the Gospel to everyone. [6:00] The two evils we have all committed. Jeremiah 2:13 - Rejecting God and the world He created.[9:28] The URGENT prayer request in 6 parts (2 Timothy 3: 1-5; Colossians 4: 3-6): 1. Pray that I present the Gospel clearly and unapologetically, 2. Pray that I walk in wisdom toward outsiders, 3. Pray that I would be gracious and my words seasoned with salt, 4. Pray for my opportunities, 5. Pray that I would be able to engage in these cultural topics, and 6. Pray that I would speak the truth in love. You Need Struggle to Live Well | James 1 | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown Ep139
I’ve often joked that my problems have their own problems, but have you ever stopped to think that you actually need those struggles to live well? In this podcast episode, I share a fascinating story about a man-made ecosystem called a biosphere where the trees kept falling over for one surprising reason: there was no wind. It turns out, without the stress of the wind, a tree’s roots never grow deep enough to hold it up. We are a lot like those trees. We often try to rescue ourselves or our kids from every hardship, but James 1 tells us to "count it all joy" when we face trials because that struggle is exactly what produces endurance and maturity. Join me as we discuss why the hard things in your life might actually be the very things making you stronger. Watch now and let’s grow deeper together.VC Family full sermon Rhythm & Bible: JamesQuestions for personal reflection:What is a "wind" (a struggle or trial) in your life right now that might be forcing your roots to grow deeper? How can we help others persevere through a struggle rather than just taking the struggle away? James 1:2 says to "consider it all joy" when you face trials. Does this mean we have to be happy about the pain, or is it about what the pain produces? We’d love to hear from you! Is Asking for Help Actually a Strength? | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown Ep138
I used to think that asking for help or directions was a sign I didn't have my life together. But I've realized that being too proud to ask for help actually slows us down. In this video, I share a video by my friend Philip Cothran about why even the best pro golfers in life still need a caddy. Whether you are struggling in your marriage, your finances, or your walk with God, you don't have to go it alone. Let’s break the stigma and choose wisdom over pride.“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.” -Proverbs 15:18https://Phillip's YouTube channel Questions for personal reflection:Why do you think we often feel embarrassed or "weak" when we have to ask someone for help? Philip Cothran mentioned that even pro golfers need a caddy. Who is a "wiser person" in your life that you could invite in for counsel? Read Proverbs 15:18. Be Intentional Like Daniel | A Resolution That Actually Lasted | Connecting Faith & Life Ep137
I have a question for you: Did you make a New Year’s resolution this year? How is it going? It’s easy to start with big goals, and after a few weeks quit altogether. I chose the word “intentionality” in lieu of a New Year’s resolution this year, and it led me back to a powerful story in Daniel 1. Daniel was pressured to change his name, his language, and his lifestyle, but he resolved not to defile himself. Join me in this Connecting Faith & Life episode as we discuss how to be a "thermostat" instead of a "thermometer" and why living with purpose matters more than just fitting in.Questions for personal reflection:What is one area of your life where you need to decide now to follow God, before you are tested? Do you tend to set the "temperature" (the mood or values) in your family or friend group, or do you just reflect what everyone else is doing? Does God Ever Change His Mind? | Numbers 23:19 | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown Ep136
I recently had a student ask me a tough question: "Did you ever lie as a kid?" The honest answer is yes. I was actually pretty deceptive because I didn't want to get in trouble . But that question got me thinking about how different we are from God. We often try to make God in our own image, but the truth is that God is not like us. He doesn't lie, and He doesn't break His Word. In this video, I'm diving into Numbers 23:19 to show why we can actually trust the promises of God, even when we struggle to trust ourselves. Watch now to see why God's character is the only thing we can truly hold onto.Questions for personal reflection:I believe that being "deceptive" is just as bad as lying. What is the difference between the two, and why do we often find deception easier to justify? Why is it dangerous to create a "God in our own image" instead of looking at who He says He is in the Bible? Numbers 23:19 says God is not a human being that He should change His mind. How does knowing God is unchanging help you when life feels out of control? Is Your Heart Dwelling in the Right Things? | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown Ep135
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what it means to truly "dwell" in God’s Word. It’s more than just reading a verse and moving on; it’s about marinating in it.In this video, I’m trying out some new production tools while sharing how I personally keep my heart stirred for Christ. Whether I’m driving or working in the studio, I’ve found that listening to Scripture and solid preaching has quite literally saved the direction of my life. I also walk you through some of my favorite apps, like Dwell, that make it easy to keep the Bible playing in your home or car.Are you letting the world steal your affections, or are you intentionally stirring them for God? When Guilt and Shame Keep You Away From God, Do This! | Connecting Faith & Life Ep134
I’ve been there. I grew up in the church, sang in the choir, and knew all the verses, but my heart was miles away. For a long time, I lived a double life, feeling the weight of guilt and shame every time I stepped through those church doors. If you feel like you’ve drifted too far or that your past is a barrier between you and God, I want to share the invitation that changed everything for me. Join me, as I talk about how to stop hiding and start drawing near to the One who never moved in the first place.Questions for personal reflection:Have you ever felt like you were just "going through the motions" in your faith? Break Free from Worry: 3 Simple Steps to Lasting Peace | Connecting Faith & Life Ep133
Honestly? I still have a lot to learn about worry. Jesus tells us straight up in Matthew 6 not to worry about tomorrow, but that’s often easier said than done, right? In this episode of Connecting Faith & Life, I’m digging into the idea that worry is essentially like carrying tomorrow's heavy 25lb dumbbells on today’s shoulders. We’re going to walk through Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount and uncover the Weight of worry, the Witness God gives us in creation, and ultimately, the Way to find peace through seeking Him first. If you are carrying what is meant for tomorrow today, I pray this message helps you put down those weights and live fully in the grace God has provided for this moment. Are you ready to let go? Watch now and discuss with someone you trust. What’s one tomorrow-weight you can put down today? Let me know in the comments. Peace.Questions for personal reflection:In the video, I use the metaphor of carrying 25lb dumbbells today just to prepare for a workout tomorrow. What is one specific emotional weight (worry) you are currently carrying today that is truly meant for tomorrow?I make a distinction between "concern" and "worry" (concern is thoughtful preparation and prayer; worry is consuming attempts to control the future). Think of a situation you are currently facing: does your response fall more under the category of concern, or are you living in worry?Jesus tells us to look at the birds and flowers as "witnesses" of God's care. What specific area of God's provision in your life, big or small, can you look back on as your own "witness" that He will also care for you tomorrow?I conclude with the thought: "You can't handle tomorrow today. Grace is for today." If you truly believed you had enough grace for only what you face today, how would that change the way you spend your energy and thoughts over the next 24 hours? We’d love to hear from you! Guarding Your Kids’ Hearts Starts With This One Thing | Connecting Faith & Life Ep132
As a parent, I try to be careful about what my kids eat physically. But this week I started asking myself a deeper question: What are they consuming spiritually? In this video, I share a simple moment from Sunday school that can turn into an important conversation for parents. When I asked the kids what song they woke up with in their heads, the answers reminded me how powerful music really is.Songs stick with us. Lyrics repeat in our minds. And what gets planted in our hearts often shows up later in our lives. This isn’t about being legalistic or criticizing anyone. I’m talking to myself as much as anyone else. As parents, we can’t control everything our kids hear in the world, but we can shape the environment in our homes and cars. What if we helped our kids fill their minds with truth? What if the songs stuck in their heads reminded them who they are in Christ? My goal isn’t guilt. It’s conversation. I’d love to hear your thoughts.Watch now and ask yourself: What are we feeding our kids spiritually? Then talk about it with your family.Questions for personal reflection:What songs or messages tend to stay in your mind throughout the day? Why do you think they stick?Proverbs 4:23 says to guard your heart. What are some practical ways families can guard their hearts at home or in the car?How does music shape what we believe about ourselves, joy, or life? What are some songs, artists, or messages that help remind you who you are in Christ? We’d love to hear from you! How Do We Teach Kids to Grieve? | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown Ep131
In this message, I reflect on a powerful truth: we grieve the loss, but we remember the gift with gratitude. Recently, our community gathered to celebrate the life of Susan “Suzie” Smith—a woman whose compassion, courage, and decades of nursing changed countless lives. Over 1,000 people came together to honor her legacy, her faith, and her impact. As I share memories, scripture, and the hope we cling to in Christ, I’m reminded how important it is to teach our kids not to run from grief but to walk through it with faith and gratitude. Suzie’s life was a gift. Her legacy continues through The Our Angel That Flies Foundation, and through every life she touched. If you’ve lost someone you love, I pray this message encourages you. Watch now—and remember the gift God gave through their life.Questions for personal reflection:What does it mean to “grieve the loss but remember the gift”? Can both happen at the same time? How can a person’s legacy continue to impact others after they’re gone? Why is it important for young people to learn how to process grief rather than avoid it?When have you seen someone use their life to serve and uplift others, the way Suzie did? We’d love to hear from you! Would Your Kids Come To You With Hard Questions? | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown Ep130
In this episode of Connecting Faith & Life, I’m sharing a message that hit home for a lot of parents when I first recorded it a few years ago. I spend a lot of time in schools, churches, and classrooms talking with kids and I hear the conversations they’re having. The truth is simple: our kids are listening to loud voices every day. Social media, friends, and the internet are shaping their thinking long before many parents even realize it.That’s why I want to encourage you with one simple challenge: talk to your kids.Talk about the small things.Talk about everyday life. And don’t be afraid to talk about the hard things too.If we stay silent, other voices will gladly fill that space. But when we build real conversations with our kids, we earn the trust to guide them through the issues that matter most.In this episode, I share why conversations matter, how parents can build trust with their kids, and why silence might be the biggest mistake we make.Watch now and ask yourself: Are my kids hearing my voice clearly? Questions for personal reflection:Why do you think many parents hesitate to talk with their kids about difficult topics? What are some simple ways parents can start everyday conversations with their kids? How does social media influence the way kids form opinions today? If kids are hearing many voices online, how can parents make sure their voice matters most? We’d love to hear from you! Super Bowl, Bad Bunny, Turning Point USA & You [Part 2] | Connecting Faith & Life Ep129
In part two, I talk honestly about the Super Bowl controversy, halftime shows, and the bigger question we all need to ask: just because something is lawful, is it beneficial? I’m not here to give you a list of what to watch or not watch. I’m asking the question that has challenged me deeply: Does this glorify God? Does it stir my affection for Christ or steal it?We have freedom as believers. But freedom isn’t the same as growth. In this episode, I share four practical heart-checks that have changed how I consume music, shows, social media, and everything in between. I’m still growing. I’m still learning. But I want to be intentional about connecting my faith and my life.Watch now. Then ask yourself: Would Jesus pass the couch test in my living room?Questions for personal reflection:How do you decide whether something is beneficial for your spiritual life?Have you ever realized something you were consuming was shaping your thinking more than you thought? What does it practically look like to “renew your mind” in today’s media culture?Does your entertainment stir your affection for God or slowly dull it?Rooted and Ready Day 28 1 Corinthians 10:31Dwell appThis is an affiliate link—thanks for supporting what we do.We’d love to hear from you! Super Bowl, Bad Bunny, Turning Point USA & You [Part 1] | Connecting Faith & Life Ep128
Did you watch the Super Bowl? Did you see the halftime show or the alternative broadcast from Turning Point USA? In this episode of Connecting Faith and Life, I take a different angle on the controversy surrounding Bad Bunny, the NFL, and the cultural reactions that followed. Instead of debating sides, I ask a deeper question: Are we trying to clean up the world or point people to Jesus? As believers, we can choose what we watch. But is it beneficial? Does it stir our affections for God or steal them? In Part 1, I share four biblical principles to help us think clearly, act wisely, and keep the Gospel central in a culture that constantly demands our attention.Watch now, then ask yourself: What am I consuming and what is it shaping in me?Questions for personal reflection:Why do you think Christians often rush to debate cultural moments instead of focusing on the gospel? What does it mean that people are “dead in their trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2 in the Bible)? God Is Love, But What Does That Actually Mean? | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown Ep127
What’s love got to do with it? In this Connecting Faith & Life episode, I wrestle with a simple but life-changing question: Which definition of love are you living by? On Valentine’s Day, culture tells us love is a feeling. Chemistry. Romance. But Scripture tells us something deeper. In this video, I talk about how love doesn’t start with us. It starts with God. God doesn’t just show love. God is love. And that changes how we treat people online, in our homes, and even when love isn’t returned. If you’ve ever wondered whether love is more than emotion… this one’s for you.Watch now. Then ask yourself: What would change if you let God define love?Questions for personal reflection:Where did you first learn what love means? Music, movies, family, church? Give Them Space To Grow | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown Ep126
I once helped my wife repot a plant, moving it from a small pot into a bigger one so it could keep growing. That simple moment reminded me of something deeper about how we work with kids and teenagers.Too often, we label people based on who they used to be instead of giving them space to grow. Just like plants need room for their roots, people need grace, patience, and space to grow.In this episode of Connecting Faith and Life, I share a youth leader training on why labels can stunt spiritual growth and how even “Doubting Thomas” was given room to believe. If you work with kids or teens, this conversation matters.Watch now and ask yourself, Are we giving them room to grow? We’d love to hear from you! Help Kids Treasure God's Word | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown Ep122
I’ve learned that if something matters, you protect it. That’s why I believe kids need to hide God’s Word in their hearts. In this video, I share why teaching memory verses matters, how Psalm 119:11 has shaped my ministry, and a simple five-step method I’ve used through CEF and in my own church. I also walk through 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 and show how hand motions and engaging activities help kids actually remember Scripture, not just repeat it. This isn’t about entertainment. It’s about helping kids treasure God’s Word for life.Watch now and ask yourself, what are we really teaching kids to hold onto? The King We’ve Always Wanted But Never Had | Advent Reflections Week 4 | CFL Podcast Ep119
In this final Advent reflection, Andrea Brown and I sit down to look at Scripture with fresh eyes. Psalm 72, Isaiah’s prophecy, Micah’s shepherd-King, Luke’s upside-down birth narrative, and the hope of Romans 5 all point us to the same truth: Jesus is the King we’ve always longed for. As we talk, I’m reminded how much we all need real peace and how deeply it matters that we find it in Him.If you’ve been following the series, thank you. If not, jump in. Watch now and reflect with your family or your small group. Let’s keep pursuing the King who brings justice, peace, and hope.Advent: The Songs of the First ChristmasQuestions for personal reflection:Which passage from this reflection (Psalm 72, Isaiah, Micah, Luke, or Romans) spoke to you the most, and why?How does Jesus’ upside-down kingship challenge the way we think about power, peace, or leadership?Where do you currently feel a longing for justice or peace, and how does Scripture speak into that longing? What would it look like for your home or group to engage Scripture more intentionally this season? We’d love to hear from you! What Does It Really Mean to Fear the Lord? | Advent Reflections Week 3 | CFL Podcast Ep118
This week, let’s reflect on what it really means to fear the Lord, not to be scared of God, but to honor Him with a reverent love that shapes how we live. Andrea and I also share how music, repetition, and different Bible translations (like the NET Bible) help us go deeper into God’s forgiveness, His love, and the hope of Advent. If you’ve ever wondered how fear, love, peace, and joy all work together during Advent, this one’s for you. Watch now and consider where God might be inviting you to slow down and listen.Advent: The Songs of the First ChristmasQuestions for personal reflectionWhen you hear “fear the Lord,” what emotions or ideas come to mind? Has that understanding changed over time?Which Scripture passage this week (Psalm 130, Exodus 34, Isaiah 40, John 3:16, etc.) felt most personal or challenging? Joy in Chaos: Mary Shows Us How | Advent Reflections Week 2 | Connecting Faith & Life Ep117
This week in our Advent series Songs of the First Christmas, my wife and I sat with Mary’s song, and I was reminded how often God works through the overlooked. Mary didn’t fully understand God’s plan, but she still said, “Let it be to me according to your word.”Her trust challenges me. Am I willing to say the same, even when life feels chaotic? Even when God’s plan doesn’t line up with my expectations? If you’re walking through uncertainty, or holding tightly to your own plans, this reflection might speak to you. Watch now, share with someone who needs encouragement, and take time to ask: What would it look like to say yes to God today?Advent: The Songs of the First ChristmasQuestions for personal reflection:Where in your life do you struggle to say, “Not my will, but Yours”?Why do you think God often chooses the humble and overlooked to carry out His biggest plans? How does Mary’s response challenge your view of trust and obedience? What helps you find joy even when life feels chaotic or uncertain? We’d love to hear from you! Faith With No Guarantees | Advent Reflections Week 1 | Connecting Faith & Life Ep116
In this episode of Connecting Faith and Life, we’re kicking off a brand-new Advent series called “Songs of the First Christmas.” Each week, we slow down with Scripture through readings, prayers, and reflections. Andrea Brown and I share how we read, reflect, and respond to the Bible, and why listening has become such a big part of hearing God speak to my heart. This week, we focus on hope, especially the kind that grows in places that feel empty or barren. Luke begins the Christmas story with a couple who had every reason to give up. Isaiah invites the barren to sing. And Hebrews honors people who trusted God even when the promise didn’t look the way they expected.Their stories remind me that real hope begins with God Himself, not just the things I long for. Watch now and reflect. What does hope look like for you this Advent season?Advent: The Songs of the First Christmas Questions for personal reflection:Why do you think Luke begins the Christmas story with Zechariah and Elizabeth instead of Jesus?Isaiah tells the barren person to “sing.” What might that symbolize for someone feeling discouraged or empty today? What does it mean to place your hope in God Himself rather than in a specific outcome?Hebrews celebrates people who never received what they were promised. Advent: The Songs of the First Christmas | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown Ep115
As my family and I walk through Advent, I’m reminded how easy it is to rush past the season without really slowing down. In this video, my wife Andrea Brown and I share why Advent: The Songs of the First Christmas matters — and how these scriptures, prayers, and simple rhythms help us pay attention to Jesus’ first coming and prepare our hearts for His return. This reflection invites honest questions: What am I longing for? Faith, Life, and the Next Generation—Are We Ready? | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown
I’m excited to share the relaunch of the Connecting Faith and Life podcast. After a recent loss in our church family and a fresh reflection on Psalm 90:12, I felt God nudging me to return with a renewed focus—helping kids and teens connect faith with real life, and supporting the adults who disciple them.In this episode, I talk about my heart for teaching kids, my role at VC Family Church, and why this new direction matters. I’m also announcing something big: the 110 Faith in Life Framework—a new curriculum launching in January to equip both adults and kids in their walk with God.If you believe in discipling the next generation, join me on this journey. Watch now, share it, pray for the ministry, and help spread the word as we connect faith and life together."So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom." Psalm 90:12Questions for personal reflection:Psalm 90:12 says to “number our days.” What do you think that means for your daily life and decisions? Why do you think it’s important for kids and teens to connect their faith with real life? What qualities do you appreciate in the people who disciple or mentor you? What is one thing you feel motivated to change or pay attention to?We’d love to hear from you! Big & Unexpected News | Connecting Faith & Life With Mister Brown Ep113
Life can change in an instant. In this heartfelt episode of Connecting Faith and Life, I share two major updates—one very unexpected and personal, and another that marks a new chapter for Proclaim Ministries.First, I open up about a serious hand injury that required surgery and recovery. What began as an ordinary morning suddenly turned into an ER visit, stitches, and weeks of physical therapy. Yet through the pain, I experienced God’s presence and the power of prayer in ways I never had before. The love, compassion, and encouragement I received from family, friends, and our ministry community reminded me that we don’t always need to “fix” people’s problems—sometimes just being present makes all the difference.Second, I reveal the exciting new direction for Proclaim Ministries. We are sharpening our focus: helping kids and teens connect faith and life—and equipping the adults who disciple them with clarity and competence. This means new content, a fresh framework (the One10 Faith & Life Framework), and renewed commitment to serving churches and families worldwide. This episode is both a story of gratitude in hardship and a vision for the future. Whether you’re a parent, youth leader, or simply passionate about reaching the next generation, I invite you to join us on this journey. We’d love to hear from you! Adults fall victim to the comparison trap that social media creates, but kids and teens do so much more. Social media has created an environment where people not only compare themselves to other people they know, but to other people in the world, including fake accounts.I want to encourage kids and teens to be faithful to their own paths, as set by God, rather than trying to be like others. One way to do that is to spend time with God's Word. Reading the Bible helps all of us understand God’s true nature and avoid creating false idols. Are you weak, strong, or wise?"Weak people seek pleasure. Strong people seek purpose. Wise people seek God." We can be easily tempted to only seek pleasure in our lives. But we are just as readily tempted to seek purpose. True pleasure and purpose are only found in God.“We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” - C.S. Are You Too Busy or Is It Something Else? | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown Ep110
Are you too distracted, busy, arrogant, or lazy to spend time with God everyday? This is not a guilt trip, but a gracious invitation to spend time with the Creator of the universe.[0:00] Intro[1:00] Do what you know[6:00] Join the club[14:00] Be sharpenedBible Verses:James 4:8Mark 1:35Luke 10:38-42 Proverbs 27:17We have all been there. We get distracted or busy and put our personal time with God on the back burner. We know we should read our Bibles and pray more, but we don’t.The key message is that knowing what to do must be translated into doing it. A new employee cannot be too busy to meet with their boss or they may end up making mistakes. Spending time with God is essential for growth, guidance, and empowerment. This is not a guilt trip, but a gracious invitation to spend time with the Creator of the universe.Jesus had a practice of rising early in the morning to spend time with the Father. Even during the most intense instances of Jesus’ ministry, He chose to spend time with God. Jesus is an example that we need solitude and intimacy with God before serving others.Intimacy with God must be scheduled, not squeezed in. Time spent with God is the most important meeting we will have each day. Like an ax needs to be sharpened before cutting wood, we are sharpened by spending time with God.Questions to consider:What practical steps can you take to make your time with God a priority, even on your busiest days? How can you overcome the distractions and busyness that prevent you from spending consistent time with God?Action Items:Reflect on whether you are too busy, distracted, arrogant, or lazy to spend time with God, and make adjustments as needed.Consider joining the "before the world wakes up club" and making time to connect with God in the morning.Ensure that you are being "sharpened" by God before engaging in the "deep work" for Him.Prioritize spending time with God daily, even if it's just for a short period. We’d love to hear from you! Peace Is Possible—Even for the Anxious | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown Ep109
In this podcast, I reflect on the temptation to worry and the importance of seeking God as the source of all things. I also discuss the concept of trusting God and the peace that comes from giving our worries to Him.[0:00] Intro[2:50] Worry about nothing[10:00] Help kids not to worry[13:00] Philippians 4:6 memory verse[14:50] Bible Verse:Philippians 4:6-7Philippians 4:6 memory verseAt times, I am tempted to worry. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “...do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”I like this verse because it reminds me about God’s provision. He is the source. When I am tempted to worry, I can look to God and know that He is in control. No matter the outcome, I know that it is part of God’s plan.Teaching Kids to Pray and Not WorryKids have a lot they are worried about. That is why teaching them how to pray is essential. Teaching them memory verses can help them not to worry about anything and pray about everything.Personal Reflections and Practical AdviceBeing disconnected from God can lead to worry. That is why spending time in God’s Word is so important. Define the Relationship: What Does It Actually Mean to Have a Relationship with God? | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown Ep108
What does it actually mean to have a relationship with God? All relationships need to be defined and that is especially important for your relationship with Jesus Christ. But who gets to decide the level of commitment in your relationship with the one true God? Jesus does.[0:00] Intro[0:53] The power of prayer[5:35] What is “doing good”?[8:45] Jesus defines the relationship[18:45] Final thoughtsBible verses:Luke 9:23 James 1:22 Philippians 4:9Become a Proclaim Ministries Partner Prayer and Doing GoodSometimes the only and best thing you can do in a crisis is to pray. The importance of prayer is not in accomplishing a certain outcome. The main significance of prayer is seeking God in all circumstances. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6-7Prayer is an act unto God. It is doing “good.” Galatians 6:9 encourages us to not become weary in doing good, as it will lead to a harvest at the proper time and it will always glorify God. “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” - Galatians 6:9Defining Your Relationship with JesusAll relationships need to be defined and that is especially important for your relationship with Jesus Christ. But who gets to decide the level of commitment in your relationship with the one true God? Jesus does. There is a cost of following Jesus. In Luke 9:23, Jesus calls for self-denial, to take up your cross daily, and follow Him. Self-denial means saying no to selfish ambitions and following God's plans, not your own.You also must be willing to suffer for Christ. In Acts 5, Peter and John are beaten but they rejoice because they were worthy to suffer for Christ's name. The depth of your relationship with Jesus is more than just believing but involves belonging and loyalty. It is a relationship of discipleship, where you follow and obey Jesus as the leader. Your relationship must stand firm on truth and not be swayed by the world's opinions. As described in James 1:22, you must be doers of the word and not just hearers. The relationship with Jesus is one where God calls individuals into a relationship, not just into following rules or religion. Jesus calls us into truth.“Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. I want to assure you that God knows and loves you.In 1 Samuel 16:7, God tells Samuel that He looks at the heart, not the outer appearance, to emphasize that God knows our true selves. If you are feeling misunderstood, find comfort in knowing that God sees and loves you, even when others may not. Seek God and confess your sins to Him, knowing that He is faithful and just to forgive you. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” - 1 John 1:9We’d love to hear from you! Do You Believe God's Story Over Your Own? | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown Ep104
Do you believe God’s story? Be careful with the stories you tell yourself and what narratives you are projecting onto others. Learn to live in freedom and trust in God's promises.[0:00] The stories we tell ourselves[3:40] Do you believe God’s story?Bible versesProverbs 3:5-6Hebrews 10:23Numbers 13:33“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” - Proverbs 3:5-6Hebrews 10:23 Memory VerseWhat stories do you tell yourself? Do the stories align with what God has said?Proverbs 3:5-6 is a message to trust in the Lord with all your heart and not to rely on your own understanding. This passage is a reminder to filter your thoughts through what God says, whether through His Word, prayer, or the Holy Spirit.Numbers 13 recounts the story of the Israelites sending spies into Canaan and their reactions to the land's abundance and the size of its inhabitants. The Israelites' doubts led them to project their fears onto others, creating a narrative that caused them to refuse to enter the Promised Land. Only Caleb and Joshua believed God's promise and encouraged the Israelites to trust Him. We can learn from the Israelites' experience and the importance of not projecting our fears onto others in our own lives.Calls to Action:Use Proverbs 3:5-6 as a guiding principle for trusting in God and not relying on your own understanding.Seek God's understanding through His Word, prayer, and the Holy Spirit.Acknowledge God's past successes and trust in His ability to fulfill His promises. We’d love to hear from you! Is God's Way Better? | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown Ep103
Is God’s way better? I think so. While human ways may seem more convenient, God's way is always better, even if it is not always easy.[0:00] Intro[1:30] Is God’s way better?[11:30] Practical tips for choosing God’s way[15:45] Final thoughtsBible Verses:2 Corinthians 12:7-10Proverbs 3:5-6 Forrest Frank, “Your Way’s Better” There are many examples in the Bible of people choosing their own way over God’s way. In every situation, there were major consequences of choosing their own way over God's way. In Genesis, Adam and Eve’s disobedience led to sin and death. There was short-term and long-term brokenness when Abraham and Sarah tried to have a child their own way. The Israelites' request for a king in 1 Samuel 8 despite God's warnings, brought destruction. In the New Testament, Peter attempted to prevent Jesus from going to the cross. Jesus' response to Peter was, "Get behind Me, Satan."God's way is always better, even if it is not always comfortable. In 2 Corinthians 12:7-10, Paul describes his thorn in the flesh and God's response. God did not remove the ailment that Paul had, but Paul trusted God's grace in that difficult situation. Here is some practical advice for choosing God’s way in your circumstances:Don’t rush into relationships. Slow down and get to know the other person. In your career there is a balance between making money and fulfilling God's calling. Use your gifts and talents to not only support yourself financially but to give to God.Choose forgiveness. It is a key aspect of God's way. Let go of grudges and trust God's way of forgiveness.Action steps:Share your own story of how you've learned that God's way is better.Start a conversation with someone about this topic and discuss how it applies to your lives.Listen to the song "Your Way’s Better" by Forrest Frank and reflect on the message. We’d love to hear from you! Why Should I Thank God? My Life is Horrible! | Connecting Faith & Life with Mister Brown Ep102
Why should I thank God? My life is horrible. Learn how to stay grateful and grounded despite life's challenges.[0:00] Intro[0:45] Thanking God despite challenges[4:00] Compassion for pain[11:00] Avoid false narrativesBible Verses:1 Thessalonians 5:16-18Numbers 13:33Life’s struggles can make it difficult to want to thank God. Sometimes the stories we tell ourselves and the narratives we create in our minds, make it even more challenging. We tend to look at other people’s lives with rose colored glasses. It even happened in the Bible. In Genesis, Adam and Eve questioned God.We also have examples of people in the Bible who chose to trust God in the midst of trials. Joseph, who was sold into slavery and imprisoned, remained faithful to God. The Hebrew boys thrown into the fiery furnace and John the Baptist, who lost his head for preaching God's word, are also examples of faith in difficult circumstances. Jeremiah and the Apostle Paul faced hardships but remained steadfast in their faith.I’m not suggesting that thanking God in bad circumstances is easy. We should have compassion for people who are struggling and understand the broader perspective of God's faithfulness in difficult situations. Unfortunately, people will experience pain in their lives. However, God is in control and has a plan, even if it is not always clear.“God is responsible for the fact of freedom but not the acts of freedom.”God is trustworthy. We can give thanks in all circumstances, not necessarily for the situation itself but for God's presence and control. It takes looking beyond our current circumstances and seeing God's hand at work. We can always be grateful because God is faithful, even if we don't feel it or see it.Action steps:Have courage and trust that God will never leave you nor forsake you. Focus on God's character rather than your circumstances. Avoid telling yourself false narratives about God.We’d love to hear from you! How Do I Keep Trusting God? 3 Key Practices to Start Today | Connecting Faith & Life Ep100
How can you trust God even through the tough times? I will share three key practices you can start today.[0:00] How to keep trusting God[3:45] How to trust God when…[10:45] 3 ways to trust God more[20:30] Final thoughtsBible Verses:Proverbs 3:5-6Psalm 119:105Romans 12:1-2Psalm 1:1-3Psalm 103:19Romans 8:28Psalm 145:3As Christians, we know how important it is to rely on God's understanding rather than our own. But in practical terms, that can be a challenge for us, particularly in times of hardship and uncertainty. One of the best ways to continually put your trust in God is through prayer, especially when facing anxiety. We have a tendency toward self-reliance and independence, which is good in some circumstances. However, we must remember our need for God to live and function daily. Through prayer, you can ask for guidance on how to trust God in various life situations, including when life doesn't go as planned.Three key practices for trusting God: Reading God's word daily.Meditating on God’s word.Remembering who God is.Read the Bible daily, even if it's just a few verses, and meditate on those verses throughout the day. This will renew your mind with God's truth to live a life connected to faith. God's word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Use Bible apps and other resources to help you read and meditate on God's word daily. Trusting God more will come through spending time in His word. Through reading and meditating on God’s word, you will remember the attributes of God, such as sovereignty and omniscience. It is God and His attributes that make Him trustworthy. This will help you focus on God's understanding and not rely solely on your own.Identify specific areas in your life where it's hard to trust God, such as family, finances, or relationships. Journal and pray about these areas to bring them to God and seek His guidance. Focus on God's faithfulness and remember His past actions to trust Him in the present. What is one area in your life where it is hard to trust God right now? Follow these action steps:Read God's word every day.Meditate on God's word every day.Remember who God is and His attributes. We’d love to hear from you!
