40-Day Lenten Devotional

Although Easter is right around the corner, do not stop what you have been doing. Continue growing and strengthening in your spiritual disciplines.

Holy Saturday is the day after Jesus death. Everyone saw him take his last breath and be carried down into his tomb. Everyone knew he was dead. The song that goes along with this lesson is "In Christ Alone" by Shane and Shane.

This Good Friday, we see Jesus being betrayed by his friends and taken up on the cross. The song that goes along with the lesson for today is "Were You There" in LSB 456 OR “Were Your There” by Chris Rice.

On this Maundy Thursday, Jesus sits down for his last meal with his disciples. They do not know or understand what is to come, but they soon will. The song that goes along with today is "The Lamb" in LSB 547 OR by Concordia Publishing House.

On this Lenten Wednesday, we see how God made promises back in the Old Testament with Isaiah for a Savior to come. The song to listen to today is "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" in LSB 426 OR “The Wonderful Cross” by Shane & Shane.

As we move into Holy Week, we must prepare our minds for what is to happen to Jesus and how because of these events, we have eternal life in his name.

Use these prayer prompts to navigate your time with God.

Jesus completed the once and for all sacrifice for our sins. We sacrifice things in our lives, but nothing compared to his miraculous action.

Jesus felt pain just like you and me. Although full God and full man, he felt sadness, soreness, anger, and betrayal.

Suffering is full of pain and agony. Jesus suffered the ultimate sacrifice so that we have life in his name.

This is the week before Holy Week. It is to help us prepare for what is to come when Jesus rides in on a donkey to getting hung on a tree.

Answer these questions or think about them as they help guide you through your time of prayer.

With all that God has given us, we are to rejoice in his name.

There are many people in our lives who are leaders. Some are good, and some lead others astray. We need to be the leaders God calls us to be to lead people to him.

Trust with the Lord doesn't come from thin air. When we find peace in him, we trust him. The Holy Spirit allows us to find deep peace and comfort in his words so that we can grow in our faith.

This week, the song that encapsulates our theme of love and breath is "God So Loved" by We the Kingdom.

The Holy Spirit works through us daily to carry out God's works. This breath that God gave Adam when he created him is the same breath that fills us so that we have faith and are made alive in his name.

With all these questions of truth and facts in the world, we know that God's love is truth. He showed his ultimate power when he sent his son whom he loved to die for the sins of the world. God is true love.

God never leaves our side and never stops providing for what we need. Yet, we often fall short and forget all his gracious acts towards us. Without God, we wouldn’t have all that we do to support our daily needs.

God's love is greater than anything else. We cannot even imagine what it is like or relate to it on any level. His love stretches beyond any human means because of its unconditional nature.

This week of prayer prompts is to help you during your time with God. It goes over the lessons of the week of listening, acting on, and going when God calls.

God has a history of calling people to serve and lead from the Old Testament to now. He uses those that even though we might never expect to take on that role, he knows they can and enables them to do so.

God wants open communication with us even though he knows all. Do not forget to keep him updated in your everyday life because he wants to be apart of it.

God has never and will never leave our side. Everyday he watches over us, hear our prayers, and works to keep us safe as his children.

God continually talks to us through answering our prayers and calling out to us. Just as he called out to Samuel, he uses us for his mission here on earth. We are blessed because we can talk to our father in Heaven.

We are born to rely on God. He promises to provide for our daily needs and always carries through. God is our ultimate protector, savior, giver, and life preserver.

God created us out of nothing and gave us life. There is no match for the devil when we have his power and strength on our side. We find life in Christ when we confess and receive his absolution.

Today's devotional is about temptation. Satan never stops and will attack anyone, even Jesus. Jesus, however, is our fortress and our strength to defend us against Satan and bring us back to him.

For Ash Wednesday, we receive ashes in the sign of a "cross" on our foreheads. It helps us remember that we are dust, and from dust we came and shall return to. Jesus saved us so that we will forever live with him in Heaven.
