Ackworth Acorns to Oaks: The Roots…Keep Bright The Chain
by Rachel Belk
The Roots: Every community is shaped by the people who came before it. Ackworth School’s roots are deep, stretching back 250 years, and with them come a chain of memories, friendships and shared values passed from one generation to the next.In this series we listen to the voices that form those roots: Old Scholars reflecting on their time at Ackworth, retired staff sharing stories from decades in the classroom, and conversations that bring our archive to life. Through oral histories and threads such as Ackworth in 50 Objects, we explore the people, places and moments that have shaped the Ackworth School of today. These conversations underline that history is not something distant or abstract. It lives in reminiscences and traditions that continue to influence the present. By recording and sharing these stories, we add new links to the chain — keeping bright the connection between past, present and future.
