Active Generosity Podcast

Welcome to Active Generosity, Stewardship's brand new podcast. Join us for an exploration into the world of faithful and generous Christian stewardship.I'm your host, Ruth Jackson. Each month I'll be chatting to a Stewardship donor, partner or colleague about their journey of generosity, exploring why and how they give, the joys and challenges they've experienced along the way and what a difference generosity makes to their lives. As you hear from both donors and leaders of charitable causes, our prayer is that you'll learn something new, experience fresh perspectives and be encouraged and inspired to take the next step on your own generosity journey. Along the way, you'll also learn something about us and the myriad ways in which we support our donors and the many charities, churches and Christian workers who are our partners. Perhaps you do already know us as a donor but have no idea we may be supporting some of your favourite causes. Or, you've come to us for help as a church or

Episode 7: Ben Nelson, business founder and sport specialist

Welcome to episode 7, the final week of the 40acts Generosity Challenge podcast!  Today, Ruth is joined by 40acts pro Ben Nelson. Ben runs a manufacturing business creating brands for businesses and influencers and is also a director of hockey at a local school. With passions for Jesus, generosity and business, Ben reflects on what it looks like to live a life of everyday generosity - not just during Lent, but all year round.  As the 40acts journey draws to a close, Ben shares highlights and challenges from this year's campaign, how generosity has become more embedded in his daily life and why small, faithful acts can become catalysts for much bigger Kingdom impact. Together, Ruth and Ben explore courage in sharing faith publicly, adapting generosity to different contexts and how God uses ordinary obedience to do extraordinary things.  "We're doing these acts for the Kingdom. God has given us a race to run - sometimes we sprint, sometimes we jog - but even the small steps can be catalysts for big things."  Ben's favourite Bible verse for Lent: 'However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me - the task of testifying to the good news of God's grace.'  Acts 20:24 (NIV)  How you can pray for Ben:  for generosity to be a year‑round rhythm, not just a Lent practice  that the season between Lent campaigns would be marked by intentional generosity and growth  for wisdom as Ben integrates faith, business and influence  that the impact of everyday acts would multiply for God's Kingdom  Related links:  Follow Ben on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bnel_wyatt/  Final thoughts: Ben's story is a powerful reminder that generosity is a lifestyle, not a moment. As this podcast series comes to an end, his encouragement to keep generosity at the forefront of everyday life challenges us to see small acts as meaningful, faithful steps in a much bigger story God is writing.  If the conversation inspired you:  Please remember to leave a review on your favourite podcast platform. Episode 6: Tim Gallagher, online fitness coach and podcaster

Welcome to episode 6 of the 40acts Generosity Challenge podcast!  Today, Ruth is joined by Tim Gallagher, online fitness coach, founder of 'Powered By Purpose' and host of the 'Morning Coffee with Tim' podcast.  Tim shares how his faith has become a more intentional part of his online presence and how 40acts arrived at exactly the right moment in his discipleship journey. From prayer videos mid‑run to simple acts of kindness, Tim reflects on how God has been prompting him to be more generous and more open about his faith in everyday life.  "If it helps one person or if it helps 100 people, it doesn't really matter. It's all for the glory of God."  Tim's favourite Bible verse for Lent: 'Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.' Colossians 3:2 (ESV)  How you can pray for Tim: for consistency as Tim shares both faith‑based and fitness content online  for discernment as he seeks to keep God at the centre of his platform  that his content would plant seeds, encourage his followers and open doors for meaningful conversations  for protection from distraction and for the wisdom to use his online influence for God's glory  Related links:  Follow Tim on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/timgallagher95/  Final thoughts Tim's story reminds us that generosity transforms both the giver and the receiver. His journey shows how everyday acts can become a spiritual practice that deepens faith and opens space for God to work.  If the conversation inspired you:   It's not too late to join in with 40acts! Episode 5: Deborah B, faith and lifestyle content creator

Welcome to episode 5 of the 40acts Generosity Challenge podcast!  In this conversation, Ruth is joined by Deborah B, a London-based faith and lifestyle content creator who uses her online platforms, including her 'Faith Talks' podcast, to mentor and encourage women in their walk with Jesus.  Deborah shares her honest journey of faith, including walking away from God, hitting rock bottom and experiencing restoration through God's mercy. She reflects on how taking part in 40acts has challenged her understanding of generosity — particularly learning to be generous not just with friends and family but also with strangers, time and attention. Together, Ruth and Deborah explore how generosity shapes faith, forms habits and becomes a powerful outward expression of love.  "What we have is not ours, so it's kind of giving back to Him by blessing His people."  Deborah's favourite Bible verse for Lent  "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:34–35 (NIV)  How you can pray for Deborah:  for focus and freedom from distraction, particularly around time spent on social media  for wisdom and discipline in being generous with her time, especially when God prompts her to reach out to others  that she would recognise when healthy boundaries need to give way to obedience and generosity  that God would continue to strengthen and sustain her as she encourages others through her content and ministry  Related links:  Follow Deborah B on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/deborahbx_/   Final thoughts  Deborah's reflections remind us that generosity is not just about what we give but who we are becoming. Through honest insights about faith, distraction, time and obedience, she shows how small, everyday acts — even when they feel uncomfortable or costly — can shape our character and point others to Christ. As generosity becomes a practice rather than a oneoff gesture, it opens space for transformation, joy and deeper connection with God and those around us.  If the conversation inspired you:  Subscribe by signing up to 40acts, our generosity challenge for Lent. You'll receive a daily email for the remaining days of Lent, each one with a reflection, challenge and prayer prompt. Episode 4: John Reynolds, author and content creator

Welcome to Episode 4 of the 40acts Generosity Challenge Podcast!  In this episode, Ruth is joined by John Reynolds, content creator, speaker, author and former youth pastor, best known for his much-loved family comedy and storytelling across social media. Together with his wife Jade, John shares honest, humorous reflections on family life, disability, faith and generosity.  John talks openly about taking part in 40acts as a family, how the daily prompts have helped him be more intentional and why encouragement has become one of his favourite and most powerful acts of generosity.  "Encouragement is totally free, instantly possible, and genuinely lifechanging for people."  John's favourite verse for Lent  'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' Acts 20:35 (NIV)  See our note on Bible usage: https://www.stewardship.org.uk/bible-usage  How you can pray for John and his family  for energy, strength and reduced pain for Jade, particularly in seasons of low energy  for opportunities to continue sharing faith, humour and encouragement through content and speaking  that John's work would continue to connect with and encourage people who may be struggling  for wisdom and grace as they raise their children to grow in generosity and gratitude   Related links  Follow John on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/johnreynoldscomedy    Final thoughts  John's reflections remind us that generosity doesn't have to be big or costly to be meaningful. Stephen works with local churches in the UK and internationally, using football as a powerful way to build relationships, share faith and disciple new believers.  Stephen reflects on his own faith journey, from growing up in church to walking away as a teenager, and eventually returning to faith through community, mission and football. He also shares honestly about his experience of raising personal support, how his perspective on generosity has changed over time and why he now sees support raising as an invitation into joyful partnership.  This episode will particularly encourage Christian workers, church leaders and anyone exploring how generosity shapes discipleship, community and mission.  This episode explores:  how football can open doors to faith, discipleship and mission  why support raising is about partnership, not pressure  stories of generosity shaped by transformed hearts rather than amounts  the connection between giving, trust and discipleship  "When you give, you hand over control to God… you're saying, 'God, I trust you more than I trust myself.'"  Stephen's favourite Bible verses on generosity:  'All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God's grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them.' Acts 4:32–34 (NIV) Stephen reflects on the picture of the early church sharing their possessions to ensure no one was in need and how generosity fuels both community life and Gospel mission.  See our note on Bible usage: https://www.stewardship.org.uk/bible-usage  How you can pray for Stephen  that teaching on generosity would remain firmly rooted in biblical truth  for churches and Christian organisations across the UK and Europe to grow in generosity  that the church would move with spiritual power marked by open-handed generosity  Related links:  Ambassadors Football: https://gb.ambassadorsfootball.org  The Partnership Collective: https://thepartnershipcollective.eu/  Subscribe to this podcast:  https://www.stewardship.org.uk/subscribe#Podcast  Be the first to receive each month's episode. You'll hear from donors, partners and colleagues about their journey of generosity, exploring why and how they give, the joys and challenges they've experienced along the way, and the difference generosity makes in everyday life.  Sign up to 40acts, our generosity challenge for Lent: https://www.stewardship.org.uk/40acts  There's still time to join in with 40acts this Lent, daily reflections and challenges created with Christian partners and voices from across the Church. Trailer: 40acts Generosity Challenge podcast

Welcome to the 40acts Generosity Challenge, Stewardship's new podcast for Lent. Would you like to do Lent differently this year? This 40-day period of fasting, prayer and reflection leading up to Easter is normally associated with giving stuff up but 40acts, our generosity challenge for Lent, flips that right on its head to focus instead on giving stuff away – that's right, giving stuff away - not just money but also our time and talents. It's a wonderful opportunity to bless people in creative ways big and small and to have lots of joy and fun in the process. Each week from Ash Wednesday onwards throughout Lent, hear from a member of our Stewardship community who is engaged in 40acts. Our guests will share the highs and lows of their 40acts journey so far and how their faith is helping them to keep going. So, please join us for encouragement and inspiration as you embark on your own 40acts journey this Lent season.  Listen to our podcast trailer to find out more and sign up for 40acts to be the first to receive each week's podcast as well as daily resources to support you on your 40acts journey.  Together, let's discover the joy of active generosity this Lent. Jesus is a sustainer of all these things…So, all of this is to do what God has given me for His will. S1 Ep11 Generosity for an eternal vision with Richard Gamble

In this episode of Active Generosity, we are joined by Richard Gamble, Founder of the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer.       Richard Gamble shares the inspiring journey of the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer, a new national monument due to open in 2028, that will aim to make hope visible through stories of answered prayers. He discusses the challenges, milestones and the role of faith and generosity in bringing this vision to life. Richard reflects on his personal faith journey, the importance of stewardship and how he models generosity in various aspects of his life, including his former role as the chaplain of Leicester City Football Club. The conversation emphasises the power of storytelling and community involvement in the project.   "When I think about how God talks about being generous and with the gifts that we have and steward doing them wisely, I think about stories about answered prayer. And I don't necessarily, as most people, go to finance. I believe every time that God answers a prayer in our lives, it's like dynamite in our pocket."  Richard's favourite Bible verses on generosity:   'We have heard it with our ears, O God; our ancestors have told us what you did in their days, in days long ago. With your hand you drove out the nations and planted our ancestors; you crushed the peoples and made our ancestors flourish. It was not by their sword that they won the land, nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for you loved them.' Psalm 44, 1-3.  Richard comments: "I love this scripture because if we give in line with His will, if we give in line with His promptings, then the person who receives knows that it's God's hand at work."  See our note on Bible usage: https://www.stewardship.org.uk/bible-usage  How you can pray:  Richard's request:  pray for protection and strength for him and the team behind the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer, to help them face any opposition and spiritual battles  Please also pray for:  the submission of diverse stories of answered prayer - especially reaching the goal of 250,000 stories by 2028 the monument to become a living testimony to God's faithfulness and leads people to Christ through personal stories the successful raising of £5.7 million needed for operational readiness    Related links:  Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer: https://www.eternalwall.org.uk/  Subscribe to this podcast: https://www.stewardship.org.uk/subscribe#Podcast  Be the first to receive each month's podcast. She also weaves powerful stories of generosity with her faith journey, which includes her experience as an adoptive mum and how she's trying to encourage her two boys to be generous too.   "God designed us to live in that generous flow and we get a sense of wellbeing as a result of that. It's the joy of giving, the joy of giving even when it can feel hard."  Tarn's favourite Bible verse on generosity:   'In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.' 2 Corinthians 8: 2 (NIV)  See our note on Bible usage: https://www.stewardship.org.uk/bible-usage  How you can pray for Tarn:  for her family's plans to foster a teenager for Home for Good and Safe Families, that the generosity of their donors would continue to flow For the life of the Church in the UK:   for young people coming back into a relationship with God that an overflow of God's goodness would be felt across our country as we tackle some really big challenges for more children coming into the care system  that we would be places of welcome as the Church and would open our hearts and our homes to as many children as possible so that we can live out the Gospel message as fully as possible  Related links:  Home for Good and Safe Families: https://safefamilies.uk/who-are-home-for-good/  GoHenry tools for helping kids to learn about good money management: https://www.gohenry.com/  Subscribe to this podcast: https://www.stewardship.org.uk/subscribe#Podcast Be the first to receive each month's podcast. Shownotes Episode 1: Janie Oliver, CEO of Stewardship In this launch episode of Active Generosity, Stewardship's CEO Janie Oliver describes her journey from the tough world of corporate finance to the one of faithful Christian stewardship. Hear from Janie about how her upbringing in South Africa and strong faith have fuelled her passion for generosity and her strong sense of justice. Janie's favourite Bible verse: "Woe to you Pharisees, because you give a tenth of your mint, rue and all other kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practised the latter without leaving the former undone." Luke 11 v42 (NIV) See our note on Bible usage: https://www.stewardship.org.uk/bible-usage How you can pray for Janie: That God will continue to reveal to Janie how to have an increasingly abundant mindset and to break the shackles of a scarcity mindset. In her role as CEO of Stewardship, for God to help her lead this organisation that's dedicated to helping others explore the freedom and joy that comes with leading generous lives in all their fullness.
