The Beard and the Bird: Rockabilly, Western Swing, and the World's Most Joyful Duo. Episode 37

The Beard and the Bird are Jon and Cat, a bi-coastal rockabilly/Western swing duo splitting their time between San Diego and upstate New York. Five songs on Spotify, a YouTube series filming bands in bars across the country, and a brand new single you're going to hear in this episode before anyone else does.We found them the best way possible — Uncle Ben's Remedy shouted them out mid-interview from the floor of a Buffalo record store. In part one, JR plays Gary everything: Ace of Spades, a Star Wars medley, originals, and a song written for a haunted house named Eloise. In part two, Jon and Kat join live to talk about all of it — and debut their new single "Waiting on May" right here, before its release.🔗 Links► The Beard and the Bird: www.thebeardandthebird.com►Their YouTube Channel: @thebeardandthebird► Every band we've featured: https://www.bynhopod.com► Spotify playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1zT8HHOprlVgO78X9rjcQB?si=3db9230a4cf44316► Email: [email protected]► Support & merch: https://www.bynhopod.com (click "Support")0:00 - How Uncle Ben's Remedy Led Us Here1:56 - The Band: The Beard and the Bird4:55 - "Ace of Spades" — Their Version7:22 - Band Bio9:05 - Star Wars Medley13:09 - "Dust If You Must"18:06 - "Take the 219"25:48 - "Thankful"32:00 - "My Dearest Eloise"38:28 - Break: Just Waters1:41:36 - PART 2: Jon and Cat Join Live47:21 - Are You Really This Happy?51:54 - San Diego to Buffalo: The Haunted House Story55:30 - "Dust If You Must": Who Does the Cleaning?56:34 - Punk to Rockabilly: The Pipeline2:01:52 - Covers vs. Originals5:17 - The Most Surprising Covers8:16 - Virginia Is on the Map10:45 - Cat's Rules for Playing a Gig14:13 - WORLD PREMIERE: "Waiting on May"17:29 - Back From the New Song18:34 - The Asylum Street Spankers21:33 - The Murder Face & the Gum Rule25:31 - "Traveling Through Live": How It Works30:02 - Rising Tide: Why They Do All of This37:12 - New Album & Physical Media Plans41:52 - Outro49:39 - POST-CREDITS: "To Be Determined" by the Riveting Tidbits

Blackbeard's Tea Party Has a New Singer. Three for Silver Has a New Album. You Need to Hear Both.

No pre-roll. No credits. Just news. Two bands we've featured on this show have major updates — and we couldn't wait for a regularly scheduled episode. Blackbeard's Tea Party just lost their lead singer of 15 years and made a very AC/DC decision about what to do next. Three for Silver just dropped a new album out of nowhere. Both bands came out swinging.Fifteen minutes. Two bands. MJT: Three Brothers, 20 Years, and the Most Criminally Underplayed Band on Long Island. Episode 37

Three brothers from Long Island. Started playing jazz together when the youngest was eight. Won Amateur Night at the Apollo — multiple times. Opened for Slash and Living Color. Endorsed by Paul Reed Smith. Most played song on Spotify: 15,000 streams. The band is MJT. They were the Michael Jazz Trio until they decided they'd rather be like the Foo Fighters. The jazz crowd was not thrilled. They did it anyway. In part one, JR takes Gary from a 2009 jazz festival video of three kids to the full-volume modern version of Daydreamer — and it's all uphill from there. In part two, Matt and David join live to talk about the pivot, the grind, the Paul Reed Smith story, and what it took to get from the Apollo to the Summer of 99 cruise with Living Color.Their first three EPs are on Bandcamp. Dr. Sure's Unusual Practice: Music for Oddballs and Outsiders — says "NO" to Spotify. Ep: 36

JR found this band using AI. He's going to have to tell them that. They're not going to love it.Dr. Sure's Unusual Practice is a five-piece synth-punk art rock band from Melbourne, Narrm, Australia — and they are exactly as described on their website: rock music for oddballs and outsiders. Henry Rollins put their 2024 album Total Reality in his top 10 of the year. Rolling Stone put it in their top 50. They've toured with King Gizzard, Tropical Fuckstorm, and Cosmic Psychos. And about a month ago, they pulled all their music off every streaming platform — Spotify, Apple Music, all of it — because they refuse to contribute to what they called "the war machine." You can find them at their Bandcamp. You can find them on YouTube. And now you can find them right here.In part one, JR plays Gary four songs cold: No Pigs (their newest single, pure Melbourne punk fury), How Can Anybody Be Sober These Days? (Dead Kennedys meets Devo filtered through Oingo Boingo), Infinite Growth (live from the Remember the Future concert film — better sound than most studio albums), and Keeps Ya Head Up (Gary's choice, brand new for both of them). Then JR plays Dougal's own Facebook video explaining exactly why he pulled the music off Spotify, word for word, no filter. In part two, Dougal Shaw joins live from Melbourne on a Monday morning, trying not to check the news. They get into everything: how JR found the band via AI and why Dougal thinks that's a rare W even though he thinks AI is mostly a catastrophe, what it actually felt like the day he saw Spotify cleared out (a wave of relief), the AI-generated album that appeared under their band name and had to be fought down, the full story of shooting the Escalator Man video — one take, the longest escalator in the Southern Hemisphere, a guy in a suit who called the cops, and no permit — why DIY is becoming DIT (Do It Together) for him, what the new album More Is the Law is about, and whether Americans will ever get to see them live (complicated, for reasons involving visa applications and a very active social media presence).Post-credits: Reality Changer, a brand new song from the upcoming album, performed live at PBS Melbourne.Watch on YouTube for the full video experience — this is a band where the visuals are not an afterthought.🔗 Links► Dr. Sure's Unusual Practice: https://www.drsuresunusualpractice.com/► Dr. Shore's Mart House Records on YouTube: search  @MarthouseRecords  ► Every band we've ever featured: https://bynhopod.com► Our complete Spotify playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1zT8HHOprlVgO78X9rjcQB?si=562b19d1be084be7► Email us: [email protected]► Support the show & grab merch: https://bynhopod.com (click "Support")YouTube Chapters:0:00 - AI Found This Band1:13 - Introducing Dr Sure's Unusual Practice2:27 - They're Off Spotify Now3:46 - Where to Hear Them8:13 - "No Pigs"11:04 - Gary Reacts15:18 - "How Can Anybody Be Sober These Days?"17:45 - Devo / Dead Kennedys / Boingo21:50 - "Escalator Man"24:28 - Gary Reacts Again27:41 - "Infinite Growth" Live33:20 - Why They Left Spotify44:30 - PART 2: Dougal Joins48:43 - How AI Found Them52:30 - AI, Ethics, and War55:58 - Fake AI Album + Spotify Issues1:02:07 - Bandcamp vs Streaming1:12:19 - Will They Tour the US?1:22:15 - From Solo Project to Full Band1:40:34 - New Album Talk1:45:42 - Playing a New Song1:47:49 - "Escalator Man" Video Story2:00:05 - "How Can Anybody Be Sober" Video Story2:08:43 - Gary's Genre Comparison2:59:11 - Outro3:02:28 - Post-Credits: "Reality Changer"Hashtags:#BandsYouveNeverHeardOf #BYNHOPod #DrShoresUnusualPractice #MelbourneMusic #SynthPunk #ArtRock #PunkRock #IndieMusic #HiddenGems #Bandcamp #AntiSpotify #MusicDiscovery #AustralianMusic #Oddballs #VideoPodcast #spotify #spotifyplaylist #freepalestine #nokingsprotest

Freedom Quest: The Hidden 1970s Band at the heart of Debora Masterson's debut Novel. Ep: 35

This one's different. No living room discovery session, no cold open with Gary going in blind. This episode starts with an email — one of the best pitch emails JR has ever received — and ends with a love story that spans 50 years, a religious cult in Hawaii, and a box of two-inch master tapes that almost didn't survive long enough to be heard. The band is Freedom Quest. The album is Freedom Quest, streaming now on Spotify under Craig Ingraham's name. It was recorded in San Diego and Los Angeles in the mid-1970s by a group that included a 17-year-old David Benoit on piano — yes, that David Benoit — and broke up when the leader got busted for cannabis by a roadie working for the feds, right as they were about to shop the record to labels. Seven songs. Never released. The tapes sat in a box for decades. The author is Debora Masterson. She was in that band. She is the person in the orange blouse on the left side of the album photo. She met Craig Ingraham when she was 15 and he was 18, and the two of them — fictionalized as Michael and Grace — are the love story at the center of her debut novel Freedom Quest: A Love Story, releasing April 21st, 2026. Pre-order it now on Amazon. In part one, JR plays Gary three songs from the Freedom Quest album cold while Gary does real-time forensic analysis of whether the recording is actually from the 70s. His verdict: the instrumentation, the frequency response, the truncated highs, the raw guitar tones, the piano-lessons-since-age-six piano solo — all of it tracks. The only thing that throws him is the mix, which is too "rainbow" (his word) for the era. Debora later confirms the tapes were digitized by Sound City Studios in Los Angeles — the one from the Dave Grohl documentary — directly off the two-inch masters. In part two, Debora joins live to explain everything: who was in the band, why Craig was going by "Skeeter," what happened the night he got arrested, how a cult in Hawaii nearly destroyed him, why he was afraid of success even though everyone around him expected him to be a star, how she ended up inheriting hundreds of tapes she hasn't fully heard yet, and why she's currently recording the audiobook of the novel herself while getting over a cold. Freedom Quest: A Love Story releases April 21st. Book signing events in San Diego (April 25th at Folk Arts Rare Records), Los Angeles (May 2nd at The Last Bookstore in Studio City), and Chicago.Watch on YouTube to see album art, Spotify pages, and book cover visuals as the episode unfolds.🔗 Links► Freedom Quest: A Love Story by Debora Masterson — pre-order now on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/-/es/Debora-Masterson-ebook/dp/B0GQ573WV4► Debora Masterson: https://www.deboramasterson.com► Freedom Quest album on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/0DTxcXZdSaAIlFzbFLnJdf?si=NbVed--CT16-TgswY8E6Ow► Every band we've ever featured: https://bynhopod.com► Our complete Spotify playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1zT8HHOprlVgO78X9rjcQB?si=c89844d0fb184d0f► Email us: [email protected]► Support the show & grab merch: https://bynhopod.com (click "Support")0:00 - The Email That Started This1:50 - The Pitch5:53 - What Are We Featuring?7:00 - The Spotify Page9:07 - First Impressions13:15 - "My Time Has Come"18:06 - Gary's Analysis27:50 - "Calling You My Brother"32:53 - "If They Took All My Songs Away"39:40 - Tapes, Sound City & Craig Ingram44:30 - PART 2: Deborah Joins55:00 - The Book and Release Date59:00 - Meeting Craig1:03:37 - What Happened to the Band1:06:54 - David Benoit1:11:30 - The Cult Story1:17:45 - Digitizing the Tapes1:21:00 - The Box of Unheard Music1:25:00 - Book Signings1:28:10 - Audiobook Plans1:37:00 - Wrapping Up1:41:07 - Outro

Bad Mother Nature Is Back: A World Premiere — Four Brand New Songs Before Anyone Else Hears Them Episode 34

Bad Mother Nature became the first band in BYNHOPod history to come back for a second episode — and they didn't come back empty-handed. Corey, Ryan, Axl, and Johnny (yes, the drummer's here this time) join JR and Gary to world premiere four brand new songs from their upcoming EP before they're available anywhere else on the internet. In part one, JR springs all four songs on Gary cold. Midnight Wing kicks things off with the band fully channeling the Scorpions. Wasting My Time is a COVID-era love song with a swing to it. Revisitor pulls a Steely Dan guitar solo out of nowhere and earns the highest praise Gary's given any song on this show. And Keepers of the Cold is an eight-and-a-half-minute prog rock Christmas opus with a whole animated short film concept behind it — funding pending. In part two, all four guys join. They break down how their songs stay personally meaningful while staying open to interpretation, the story of borrowed sleigh bells from a bartending shift, what it's like being a metal punk drummer in this band, and the full story behind Keepers of the Cold and why it's structured like a film score.Head to YouTube (search @bynhopod) to watch this episode with the full song lyrics on screen.Links:Bad Mother Nature: http://www.badmothernature.comEvery band we've ever featured: https://bynhopod.comComplete BYNHOPod playlist (27+ hours): search "Bands You've Never Heard Of" on SpotifyEmail us: [email protected] the show & merch: https://bynhopod.com (click "Support")Spotify Chapters:text0:00 - Intro: Bad Mother Nature Returns — A BYNHOPod First1:51 - The Numbers: Why This Band Keeps Coming Back5:10 - The Setup: Four Songs, World Premiere, Gary Goes In Cold8:37 - The Release Plan & Why This Episode Is Dropping Now10:03 - Watch on YouTube for Lyrics On Screen11:15 - "Midnight Wing" (World Premiere)17:12 - Gary Reacts: Scorpions Energy & the Falsetto Debate24:02 - "Wasting My Time" (World Premiere)28:35 - Gary Reacts: COVID Love Song & Ryan Song Vibes30:49 - "Revisitor" (World Premiere)37:09 - Gary Reacts: Steely Dan Solo & Closing In on Perfect39:47 - "Keepers of the Cold" (World Premiere)49:32 - Gary Saves His Reaction for the Band50:44 - INTERVIEW: Bad Mother Nature + Johnny Joins for the First Time53:00 - Personal vs. Universal: How the Songwriting Works58:07 - The YouTube Comment That Didn't Get "Pleasant Fall"59:00 - "Wasting My Time" Is About Ryan's Wife & COVID1:03:55 - Johnny's Role in the Band1:06:26 - The Sleigh Bells Story: Borrowed From a Bar the Night Before Recording1:09:03 - "Keepers of the Cold" Is a Christmas Song1:10:08 - Gary Reveals His Take: 1974 Prog Rock Christmas Opus1:13:54 - The Prog Influences: Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull & Rainbow1:15:12 - The Animated Short Film That Doesn't Exist Yet (Animators Needed)1:28:04 - Johnny: Metal Drummer in a Prog Rock Band1:32:01 - The Symbiosis: How Johnny & the Band Pull Each Other Forward1:57:32 - Outro, Links & How to Support the Show

Our Top 10 Songs: The Best of Year One on Bands You've Never Heard Of. Ep: 33

No new band this week. Instead, JR and Gary each pick their five favorite songs from the first year of Bands You've Never Heard Of — 30 bands in — and make the case for why these songs have stuck with them long past the episode recordings.JR's picks: Leather and Pearls by Room for Zero, Keeps the Candy Tight by Cowboy Destroy, Stay Away by Inside the Trojan Horse, Waves by Banana Gun (JR is their #3 listener in the world per Spotify Wrapped), A Thousand Days by Bad Mother Nature, and Bone Cracker Acetates by Geese. Gary's picks: Voicemail by The Anti-Groupies, Let's Break Up Again by Joan Smith and the Jane Does, Ladybug by The Psychedelics, and the song that wraps the whole Southern California thread into one — The Reckless. They play clips from all ten, argue about chord progressions and the mayor of Gary, Indiana, and rapid-fire the honorable mentions: England Bound by Blackbeard's Tea Party, Dirty 20 by Boy Bandicoot, Social Battery by The Anti-Groupies, Dogs by Inside the Trojan Horse, 405 by Hassan and the Unseen, Long for Glencoe by White Noise, and Gary's boys in 434 Stuck Out (live at the Foundry at Basic City in Waynesboro, VA — June 26).A brand new top 10 playlist with all of these songs is linked from bynhopod.com. Uncle Ben's Remedy: Honky-Tonk Boogie, Northern Appalachia & "All Hat No Cattle" from Western New York Ep 32

JR kicks this one off differently — no intro, no bio, no warning. He just lets Uncle Ben's Remedy walk through the door and introduce themselves with "Jesus Never Took the Wheel." Gary's first words: "I think they're the remedy for sobriety." And we're off.Uncle Ben's Remedy is a five-piece roots rock band out of Western New York who sound like they were raised somewhere between a honky-tonk and a bluegrass festival in the Allegheny hills. Boogie-woogie piano, chicken-pickin' guitar, pedal steel, fiddle, and some of the most inventive harmonic choices Gary has heard from a band playing this kind of music. In part one, JR walks Gary through the full range — from tearjerkers like Gone Home and Black Jacket to absolute floor-stompers like Pedal to the Metal and All Hat No Cattle. In part two, Ben and Sean join from Revolver Records in Buffalo (mid-session, phone barely charged, Josh the drummer wandering in from downstairs) to talk about what it means to be a Western New York band that sounds like the South, how Sean's master's degree in music is secretly responsible for all those chord progressions, who sings that haunting harmony on Gone Home, and why the best divorce song in Buffalo was recorded with the songwriter's wife.Head to YouTube (search @bynhopod) to watch with full lyrics on screen.Links:Uncle Ben's Remedy: https://www.unclebensremedy.comEvery band we've ever featured: https://bynhopod.comComplete BYNHOPod playlist: search "Bands You've Never Heard Of" on SpotifyEmail us: [email protected] the show & merch: https://bynhopod.com (click "Support")Spotify Chapters:0:00 - Cold Open: Uncle Ben's Remedy Introduce Themselves4:01 - Welcome + Gary's First Take: "Remedy for Sobriety"5:32 - Band Bio: Western New York, Southern Boogie & a School Bus Tour11:15 - "Paradise" — The Mustard and the Mayonnaise15:02 - Gary Reacts: Appalachian Vibes & That Chorus Transition18:08 - "Drink to Remember" — Instant Foot-Stomper20:01 - Gary Reacts: Hackensaw Boys Energy21:00 - "Hard Times"25:33 - Gary Reacts: Better Live, Still Inventive27:40 - "Gone Home" — Pedal Steel & a Haunting Harmony30:07 - Gary Reacts: Who Is Singing That Harmony?34:28 - "Black Jacket" — Ray Manzarek on an Old Upright37:02 - Gary Reacts: No Right to Be This Thoughtful39:20 - "Pedal to the Metal" — Their First Song Ever44:23 - "Never Get Caught" — Off the 2024 Album47:37 - Gary Reacts: Too Many Instruments for 5 Guys49:00 - "All Hat No Cattle" — Their Biggest Song52:11 - Ben's Shorts & Crocs: The Aesthetic Checks Out55:28 - INTERVIEW: Ben & Sean Join from Revolver Records in Buffalo1:00:10 - Have They Toured Beyond the Northeast?1:01:08 - Album #7 in 2026: What's Different?1:03:12 - Five Guys, Ten Instruments: How?1:06:09 - Josh the Drummer Shows Up From Downstairs1:07:14 - Set Lists: Bangers vs. Ballads Live1:09:23 - Harmony's Real Name Is Harmony (Sister's Named Pearl)1:10:01 - The Western New York Twang: Fake or Natural?1:13:00 - Country? Guy Collins: Blues, Folk & Global Vagabonding from South Africa to Norway Episode 31

Guy Collins is a South African-born, Norway-based guitarist and songwriter blending Delta Blues, African roots, and global folk — and he joins JR and Gary live for this episode of Bands You've Never Heard Of.Full Description:JR introduces Gary to Guy Collins — a guitarist, singer, and songwriter who has spent 35 years blending Delta Blues, African roots, Zulu Maskandi, Southern Gospel, and roots reggae into something entirely his own. From the raw two-piece blues of Mean Black Mamba to the Beck-flavored alter ego Jeremiah Johnson to the stirring "Long Way to Freedom," Guy's music spans continents and defies every category you try to put it in.In the first half, JR walks through Guy's catalog song by song, digging into how recordings made in Helsinki lofts, Cape Town living rooms, and under Norwegian staircases shaped a sound that's gritty, warm, and deeply human. In the second half, Guy joins live from Norway to talk growing up during apartheid, leaving South Africa for love, playing the blues as an outsider, his Jeremiah Johnson alter ego, and what's coming next — including a big show at the Norton Blues Festival.Links from the show:More about the podcast & every band we've featured: https://bynhopod.comSupport the show & grab merch: https://bynhopod.com (click "Support")Our running Spotify playlist: search "Bands You've Never Heard Of" on SpotifyEmail us your band suggestions: [email protected]

You’ll hear how JR discovered them through White Noise at Edinburgh’s Sneaky Pete’s, why “Chicken on a Raft” hooked him instantly, and what makes originals like “I Am People” and “England Bound” hit so hard.In the second half of the episode, Blackbeard’s Tea Party join the show to talk about their DIY videos, their love of outlandish outfits and mirrorball helmets, navigating the English vs. Scottish folk scenes, and writing protest songs that still feel like a party.Links from the show:Blackbeards Tea PartyMore about the podcast: https://bynhopod.comEmail us your band suggestions: [email protected] running Spotify playlist of every band we’ve featured: open Spotify and search for “Bands You’ve Never Heard Of” to follow the playlist.00:00 - Intro &Discovering Blackbeard's Tea Party00:00 - Meet theBand00:00 -"Chicken on a Raft" — Cyril Tawney's Original00:00 - Early BTPVersion (2011) & Percussion Evolution00:00 -"Chicken on a Raft" Official Video00:00 - Live at theCrescent: "Jim Jones"00:00 - "I AmPeople" — Music Video & Reactions00:00 - BandComparisons & Why They're Not Huge Yet00:00 - DIY Videos,Website Deep Dive & "England Bound"00:00 - Band Bio& Transition to Part 200:00 - INTERVIEW:Blackbeard's Tea Party Joins the Show00:00 - White Noise,Sneaky Pete's & Breaking Into Scotland00:00 - WritingOriginal Songs & What "England Bound" Means00:00 - CyrilTawney, Duty vs. Catharsis & Folk Tradition00:00 - DIY Spirit,Punk Attitude & Band Influences00:00 - The DrumsStory & the Mirrorball Helmet00:00 - Folk RockGlam Pirates & the Politics of Their Music00:00 - New AlbumTeaser, Merch & Edinburgh Fringe00:00 - How Did TheyGet Their Name?00:00 - Outro &Show Links

#28: 434 | The Marine Corps Cadence turned "Rock and Roll Sermon"

What happens when you mix Marine Corps drill cadence with heavy guitar riffs and a "no fads" attitude? You get 434, a band that is reclaiming the raw energy of rock and roll. And we have some serious role reversal going on in this one — Gary introduces JR to a new band he's never heard of (sort of)!In Part 2 of our feature on 434, we sit down with Mike and Scott to discuss their Central Virginia roots, why they chose a "number name," and the truth behind those Clutch comparisons. From the "whiskey fist" shock value to their "Rock and Roll Sermon" live shows, we dive deep into how this band stays authentic in a world of recyclable radio hits.Check out 434's music and tour dates: www.434band.comIf you love discovering bands you've never heard of, follow the show and help us turn these "unknowns" into legends.Follow BYNHOPOD:Instagram: @BYNHOPODWebsite: www.bynhopod.comListen to the full Bands You've Never Heard Of playlist on Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1zT8HHOprlVgO78X9rjcQBEmail us: [email protected] Guide:0:00 - Marine Corps Cadence & The "Ready to Fight" Intro3:15 - Meet Mike and Scott of 4345:30 - "Full Disclosure": Gary's connection to the band8:45 - Why "434"? #27: Joudy - NYC based Venezuelan Shoegaze

Joudy is a three-piece New York City based Shoegaze, heavy grungy rock band originally from Venezuela. They were kind of a big deal in Venezuela before they had to flee the country in the late 2010s, for obvious reasons. They reunited here in the states and continued making music in a whole new place, with new politics, and a new mindset. JR and Gary explore several of their songs in preparation for the big interview. And in the second half of today's show, you get to meet Diego Ramirez, the lead singer and guitarist. We interviewed Diego over Zoom from his home in NYC. Diego even had his video producer, Gabriel there to join in the conversation.Joudy on BandCamp: https://joudyjoudyjoudy.bandcamp.com/album/destroy-all-monsterswww.bynhopod.comwww.youtube.com/@bynhopodBands You've never Heard of - The Complete Playlisthttps://open.spotify.com/playlist/1zT8HHOprlVgO78X9rjcQB?si=2e6da457a471406bEmail us here: [email protected]#shoegaze #grunge #nyc #venezuela #maduro #bethesdafountain #centralpark

#24: Joan Smith and The Jane Does

Don't let the name fool you, Joan Smith and The Jane Does are somebody. They are coming on strong in the Canadian Rock scene, based out of Toronto. Jane's vocals, dirty guitar, along with Tom's edge of insanity lead guitar bring to life a sound that is both 90's alternative rock and as fresh as the falling snow. If you are a fan of Nirvana, Queens of The Stone Age, Rage Against the Machine, or just good solid rock, you are going to love JSATJD.  And in the second half of today's show, you get to meet Joan and Tom, the heart and soul of the band. #21: Boy Bandicoot, and Happy New Year!!!

For our final show of 2025 we feature Boy Bandicoot, an Indie Alt-rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio. We love their melodies combined with some really deep, meaningful lyrics right alongside glorious nonsense. It's retro, it's new, it's damn fantastic. Catchy as hell, Boy Bandicoot is destined to be much bigger than they are right now. And with a new LP on the horizon, BB is about to blow up! We consider ourselves quite fortunate to have the pleasure of discovering Boy Bandicoot at this early stage in their career, and to be able to interview Avery Benter for this show was every bit as fun as listening to his music. You may have heard of the NYC based Geese, but what about this little trio from Lancashire England? Probably not. JR found them from an NPR Music article that mentioned the much bigger and more well known Geese, but it was these Geese from the UK that caught his attention.  They are totally cool with not being super well known, cuz that means work, and not the fun music making kind of work.  Does www.adventurescience.uk work properly yet?
