In this podcast  we examine another of that series of words that a significant percentage of the population would rather not hear – commitment.  Join me to unpack this uncomfortable word and it’s implications for all of us.

Humility is one of those uncomfortable words we’d rather not hear. The problem is not our intellectual understanding of the idea, the problem raises its head in the personal application — when we think of it as applying to us. It’s one thing to talk about the idea at arms length, and it’s quite another to apply it to ourselves. That’s when it gets uncomfortable.

Throughout the history of mankind, successful people have been disciplined people. At some point in their development, they have discovered the power that lies in discipline. And they chose, with an act of willfulness and intentionality, to pursue disciplines. As a result, they accomplish, they achieve, and they improve. They rise above the pack on the basis of the strength of their wills and their ability to discipline themselves to do the right things, consistently, methodically and regularly.

There are a number of words that make most of us uncomfortable. In this first of series, we look at one: Personal responsibility. Unpack this concept with us.

The culture wars are intensifying, and the culture in sliding dark-ward. One of the contributors to that slide is the apathy of Christian business people, who have been content to compartmentalize their Christianity and their business.

One of Christianity’s greatest failures has been the separation of the church from the world of business and commerce – acting on the premise that there are some things which are secular, and others which are sacred. Christian companies and their owners and executives must share some of the blame, as they have been comfortable following the worldly approach to business.

Our perspectives shape our behavior and set our character. We can change our perspectives and thereby change our lives and the results we gain.

What do you do when a fellow Christian owes you money and can’t or won’t repay it?  Or, when a Christian owned business is behind on their payments to you? It is difficult situation, but there is some Biblical guidance available.

Too many Christian business people look outside their careers and their businesses for a place or a work that allows them to be significant. This search for something outside of themselves keeps them focused in the wrong place. The real source of significance is much closer to home.
