By the time investigators connected 50-year-old Richard Rogers to the murders of four middle-aged gay and bisexual men whose remains were discovered in garbage bags between 1991 and 1993, it had been nearly three decades since Richard had first been acquitted of murder after claiming self-defense. In the final part of our series on Amelia Dyer, we’ll see how the infamous baby farmer changed her business practices bytaking in both unwanted babies and older children, killing them via strangulation, and disposing of their bodies herself. With the Poor Law Amendment Act of 1834 having essentially lifted any financial obligation from the father, single mothers in Victorian England often turned to baby farmers. These agents would put their babies up for fostering or adoption for a fee. While some truly helped the children that came into their care, others realized that murder was the best way to maximize their profits. One such baby farmer was a nurse named Amelia Dyer. We’re back with part two of our theme on female killer nurses with Jeanine Hannah, a.k.a. Jeannie Miata and Julie Kocian. With her many names, Jeanine managed to continue caring for elderly patients in spite of a restriction and a prior conviction of theft in the first degree. However, stealing from patients was far from her worst crime. After she absconded from Oregon, Jeanine faced charges of theft once more in Texas. This time, while she was awaiting a court appearance, Jeanine was arrested and indicted in October 2004 for murdering the patient she had stolen from, Margaret Bradley, two and a half years earlier. On the morning of December 26, 1997, Nick Hacheney left his home in Bremerton, Washington, to go on a duck hunting trip. In the early evening of July 29, 2008, officers with the Mobile County Police Department entered traveling preacher Anthony Hopkins’ home on Rylands Street through the unlocked back door. The house was quiet and exceptionally tidy. Officers made their way through the home until they stopped in front of a door leading to the utility room. Around 9:30 p.m. on November 1, 1994, Rabbi Fred Neulander walked into the living room of his Cherry Hill, New Jersey home and discovered his wife, 52-year-old Carol Neulander, lying on the floor. She was badly injured, and the ground around her was covered with blood. Fred called 911, but the woman with whom he had three children wouldn’t live to celebrate their 29th wedding anniversary in only eight weeks’ time. In February 1991, 22-year-old Beverley Allitt started her first job as a children’s nurse at Lincolnshire’s Grantham and Kesteven Hospital. After less than a week in her new role, 7-week-old Liam Taylor was being treated on the children’s ward for a chest infection. He recovered from two respiratory emergencies, but his luck ran out when he was on his own with Beverley. Even though the attending team did their best to save Liam, he later died from a heart attack. He was to become the first of Beverley’s young victims. Police arrived at the two-story home in quiet Markham, Ontario on November 8, 2010, in response to 24-year-old Jennifer Pan’s 911 call in which she told the dispatcher that three men had broken into her home and shot her parents, Hann and Bich Pan. Police and ambulance services pulled up to find a bloodied Hann in the front yard. Upon entering the home, they discovered Jennifer tied to the upstairs banister, apparently uninjured, but Bich was found in the basement, dead from multiple gunshots. São Paulo, Brazil’s largest city, experienced plenty of crime in 2002. With many citizens living in poverty and struggling to survive, police were used to being called to crime scenes in the poorer neighborhoods. However, getting called to the wealthy area of Campo Belo was not the norm. Entering the residence, police found that the rooms on the lower level largely appeared undisturbed, except for the office, where it looked like items had been strewn about. First, when Reid and Miriam Beck’s son, Justin, visits their home on January 17, 2023, because he hadn’t talked to his parents in a few days, his sister, Verity, who is also living in the house, tells him things have “been bad.” Justin can see that when he notices what looks like a body covered with a sheet and a chainsaw nearby. Second, local villagers in Bawan Kheri, in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, heard crying and pleading late in the evening of April 15, 2008. After making their way to the home, they noticed the patriarch of the family deceased and on the floor.
