FRENCH REGULATOR FINES CNEWS €100,000 FOR ANTI-MUSLIM AND REMARKS
France’s broadcast regulator Arcom has issued €100,000 in fines against CNews over two live summer 2025 editions of “L’Heure des Pros 2 Été” that the regulator said could encourage discriminatory behavior. Arcom cited remarks that portrayed Algerians as a collective public-safety threat and comments that generalized about Palestinians after Oct. 7, 2023, alongside on-air suspicion directed at airport workers described as visibly Muslim, including insinuations about “radicalisation.” The rulings, dated Feb. 5, 2026 and later published, split the penalties into €25,000 for the Aug. 8 segment and €75,000 for the Aug. 12 segment. Arcom emphasized that live debate formats do not remove a broadcaster’s duty to maintain editorial control and to challenge or moderate potentially harmful claims in real time. The fines are directed to France’s national cinema and moving image center, the CNC. This report explains what is confirmed in the decisions and why the case matters for Muslims and North African communities in France. It remains unclear whether CNews will appeal or what changes it will make.

WIDESPREAD ARMY INVASIONS AND ABDUCTIONS IN PALESTINE
Israeli forces carried out overnight raids across the occupied West Bank on February 4, with Palestinian officials and local media reporting arrests in areas including Nablus and nearby towns, as well as parts of Jenin, Tulkarm, Bethlehem, Hebron, Ramallah and Tubas. In occupied Jerusalem, Palestinian officials said an Al-Aqsa Mosque guard, Abdul Rahman al-Sharif, was detained after a home raid, while bans and summonses affecting mosque-linked figures were reported to be expanding ahead of Ramadan. The Palestinian Education Ministry said Israeli forces stormed Al-Tahaddi School in Khirbet Ibziq in the Jordan Valley area, seizing equipment and damaging water, electricity and internet networks, and blocking access to the campus. Israel has said many West Bank operations target militant infrastructure and address security threats, but the UN human rights office has warned that recent operations and settlement-related moves may accelerate forced displacement and undermine Palestinian self-determination. Some details in local reporting, including the scale of property damage and aspects of a demolition order linked to allegations in Hebron, were not independently verified in the accounts cited.

NYC MAYOR CITES PROPHET MUHAMMAD TO CALL FOR JUSTICE FOR IMMIGRANTS
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has put US immigration in focus after referencing the Hijrah and the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him) while discussing how societies treat migrants at the city’s Interfaith Breakfast at the New York Public Library. City documents and local reporting say his administration signed Executive Order 13, directing agencies to protect information gathered for city services and not share it with federal immigration authorities unless legally required, and requiring a judicial warrant before federal agents can enter city property such as schools, shelters, hospitals, and parking facilities. Supporters say the approach helps residents report crime and access services without fear, while the Department of Homeland Security has criticized sanctuary policies as a public-safety risk. Some international coverage has inconsistently described Mamdani’s role; the city’s official releases identify him as mayor and show his signature on the order under that title. This video breaks down what’s confirmed, what’s contested, and what the order could mean for immigrant and Muslim communities.

GIRLS ALLEGEDLY BEATEN, DENIED ENTRY INTO CLASS FOR NOT REMOVING HIJAB
Authorities in India’s Jharkhand state have ordered an inquiry after Muslim schoolgirls at a government-run girls’ school in Chatra district alleged they were denied entry to class and assaulted for refusing to remove their hijab. Local reports say the students and parents filed a written complaint claiming the principal gave verbal instructions against wearing a hijab or even a dupatta on school premises, and that the girls were pressured to remove coverings and threatened with expulsion if they protested. The principal has denied the allegations, saying the school dress code applies to all students, and education officials said they had not received similar complaints during inspections. After the incident, the girls went with their parents to the district hospital for a medical check, where a doctor reportedly found no visible marks of beating. Officials say they will speak with students, teachers, and parents and take action if wrongdoing is found. What’s confirmed is the inquiry and the competing claims; what remains disputed is whether force was used, whether an assault occurred, and whether the school’s actions amounted to discrimination or a contested dress code enforcement.

POLICE PEPPER SPRAY PROTESTERS AS ISRAELI PRESIDENT VISITS SYDNEY
Police in Australia used pepper spray and made arrests at a Sydney rally opposing the visit of Israeli President Isaac Herzog, after New South Wales Police said some protesters attempted to march despite temporary restrictions linked to expanded “major event” powers. Authorities said 27 people were arrested and alleged officers were assaulted, while medics treated demonstrators affected by pepper spray. Organisers and speakers said the protest was about Gaza and political accountability, while police leadership argued that rhetoric encouraged an unlawful march in a heightened-security setting for an internationally protected guest. Several lawmakers raised concerns about police conduct, including allegations of excessive force and claims a MP was assaulted; police disputed aspects of those criticisms. The confrontation followed a court decision rejecting a challenge to the expanded powers, intensifying debate over protest rights, public order policing, and civil liberties in New South Wales. Reporting also described police disrupting a small group of Muslim men during prayer, a detail that has resonated strongly in Muslim communities. Key facts are confirmed by police statements and multiple media reports, while specific allegations about individual actions remain disputed.

PALESTINE MOSQUE VANDALISED BY ISRAELI SETTLERS
Israeli police say they are searching for suspects after damage was reported inside a mosque near Al-Minya, close to Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, where holy Islamic books were set on fire. Palestinian local officials and regional outlets blamed Israeli settlers, saying the mosque was broken into on Sunday night, February 8, with copies of the Qur’an burned or damaged, carpets stolen, and electrical wiring cut. Israeli media reports, citing police, said officers from the Etzion station and Border Police were deployed and that an investigation is underway, but also described the site as an “abandoned” mosque — a claim Palestinian accounts dispute, insisting the mosque was furnished and connected to electricity. No injuries were reported. The incident has intensified fears among Palestinians about community safety and the protection of worship sites, as the United Nations and humanitarian monitors warn of rising displacement and protection risks in parts of the West Bank linked to settler violence and access restrictions. While Israeli authorities investigate, key details — including who carried out the attack and whether the mosque was in active use — remain disputed or unclear.

MUSLIM BEATEN BRUTALLY AND FORCED TO CLEAN SWERAGE BY COW VIGILANTS
A viral video circulating on X and Instagram has triggered outrage and calls for investigation in India after posts claimed a Muslim man in Odisha was assaulted and publicly humiliated by men described online as self-styled cow vigilantes. The footage appears to show the man being knocked down, beaten, and forced toward a sewage or drainage area while being taunted, but key details remain disputed or unconfirmed from publicly available reporting, including the exact location, the date, and the identities of those involved. Some posts name the victim and place the incident in Khordha district, Odisha, yet those details have not been independently verified by major newsrooms and no widely reported official police briefing was immediately available at the time of reporting. The clip has reignited concerns about mob violence, communal intimidation, and minority community safety, especially in cases linked to cattle transport and “cow protection” vigilantism. The report also notes earlier Odisha incidents reported in 2025 and the wider accountability debate, including Supreme Court guidance on preventing and investigating mob violence and the importance of witness protection and transparent legal action.

MUSLIM TEACHER SUSPENDED AFTER HINDU GROUPS OBJECT TO QURAN VERSE IN SCHOOL
A government school in Sambhal district, Uttar Pradesh, is under official inquiry after protests over posters that reportedly included Quranic verses displayed on school premises. Education officials say the school principal, Pushpa Rani, and a teacher, Mohammad Nazim, were suspended while the Basic Education Department investigates what happened at an upper primary school in Nagla Purva village in the Chandausi tehsil area. Reports say members of the VHP and Bajrang Dal objected to the posters and alleged the school was being used to promote religious teaching, along with claims about portraits of national leaders being removed or set aside. Those allegations have been reported but remain disputed and have not been confirmed by an official inquiry finding. Media accounts also describe videos circulating online showing activists questioning students inside classrooms, with students reportedly saying they were not being forced to pray. The inquiry’s conclusions will be key to understanding whether any rules were violated, how decisions were made, and whether due process is being followed for staff and students in a sensitive community dispute.

INDIAN COURT SUMMONS POLICEMEN IN 2020 ANTI-MUSLIM MASSACRE
A court in India has summoned two Delhi Police personnel to appear on February 24, 2026, in connection with the death of a Muslim man, Faizan, whose assault during the February 2020 violence in northeast Delhi was captured in a widely circulated video. Reports say the Central Bureau of Investigation filed a charge sheet after the Delhi High Court transferred the probe from Delhi Police in 2024, citing serious concerns about the earlier investigation. The charge sheet alleges offenses including culpable homicide not amounting to murder and causing hurt, and reporting indicates a murder charge was not retained, a point that may be contested as proceedings continue. The case is among the most closely watched riot accountability matters linked to the 2020 Delhi riots, which left at least 53 dead and displaced families in areas with large Muslim populations. This video breaks down what is confirmed, what remains unclear pending court scrutiny, and why the legal process matters for community safety, human rights, and public trust in criminal justice in India.

MUSLIM GROUP PUTS DOWN DEPOSIT TO BUY LONDON SYNAGOGUE
In this video we explain the United Kingdom story in East London: Ashaadibi Education & Cultural Centre, a Muslim charity in Tower Hamlets, says it has paid a deposit to secure a contract to buy the East London Central Synagogue on Nelson Street. The building was due to be sold at auction with a guide price of about £2 million before the listing showed it was sold prior. Reporting cites a deposit of roughly £235,000–£250,000 as the charity fundraises to complete the purchase and renovate the site, with plans to convert the disused synagogue into a mosque, community hub and education centre. We reference The Jewish Chronicle, the Acuitus auction listing, and Charity Commission records, and note the sale was on behalf of the Federation of Synagogues. We break down what’s confirmed, what’s disputed, and why it matters for Jewish heritage, Muslim community space, planning rules, and interfaith relations in London. Comment: how should heritage protection and community needs be balanced?
