Delivered: A Birth Mini Series
by Kecia Sheahan
A podcast style series that is dedicated to simply sharing a variety of real and beautiful birth stories. The goal of this project is to help moms-to-be prepare for the birth experience by hearing different, special, unexpected, unplanned, and ultimately miraculous ways our babies enter the world directly from other women. There is power (and comfort!) in knowledge, and the women I get to speak with have so much to share!Disclaimer: I am not technically labeling this a 'positive' birth story podcast because I will be sharing some harder stories that still have a beautiful ending.

Episode Four: Brenna Starrs
Today's episode is a very honest conversation with Brenna Starrs, a mom of one beautiful little girl and small business owner, who did NOT have the picture perfect pregnancy, birth, or postpartum experience that floods our social channels. Her story is important because it highlights some experiences that many women have but don't get to speak about -- pregnancy after loss, hyperemesis gravidarium, and perinatal and postpartum anxiety and depression. In the end she is living with her dream child, but her road to meet her was not what she envisioned. Thank you Brenna, for your time and sharing so openly. Enjoy this episode! season finale: malcom william sheahan
This is it! My home birth story of my second son, Malcom, and the final episode of Delivered season one. I have absolutely loved doing this project -- learning from the women who had the courage to come on and share, hearing all kinds of birth stories, and creating a safe space for all things pregnancy and birth. I am so happy and grateful to have had the birth experience I did, and I wouldn't have had the information, bravery, and confidence to do it without the conversations I had over the past 9 months. So again, a sincere thank you to everyone who has participated and listened. Mac entered the world so smoothly, and has been a calm and sweet little boy ever since. He was an instant fit within our family, and I love watching him grow. episode fourteen: welcome HOME
Featuring Ann Morris, birth & postpartum doula and birth educator currently serving the Atlanta area, sharing her own birth story of her second son, Maverick. It was so interesting cool to hear the birth story from the lens of a birth worker! There's obviously a sense of confidence and awareness after taking the time to learn about pregnancy, birth, and postpartum the way a trained doula does. Ann shares that she has attended somewhere around 70 births in her career so far, and I am just so grateful that she shared her own story with us here on Delivered. For anyone considering a home birth, or just looking for ways to enhance their birthing experience, whatever it looks like -- this is a great episode to tune into. Thank you so much Ann! episode thirteen: of course this is you
Featuring Vanessa Wilkerson telling the birth story of her first born daughter, Vince. Vanessa and I talk about the importance of being prepared for your experience -- whatever that means for YOU -- her cousin, a lactation consultant, was her biggest resource in feeling like she knew what to expect leading up to her induction. You can follow her cousin Olivia at @MilkDrunkMama for helpful guidance and resources on lactation. You can just tell in the way she speaks about her birth experience that Vanessa found a level of acceptance and openness that ultimately lead to a very blissful experience for her overall. We love to hear that! We talk educating our partners and ourselves, induction processes, epidurals, and even clots postpartum! Thank you so much to Vanessa, and I hope you love this episode. episode twelve: life got substantially better
Featuring Haley Comrie sharing the unmedicated birth story of her first born daughter, Capri. Haley brings such a fun sense of humor to her journey to giving birth the way she intended, and I loved getting to hear her story after she let me know that she listened to Natalie Guentzel's episode ON her due date. HOW COOL IS THAT!? Haley is a great example of controlling what you can, and letting some of the smaller details go when everything is happening. Join us this episode for conversation on coping mechanisms for labor, exclusively pumping, lip and tongue ties, and of course some hilarious moments during the birth of her beautiful daughter. episode 11: worth the wait
Featuring Lexi Oliver, my friend and former D1 soccer teammate, sharing the birth story of her firstborn daughter, Shiloh. I share in the intro that her episode is ... a lot. She is so openly honest about a lot of different aspects that caused fear within her pregnancy and into birth, and I think it's so important to hear. With that said, I also want to give fair warning to those of you who may be already having some anxiety within their own pregnancies -- all experiences are different and all are valuable! I think there's so much to gain from hearing the ins and outs of Lexi's experience. Ultimately, she and her daughter were healthy and happy, and that's the absolute best ending to a pretty chaotic lead up to birth! We share a lot of laughs and she shares some amazing realizations about postpartum healing that I think every one of us can relate to. Thank you so much Lexi! Podcast theme music by Transistor.fm. episode ten: happy birthday to me!
Featuring Jana Gray, and mother of three, telling the positive, yet chaotic, birth story of her second born, sunny side up, son Lucas.Jana's youngest child in 10 years old, and we reflected on how birth options have changed since she had her birthing experiences. We talk about birth nuances, the transitional phase from one child to two, and allowing people in when motherhood is simply kicking your ass. The story she tells has humor, chaos, and a lot of maternal insight that I think everyone listening will enjoy and be able to apply to their own life/experiences. episode nine: you know you best
Featuring Devyn Dodero, host of the Breaking The Ice podcast, and mother of two telling BOTH of her birth stories -- her firstborn son Crosby and her daughter Skylar. Devyn gave birth twice abroad, once in Austria and then again in France where her husband played hockey at the time. We reminisce on the stressors and anxieties that accompany first pregnancies (let alone those taking place in the early 2020's!) and also discuss how important it is to advocate for yourself throughout the entirety of the pregnancy and birth experience. It was a joy chatting with Devyn and hearing her perspective on birth and motherhood, I hope you enjoy! Podcast theme music by Transistor.fm. Learn how to start a podcast here.

episode 8: no two births are alike
Featuring Sydney Nestrasil sharing the birth stories of both her son and her daughter, Forrest & Josie. This was the first recorded episode in 2024! I am so happy and excited to be getting the feedback I am getting around these conversations, and having the ability to continue sharing these amazing stories. Sydney shares BOTH of her birth stories from overseas, Czech Republic to be more precise, and also goes further in sharing some of her struggles and triumphs as a new mom, and a mom of two under two in a country that is home to her husband and slowly becoming home to her. I loved this conversation because I felt like Sydney was an open book and all of you listening are better off for it! Enjoy! Podcast theme music by Transistor.fm. Learn how to start a podcast here.

episode seven: solo slater episode
Featuring yours truly sharing the birth story of our first born son, Slater. I had a lot of fun strolling down memory lane, reminiscing about my first pregnancy and my birth experience...especially as I experience how different a second pregnancy can truly be! I tried to keep it light and fun, while also sharing some things that worked for me and some things that I hope to do differently this time around. At the end of this episode I do a Q+A with my husband for a little male perspective on the birth experience. It was so fun to talk about this with him, and I am so thankful that he and I get to do this again :) Podcast theme music by Transistor.fm. Learn how to start a podcast here.

episode six: the spengler baby
Featuring Suzy Emmerton sharing the birth story of her first born daughter, Fiona. This episode is the first story on Delivered from overseas -- a very common destination for hockey families at some point in their careers, thus a very relevant story to hear! Both of Suzy's children were born in Switzerland, and she moved there amidst her first pregnancy...talk about huge changes all at once! Unlike a lot of my guests, Suzy preferred a less is more approach when it came to birth prep, and it turns out that not having a set-in-stone plan benefitted her in the long (labor) run. I am so proud of Suzy for sharing what she does because it takes a lot of guts to do this, and I appreciate her and all of my guests so much! Enjoy! Podcast theme music by Transistor.fm. episode three: keep your eye on the prize
Featuring Katie Milne sharing the birth story of her first born son, Nash. I feel the need to add a disclaimer that this is a story that includes an emergent c-section to safely deliver baby Nash. However, Katie shares so many things that other c-section moms can relate to and women preparing for birth can benefit from -- most importantly, that holding her baby in her arms after it all was STILL the most magical moment in her life.
