Disciples Church Sermons
by Disciples Church Springfield
Disciples Church Springfield is an independent, evangelical church, keen to impact the greater Springfield area with the grace of the Gospel. Our Lead Pastor is Callum Mansfield. Our vision is that every member of the Church will know Jesus enough to follow Him, love God enough to obey Him, love people enough to serve them, trust the Father enough to risk everything to advance His kingdom, and trust the Holy Spirit enough to let Him change them and use them for His glory. Genealogies (Gen 5:1-4)
Genesis 5 isn’t just a list of names - it’s a family line of promise. While Cain’s line shows the spread of sin and death, this genealogy shows who belongs to God’s blessing. The world asks for your résumé, but God asks whose family you belong to - and in Jesus, that changes everything.

Thinking Generationally (Gen 5:1a)
This Sunday, we begin to walk through Genesis 5 where we see that gospel frees us from living small, immediate, self-contained lives. How? Because in Jesus our story is caught up into God’s much bigger story - and when you see him for who he is, you can’t help but live with a generational perspective.

Arise my soul
This Sunday, we step into Acts 2:14–41 as Peter proclaims the risen Jesus - and hearts are cut to the core as the call to repent and rise to new life goes out. As the last sermon in our ARISE series, we’ll see how the resurrection doesn’t just wake a crowd, but awakens the soul.
-

Filled with the Spirit
This Sunday, in our ARISE series, we move from resurrection to outpouring as we see the Spirit of God bring new life and bold witness in Acts 2:1–13. Come and discover how the same Spirit who raised Jesus now fills His people—turning fear into fire and silence into proclamation.

Death's defeat (Good Friday 2026)
This Friday is Good Friday and we are gathering to behold the moment Jesus went through death to bring us life. As we stand at the cross, we see that what looked like defeat was actually victory - death undone, hope secured, and the first light of resurrection breaking through.
-
745
Call upon the Name (Gen 4:25-26)
Between promise and fulfilment, Cain's line make a name for themselves, but Seth's line "call upon the name of the Lord" - trusting his character, asking him to act on his promises, and waiting for his timing. This Sunday we see how this reaches its fulfilment in Jesus, the name of God revealed and the promised seed who saves.

REVIEW: A better city
This Sunday, we'll look at how Jesus has begun a new city founded on humility and sacrificial love, yet we still live surrounded by the City of Cain. So what does it actually look like for citizens of God’s kingdom to live differently in a world built on pride, revenge, and power?
-
743
The city of Cain (Gen 4:17-24)
This Sunday, we explore the City of Cain where Cain builds the first city in an attempt to replace the presence of God. As culture advances but violence grows, we’ll see how the Bible contrasts the City of Cain with the City of God. One is built on power and pride while the other is filled with life and light.
-
742
East of Eden (Gen 4:12-16)
This Sunday, we see that Cain's punishment sends him East of Eden, but this is no ordinary exile. Genesis has been quietly building toward something that has been preparing us for the sacrificial system to come and pointing us to the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
-
741
Blood cries out (Gen 4:10-11)
This Sunday, we see that Abel’s blood cries out from the ground for justice, exposing a world where innocent blood pollutes the land and demands reckoning. But in the gospel, Jesus’ blood speaks a better word - not denying justice, but satisfying it - so that those who deserve condemnation are cleansed, welcomed into God’s presence, and freed to live as people of grace rather than revenge.

REVIEW: The freedom that fights back
This Sunday, after three weeks tracing the firstborn, the Croucher, and the war of two seeds, we slow down and ask the question that really matters: how do we deal with the sin croucher in the ordinary moments of our lives? Pastor Sly will help us move from theology to practice—learning, in Christ, how to recognise sin early, refuse to feed it, and put it to death before it masters us.
-
739
The seed of the serpent (Gen 4:8-9)
This Sunday, we see that Cain’s murder of Abel does not simply mark a moral failure, but reveals his true allegiance. By rejecting his brother, Cain proves himself to be seed of the serpent. But through Jesus, the true seed of the woman, God establishes a new family, showing that children of God are not defined by birth, status, or claim, but by being born again and bearing the fruit of love.
-
738
The croucher (Gen 4:5b-7)
This Sunday, we see that sin is not behaviour or desire, but a crouching beast within whose insatiable desire is to consume its host. Where Cain foolishly feeds the creature and becomes enslaved by it, Jesus - fully human and without sin - starves the beast in life, absorbs its full power of death on the cross, and breaks its rule through resurrection so that sin no longer reigns over those in him.
-
737
The Firstborn (Gen 4:1-5a)
This Sunday we jump back into our Genesis to Jesus series where, in chapter 4, we’ll see how the story of Cain and Abel reveals a long line of firstborns who tried to secure God’s favour by their own strength - and failed. Together we’ll trace that longing through Scripture, until it leads us to Jesus, the true Firstborn who doesn’t grasp for favour but receives it and shares it with his brothers.
-

Psalm 116
This Sunday, guest preacher Rich Priebbenow opens Psalm 116 to show us a deeply personal song of thanksgiving, where a rescued life responds to a God who hears and saves. God’s Abundant Grace reminds us that worship begins not with what we promise God, but with remembering what He has already done.

The Power of Forgiveness
This Sunday we look at The Power of Forgiveness from our Forgiven series as Jesus’ parable in Matthew 18:21–35 exposes just how deeply we’ve been forgiven - and how that changes the way we treat others. Come and see how the gospel doesn’t just call us to forgive, but gives us the power to do it.
-
733
Joy
This Sunday in The Promise of Christmas, we turn to Joy – a joy promised through Isaiah that runs deeper than circumstances and refuses to be shaken. We’ll see how that promise is fulfilled in Christ, who brings lasting joy not by changing everything around us, but by coming near to us.
-
732
Peace
This Sunday in our Advent series The Promise of Christmas we’ll see how Isaiah promised a peace far deeper than the absence of conflict — a wholeness only God can restore. And we’ll celebrate how that peace is finally fulfilled in Jesus, the true Prince of Peace who makes us whole at Christmas.
-
731
Hope
This Sunday we kick off our Advent Series by exploring the promise of hope - the kind Isaiah spoke of when he pointed a weary people to a God who would not abandon them. In a world full of uncertainty, Isaiah reminds us that hope isn’t wishful thinking but confidence in the God who keeps His word.
-
730
Forever
This Sunday we’ll wrap up our Hebrews WORTHSHIP series with FOREVER, seeing that Jesus - and his unshakable kingdom - stands firm when everything else shakes and fades. As Sinai and Zion collide on a cosmic scale, we’ll discover how the forever nature of Christ’s kingdom reshapes how we live, worship and hope today.
-
729
Greater
This Sunday, we’re exploring Hebrews 12 and seeing why Jesus is worthy of our worship - because His love is greater, His holiness is greater, and He lifts weary hearts into a greater, deeper worship. Join us as we discover how tired believers find strength, joy, and holiness in Christ alone.
-
728
Stronger
This Sunday we’re stepping into Hebrews 11–12 to explore a faith that doesn’t depend on our strength, but on the One who has already run — and won — the race for us. Come discover why real strength begins where sight ends.
-
727
Fuller
We all know what guilt feels like - that heavy sense of not being enough, of falling short again. In Hebrews 9–10, we see that God once gave Israel a system to deal with guilt, but it could only ever go so far. This week, we see that Jesus’ sacrifice does what no other could - fully cleansing our conscience and opening the way for us to draw near to God in true worship.
-
726
Better
We all know the feeling of holding onto something outdated even after something better has arrived. That’s the old covenant — real, but temporary, a shadow preparing the way. In Jesus we are given something better — a better priest, a better covenant, with better promises that don’t fade or fail.
-
725
Nearer
We were made to live near God, but sin and self keep us at a distance - like a curtain still saying keep out. Jesus, our Great High Priest, has gone behind the curtain for us and anchored us in the presence of God. Because of His worth, the unworthy may now draw near with confidence - not fear.
-
724
Deeper
Are you restless? Do you feel tired even when you’re not? Like your soul just can’t switch off? This week, Pastor Callum Mansfield will walk us through Hebrews 3-4 where we will see that our restlessness isn’t just exhaustion - it’s worship of the wrong things. What if the deep rest your soul craves isn’t found in escape, but in the One who went deeper into our unrest to bring us peace?
-
723
Higher
This Sunday, pastor Callum Mansfield kicks off our series, “The Worthship of Jesus in Hebrews”. We begin in Hebrews 1–2, where we see Jesus lifted above prophets, angels, and every rival glory - yet made low to raise us up. Come and see why His worth is beyond comparison, and why He alone is worthy of our worship.

Why discipleship
Jesus didn’t tell us to make only believers - He told us to make disciples (Matt 28:19). This means that discipleship does not terminate with our walk with Jesus, but is designed to so that we might help others follow him, too. In this final message of The Heart of Discipleship, we’ll see why true discipleship must multiply, how the Spirit overcomes our barriers, and what practical steps we can take to be disciples who make disciples.
-
718
What flows out of my new heart
When God gives us a new heart, He also gives us the assurance that He will finish what He started. The fruit that flows out of our lives isn’t manufactured by effort, but cultivated by the Spirit as God’s good work continues in us. With a heart made new, we can live with confidence that real transformation is not only possible - it is promised.
-
717
What remains of my old self
Even after trusting in Jesus, many of us wrestle with the reality that old habits and sinful patterns still remain. Why is real change so difficult—and what hope do we have when our hearts grow hard? Join us this Sunday as we explore how the gospel softens our hearts and brings true transformation from the inside out.
-
716
Who are we
We were never meant to follow Jesus alone. From the very beginning, God designed us for relationship - first with Him, then with one another. Discipleship isn’t just an individual pursuit; it’s a shared journey where we are shaped, strengthened, and transformed together. This Sunday, we’ll explore what it means to belong to Christ’s body, why community is essential for discipleship, and how the love of Jesus becomes visible when His people live as one. Join us as we ask: Who are we - together - in Christ?
-
715
Who am I
We all want to know who we really are—but identity isn’t something we achieve, it’s something we receive in Christ. Join us this Sunday as we discover the freedom of being fully known, fully loved, and forever secure in Him.
-
714
What Has He Done
What has God really done for us? In the gospel, His love didn’t just exist - it moved toward us in Jesus, to rescue, restore, and renew. This week we’ll see that the gospel isn’t just the starting point of faith, it’s the very heartbeat of discipleship - the power that saves us and keeps changing us every day.
-
713
Who is God
We all carry an idea of who God is, but so often it’s shaped by our own feelings and disappointments. Yet real, lasting change doesn’t come from a god we imagine - it comes from beholding the beauty of the living God revealed in Jesus. Come and see how truly seeing Him doesn’t just inspire admiration but transforms your heart and your life.

Psalm 38
Feeling the weight of our sin is burdensome. We get an insight into how heavily it was upon David in this Psalm. His honesty shows us that we can be open before the Lord when we are feeling weighed down because of our own sin, and that we can turn to Him for help.
-
709
Psalm 29
The Voice of the Lord is mighty, and thunders through all creation. David reflects on the glory of the Lord as he looks out across a terrifying storm. He invites all of God's people on earth to join in the with the heavenly worship of their Creator.

708
Exile (Gen 3:20-24)
In Genesis 3, humanity is sent east of Eden—out of the garden, down the mountain, and into the wilderness. A flaming sword now guards the way back. This isn’t just geography; it’s theology. It’s the beginning of a question that echoes through the rest of Scripture: Who shall ascend the mountain of the Lord?
-
707
Curse (Gen 3:16-19)
Once the garden overflowed with abundance, ease, and unbroken relationship - but in Genesis 3:16–19, we witness it all unravel. Blessing gives way to curse, harmony to hostility, and creation itself begins to fracture. Join us as we explore the devastating beauty of de-creation - and the God who doesn’t walk away.
-
706
Seed vs seed (Gen 3:14-15)
Who will crush the serpent’s head? Genesis 3:15 isn’t just a curse—it’s a promise. From Eden to the empty tomb, the Bible tells of a cosmic conflict between two seeds. Join us this Sunday as we trace the story of the Snake Crusher and ask the question: Whose seed are you?
-

REVIEW: Freed from shame
In Genesis 3:1–13, we’ve seen how sin begins with a voice, grows through misplaced trust, and ends in shame. But even in our hiding, God still calls out, “Where are you?”—inviting us to stop running and start trusting the voice of Jesus.
-
704
Where are you? (Gen 3:7-13)
When God asked it in Eden, humanity was naked, hiding, and ashamed—and we’ve been covering up our guilt, shifting blame, and avoiding his presence ever since. But the gospel tells us that Jesus stepped into our place, exposed and forsaken, so we could come out of hiding and finally be found.
-
703
See & take (Gen 3:6)
In the garden, they reached for what looked good—but it led to ruin. Ever since, we’ve been chasing wisdom on our own terms. But what if true wisdom isn’t something you take… but something you receive? Come and see how Jesus flips the script—and how distorted wisdom still shapes our world today.
-
702
Did God actually say...? (Gen 3:2-5)
Not all battles are fought with weapons. Some begin with a whisper. In the garden, the serpent didn’t strike - he spoke. He twisted truth, sowed doubt, and made death sound like wisdom. This week, we explore the power of a voice: one that deceives and one that delivers. Whose voice are you trusting?Join us as we trace the war of words from Eden to the cross - where Jesus, the Word made flesh, silences the serpent for good.
