Today, we're reading 2 Samuel 10, 1 Chronicles 19, and Psalms 20, 65, and 66. We'll ask how we balance the Scriptures that we "believe the best" about others with the fact that we're called to be "as wise as serpents and innocent as doves".Today's Reading: 2 Samuel 10, 1 Chronicles 19, Psalm 20, 65, 66Scripture Read or Referenced:1 Chronicles 19:1-5, 131 Corinthians 13:7Matthew 10:16James 1:19, 1:5Psalm 20 (all)Psalm 65:1-4Psalm 66 (all)Could you use some encouragement to follow God in your parenting? #93. 2 Samuel 8-9, 1 Chronicles 18, + Psalm 33, 36, and 39 | Praise Befits the Upright
Today, David will take the high road and not dwell in disappointment or rejection, God will grant him victory in every direction as He promised in the Davidic Covenant, and David will prove that all the success has not gone to his head. In the Psalms, we'll be warned about not walking in sinful intentions and provided with so many reasons to praise!Today's Scripture: 2 Samuel 8-9, 1 Chronicles 18, + Psalm 33, 36, and 39Scripture Read or Referenced:2 Samuel 9:1-8Psalm 33 (all)Psalm 36 (all)Could you use some encouragement to follow God in your parenting? #92. 2 Samuel 6-7, 1 Chronicles 17, and Psalm 25 and 29 | When God Says "No" To the Purest of Prayers... But Offers a Better "Yes"
As we read my favorite story from the life of David, I'm in awe. I see David at his best, offering the most humble, God-honoring request, and God telling him "no". But the story doesn't stop there, because God offers him something so much better! And it will result in our good as well!Although the main purpose of this story being included in Scripture is that we would understand the Davidic Covenant and how Jesus Christ will reign eternally, I also think we can find such comfort in the fact that when God tells us "no" or shuts doors in our lives, His Word tells us that He's working all things for our good.We didn't have enough time to cover Psalm 29 today, but I encourage you to read it and look for the 7 statements about the voice of the Lord!Today's Reading: 2 Samuel 6-7, 1 Chronicles 17, and Psalm 25 and 29Scripture Read or Referenced: 2 Samuel 6:16, 20-232 Samuel 7 (all)Isaiah 55:8-9Psalm 25:4-5, 8-10, 12-14, 21Could you use some encouragement to follow God in your parenting? #91. Psalm 96, 100, 101, 105, and 132 | When God--or a Mom--Repeats Their Words, It's Important!
As we continue to press into this idea that we serve a God that has always longed to dwell with us, we'll become more and more convinced that His presence is what transforms our homes and our motherhood as well. Today, we're focusing on Psalm 96, 100, 101, 105, and 132, and we'll take a peek at a familiar parable Jesus told. Some of these psalms have so much repetition. But just like a mom repeats things to her kids because they're important, when God's Word says something multiple times, I pray we have ears to hear.Today's Reading: Psalm 96, 100, 101, 105, and 132Psalm 96 (all)Psalm 100 (all)Psalm 50:23Psalm 101:2-4, 6-7Psalm 105:4, 16-22Psalm 132:1-5Luke 8:5-8, 11-15Could you use some encouragement to follow God in your parenting? #90. Psalm 1, 2, 15, 22, 24, 47, 68, 89 | The Psalm That Saved My Marriage
Today will be another day we're entirely in the book of Psalms covering eight different chapters. Since these are written in poetic format, they don't take as long to read as other chapters of Scripture, so don't worry! Although the Psalms appeal to our emotions and are highly relatable, they're also deeply theological. The character of God is woven throughout. If I'm being completely vulnerable with you, there's a verse we'll cover today that helped me honor my commitment to my husband when everything in me was ready to pack my bags and head for the door. Don't worry, my husband signs off on everything I say, so I'm not throwing anyone under the bus! I'm just saying marriage is hard and God's word has helped me more times than I can count to strengthen my spirit to do something that my flesh was too weak to do.Today's Reading: Psalm 1, 2, 15, 22, 24, 47, 68, 89Scripture Read or Referenced:Psalm 1 (all)Psalm 2:1-2, 7-8, 12John 14:6Psalm 15 (all)Psalm 22:1, 14-18Psalm 24:3-5Psalm 47:2, 8Psalm 68:5, 10, 19Psalm 89:14Could you use some encouragement to follow God in your marriage? #86. 1 Chronicles 6-7 + Psalm 73, 77, 78 | But for Me It is Good to Be Near God
The genealogies continue in our reading with 1 Chronicles 6-7. It may not be completely evident to us today, but these chapters were practically relevant for the people of that time, and in order to understand why we need to visit a historical event. Then, the Psalms we're reading today come from book three and the focus is on holiness in God's people. That's reflective of the call to holiness in Leviticus. Remember in that book that over and over God said, "Be holy as I am holy"? As you listen to these Psalms try to hear why the organizer of the Psalms put it in this section.Today's Reading: 1 Chronicles 6-7 + Psalm 73, 77, 78Scripture Read or Referenced: Psalm 73:1-29Psalm 77:1-2, 10-14Psalm 78: 35-39Psalm 78:5-8 (Prayer)

Today we're focusing on 1Chronicles 3-5 and Psalm 84, 85 and 87. Since Psalm 84 is the theme for this entire podcast, I'm pretty excited to revisit it with you!Though the purpose of this Psalm is to point us to worship of God and the pilgrimage the original readers took for the annual feasts in Jerusalem, I think we can find many principles of godly motherhood here as well! A life lived in worship and devotion to God will naturally be a motherhood that honors Christ!Today's Reading: 1 Chronicles 3-5 + Psalm 84, 85, 87Scripture Read or Referenced:1 Chronicles 3:1-91 Chronicles 4:9-101 Chronicles 5:22-26Psalm 84 (All, of course!)Psalm 85:8, 11Psalm 87:4James 1:5Are you looking for more biblical parenting wisdom? #84. 1 Chronicles 1-2 + Psalm 43, 45, and 49 | Treasuring The Books Believers Gave Their Lives For
There are a lot of geneologies in the book of Chronicles and there is overlap with the books of Kings and Samuel. So why is this book important and who decided it should be in the Canon of Scripture? Today we talk a little about this before we experience the depths of Psalms. #83. Psalm 6, 8-10, 14, 16, 19, 21 | Psalms Meets Us Where We Are At And Takes Our Hearts Where They Should Be: Worship!
Today our reading is entirely from the book of Psalms. For a moment, I had to pause and think, "What would the Bible be if the book of Psalms wasn't included?" I can't count the times in my life where I needed deep encouragement, strength, and hope, and I knew to open my Bible to Psalms. No matter what we're feeling in life, from joy to lament, to anger, discouragement, depression, anxiety, awe, exhaustion, humility, or gratitude, Psalms not only meets us where we're at, it takes us where we're supposed to be--reminding us that in all situations, we serve a King worthy of our worship. #82. 2 Samuel 1-3 + Psalm 128-130 | More Waiting?
Today we're studying the first three chapters of Second Samuel, and then we'll read Psalms 1 28 through one 30, and pray accordingly. First and second Samuel are one book in the Hebrew Bible, but we're divided because the scrolls didn't contain enough room to keep them together. We'll talk about the blessing of friendship, and how David is still waiting for the complete fulfillment of God's promises to Him, and how messy the battle for the throne was. Today's Reading: 2 Samuel 1-3 + Psalm 128-130Scripture Read or Referenced:2 Samuel 1: 1, 6-14, 25-262 Samuel 2:1, 4, 6, 8, 18, 282 Samuel 3: 1, 6, 8-10, 36-37Psalm 128-130 (all)

#81. 1 Samuel 29-31 + Psalm 18, 123-125 | He Rescued Me Because He Delighted in Me
Today we'll conclude 1 Samuel with chapters 29 through 31, as well as Psalm 18 and 123 through 125. Scripture has been going back and forth revealing the dichotomy between the character of Saul and David. The providential hand of the Lord will continue to direct and guide David, and it will ordain the end of Saul's reign and life. In reflecting upon their lives, we'll get to ask ourselves: When even the worst is happening to us or to those we love, do we see ourselves turning to sin or do we find an opportunity to gain our strength from the Lord?Today's Reading: 1 Samuel 29-31 + Psalm 18, 123-125Scripture Read:1 Samuel 29:6-71 Samuel 30:18-20, 23-25Acts 13:221 Samuel 31:3-6Psalm 124:8Psalm 125:2Psalm 18 (Most--It's one of my favorites!)Are you looking for more biblical parenting wisdom? We're covering 1 Samuel 25 through 28 today. You guys--I am Phineas level excited to talk to you about Abigail! It's about time we have a woman we can look up to and admire. #79. Psalm 31, 34, 52, 56, 120, 140-142 | Praising a God Who Stores Up Blessings for Us So Our Children Can See
Because David is the author of so many Psalms, we'll be reading these interchangeably with other books of History from The Bible. At first glance, it might seem that the Psalms are merely beautiful poems or songs of praise, but captured in each one is an abundance of theology. They tell us about God. They point to the power with which He created the universe, and also the nearness and tenderness that He has in caring for each one of us. These are great passages to meditate upon with our kids, and as you read them together, you can say, "What does this psalm tell us about God?" But in case that reference to siblings fighting all day sounded familiar... we've got you covered in this episode of the AGAIN podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-again-podcast-for-christian-moms-encouragement-in/id1700555502?i=1000624630660Today's Reading: Psalm 31, 34, 52, 56, 120, 140-142Scripture Read or Referenced:Psalm 31:1-5, 14-16, 19Psalm 23:3Psalm 34 (all)Psalm 56:8-11Matthew 10:26Psalm 120:6-7Psalm 140:12-13Psalm 142:1-7Psalm 141:1-4, 8Are you looking for more biblical parenting wisdom? #78. 1 Samuel 21-24 + Psalm 7 and 27 | Trusting the LORD to Bring About His Purposes
Today we're looking at First Samuel Chapters 21 through 24, and Psalm seven and 27. I know it's a lot to cover, but I really appreciate having these narratives alongside the Psalms that were most likely written by David at that time.Chapter 24 will be our main focus today. It would seem that David would have every right to take Saul's life at this point. It could be seen as self-defense. God has told him he's to be king, and God has promised to remove Saul's kingship, but David trusts God and His Sovereignty. Today's Reading: 1 Samuel 21-24 + Psalm 7 and 27Matthew 12:3-81 Samuel 22:2-4, 18-191 Samuel 23:2-5, 15-18, 25-271 Samuel 24: 1-12, 16-22Psalm 27Psalm 7Are you looking for more biblical parenting wisdom? Today we are looking at so.much.Scripture! Much of it is familiar, but that's when I love to press in and see new things that we've never noticed before. Today, God showed me many things that have never stood out to me previously. #76. 1 Samuel 13-16 | Overlooked by Man, but Chosen By God
Yesterday we saw some nuance, but today in one Samuel 13 through 16, there's going to be a little debate about the true character of King Saul. We'll also see David enter the scene... not because man initiates it, but because God recognizes the humility of his heart. Have I mentioned Scripture has a lot to say that applies to our lives and our parenting?! #75. 1 Samuel 9-12 | People are Complicated
Today we're looking at chapters 9 through 12 of 1 Samuel. And I just have to say people are complicated. This is where we'll meet King Saul. If you've studied Scripture for long, you probably remember that he's the one that tried to kill the future King David. Usually the guy trying to kill the good guy is the bad guy... But there are some moments in today's chapters where he doesn't seem like such a bad guy--and God picks him to be King over Israel. Like I said, it's complicated and that's why it feels so real to me because people are truly complex.Today's Reading: 1 Samuel 9-12Scripture Read or Reference: 1 Samuel 9:1-2, 14-171 Samuel 10:1, 5, 9-11, 20-22, 26-271 Samuel 11:6, 131 Samuel 12:13-25Isaiah 55:2Are you looking for more biblical parenting wisdom? #74. 1 Samuel 4-8 | It's Not You They've Rejected, It's Me
1 Samuel is full of parenting do's and don'ts! From Hannah's surrender to Eli's reluctance, and now Samuel's presumption, there is a lot to learn from as Christian moms! Not only do we see parenting advice, we are cautioned to not ask God for things because we are envious of what others have. Find out why in today's episode.Today's Reading: 1 Samuel 4-8Scripture Read or Referenced:1 Samuel 4:12-181 Samuel 5:2-41 Samuel 6:10-12, 191 Samuel 7:3-41 Samuel 8:1-22a1 Peter 2So... there was some advice, but what if you're looking for more wisdom? #73. 1 Samuel 1-3 | For This Child I Prayed
Today we'll read what I suspect is probably the most common scripture for people to put above their baby's crib (1 Samuel 1:20 or 27). If you've walked through Hobby Lobby, you've probably seen it! As we begin the Book of Samuel and cover the first three chapters, the good, the bad, and the ugly of parenting will be on full display. There is much for us to meditate upon to challenge and strengthen our perspective of what God calls us to as Christian moms.Today's Reading: 1 Samuel 1-3Scripture Read or Referenced:1 Samuel 1:1-1:281 Samuel 2:261 Samuel 3:13Luke 2:52Would you like to know more about how you can guide your child in righteousness? #72. Ruth 1-4 | A Son Trained By His Mother to Show Hesed Love Meets the Original Proverbs 31 Woman
Today, I'll give an overview of the book of Ruth and share why this book is so important. This book is historical, but also literarily excellent. My MacArthur Commentary says there are seven major themes that emerge in Ruth."First, Ruth, the Moabite, illustrates that God's redemptive plan extended beyond the Jews to Gentiles. Second, Ruth demonstrates that women are coheirs with men of God's salvation grace. Third, Ruth portrays the virtuous woman of Proverbs 31. Fourth, Ruth describes God's sovereign and providential care of seemingly unimportant people at apparently insignificant times, which later prove to be monumentally crucial to accomplishing God's will. Fifth, Ruth, along with Tamar, Rahab, and Bathsheba, stand in the genealogy of the Messianic line. Sixth, Boaz, as a type of Christ, becomes Ruth's kinsman-redeemer. Finally, David's right (and thus Christ's right) to the throne of Israel is traced back to Judah." #71. Judges 18-21 | A Husband Who Gave Himself Up for Her
Today we'll be completing the book of Judges. ***This is certainly not an episode you would want children to listen to. We'll be looking at Judges 18 through 21, including one of the most horrifying stories in all of Scripture. It's graphic and heartbreaking, and if it were a movie, most of us would probably want to change the channel. In these four chapters of the Bible, it feels discouraging and sickening because you just want to see someone doing what is right in the Lord's eyes, and not in their own eyes, but if we look to Christ, hope remains. #70. Judges 13-17 | He Does Not Know It Will Cost Him His Life
We're at the point of judges in which we'll be discussing Samson's story. There's really no way around this. I'm going to issue that sensitive ears warning again and say that this is ideal for mom ears... because it's Samson. When I look at his life, I think, "Things that make you go, 'hmm....' " We have to be careful to not attribute his sinful choices to the Lord, but rather see a God that is able to accomplish His purposes with very fallen people. That theme is throughout Scripture and it can give us encouragement as we're praying for those that seem to be far from God--because none of us is outside the reach of the grace of Jesus Christ.Today's Reading: Judges 14-17Scripture Read or Referenced:Hebrews 11:32Judges 13:25Judges 14:1-20Proverbs 7:21-25Would you like to know more about how you can guide your child in righteous dating relationships? Today we're focusing on Judges 4-6. In chapter 4, we get to meet some really cool women. Deborah, who is elevated by the people and by scripture for her wisdom, faith, and resourcefulness, calls out Barack, who was supposed to be leading the people. #66. Judges 1-3 | Who Will Rescue Us?
Today we're beginning the Book of Judges, a book, some might call a heartbreaking sequel to Joshua. We'll do an overview of this book of The Bible, discuss chapters one through three, and it won't be difficult to highlight the need for a rescuer in Jesus Christ as we prepare our hearts for Easter. While we might think of the word judges in a judicial sense, these were more political and military leaders. Although we concluded the book of Joshua with the people promising that they would stay obedient to the Lord. Here in Judges, we see the consequence of the Israelites allowing some of the Canaanites to remain within their midst in the Promised land as God had frequently warned them.Today's Reading: Judges 1-3Scripture Read or Referenced:Judges 1:19-22Judges 2:1-5, 10, 11-23Romans 7:15-8:2**Did you catch our special Easter episode of Again with incredible author Patti Rokus? #65. Joshua 21-24 | Not One Word of the LORD Failed
Today we'll conclude the book of Joshua with chapters 21 through 24. Just like Moses, Joshua closed his time of leadership with the Israelites with some powerful speeches. We'll learn that God was faithful to every word He promised them. #62. Joshua 9-12: The LORD Heeded the Voice of a Man
Today, as we read through Joshua 9 through 12, we are rejoicing with him and the Israelites as they're finally inhabiting the promised land. God promised to Abraham hundreds of years ago that he would give this land as a reward to Abraham's descendants, and God is faithful. But now Israel needs to be faithful to conquer the Canaanites. We've seen some victories and a few failures. How about you? This podcast started three months ago and you might be able to relate to the Israelites a little bit, having some seasons of victory and sometimes where you fell off a little bit. That's okay! Today we're beginning the book of Joshua, the lesser known protege to Moses, but he is pivotal in the nation of Israel's story because he allowed the people to finally possess the land that God has been promising them since the time of Abraham. You can't really talk about the Old Testament without talking about what Joshua helped the people accomplish. #58. Deuteronomy 29-31 | This Command is Not Too Far Off For You
Today's reading of Deuteronomy 29 through 31 almost feels like an incredibly depressing graduation speech one of the themes seems to be, don't say you weren't warned or don't say you didn't know. Moses knows he's about to die, and he's giving his parting words to the nation of Israel. After 40 years of leading them, watching God do incredible works among them, they're about to enter the Promised Land, but Moses can't go with them. And after years of ministering to them, encouraging them to be faithful to the Lord, God has made Moses aware that they will fall into grave sin and apostasy. They're not going to be faithful to the Lord. What do you think this was like for him? #57. Deuteronomy 26-28 | No Good Apart From You
Often it seems Christianity is a balance of contradictions, and that without the Holy Spirit, we can't possibly live within the tension. As much as I want us to embrace that He is a God that longs to dwell with us, we must never forget that he's a holy God that must be revered and honored. In job. I said, often things happen to us that aren't the result of our own sin. But as we read today, it is certainly a biblical principle that we reap what we sow. The warnings in Deuteronomy are terrifying for those who turn away from God. If you can see these warnings coming from the love of a God jealous for His Bride, you'll understand how deeply loves you. If you turn away from him, the best thing he can do is to thwart all your plans and purposes so that you come to the end of yourself and run back to him.Today's Reading: Deuteronomy 26-28Scripture Read or Referenced:Deuteronomy 26:15Deuteronomy 28:1-32, 45-50, 58-63Psalm 16:2Why does obedience matter so much to God? #56. Deuteronomy 23-25 | A God Who Strongly Supports Those Whose Hearts Are Fully His
Do you believe we've already gone through 220 chapters of Scripture? I know it's going so fast, but remember, God is the main character of this story. When we go through this quickly, we're able to see patterns like how faithful He is and how He longs to dwell with us. But we also know that there are things we can do to hinder this relationship. Today we look at more civil laws that bring blessing to our walk with God and what hinders it--and what Jesus had to say about it. #54. Deuteronomy 15-18 | Following the Example of the Servant King
In Deuteronomy 15-18, God's heart for the people to give generously so that there are not poor among them is shown. Next, the process for a servant to become part of a family is described, and then we're told the guidelines for a king of Israel. In the New Testament, Paul embraces the idea that he is a bondservant for Christ, and in Philippians, he writes that Jesus--though He was king--laid down His rights to serve us. It's this example that we have to embrace. Whatever life brings, we can follow the One who first served us. #53. Deuteronomy 11-14 | That It May Go Well With You
The God of The Bible longs to bless His children. As Israel prepares to enter the Promised Land, Moses continues to give God's instruction for flourishing. You and I may not be held to the ceremonial law, but the heart of these Scriptures--holding fast to the One True God--will ever be our aim. Today we see cautions for friendships and a reminder to recall all that God has done for us to keep our hearts close to Him.Today's Reading: Deuteronomy 11-14Scripture Read or Referenced:Deuteronomy 11:1-32Deuteronomy 12:11Deuteronomy 13:6-81 Corinthians 8:9Deuteronomy 14:24-26Ezekiel 36Do you wish you could talk about the ups and downs of Christian parenting with other moms at your church? #49. Numbers 35-36 + Deuteronomy 1 | Does God Care Who We Marry? Do Christians Have to Marry Christians?
Today's Scripture is Numbers 35 through 36, and Deuteronomy 1. The book of Deuteronomy is one of my favorite books in the entire Bible! There are many verses I meditate on that reveal the heart of God. We'll see how much he desires to bless the Israelites and their children. There'll be much to say about parenting, but interestingly, it was one of these verses in Numbers that provided one of the most impactful times I've ever had in The Word.Scripture Read or Referenced:Numbers 35:34Numbers 36:2-7, 102 Corinthians 6:14Deuteronomy 7:3-4, 6Deuteronomy 1:20-21, 36-39You're getting quite the education! #48. Numbers 31-34 | And the Rock was Christ
* This episode will have some sensitive content and is best for mom ears alone. It's one of my favorite things to do when studying The Bible, to look to the New Testament and see what is revealed about Old Testament characters and situations. Today, as we're provided an Old Testament overview of the wilderness wanderings, we'll look to Paul's writings to learn that "these things were written for our instruction." May we learn from the Israelites and flee temptation, embracing Jesus Christ, Our Rock.Today's Reading: Numbers 31-34Scripture Read or Referenced:Numbers 31:1-19, 32-34, 48-50Numbers 33:50-551 Corinthians 10:1-13You're getting quite the education!
