He brings with him a decade of experience in higher education and talks with Dr Atman about some of the reasons that today's students have a disconnect from the material that is being presented in class.  In a discussion about Common Core, Mike and Dr Atman look at the dilemma it often presents for parents when they try to help their children with homework only to realize that the methods they were taught in their youth are very different from what their children are learning in the classroom today. The episode also provides an overview of the unique programs that Middle Tree offers to take that burden away from parents rather than teachers and give them back valuable time to simply be parents and enjoy their children.Follow Middle Tree on social media.  Find us on Facebook.Find out what opportunities Middle Tree has for your students at MiddleTree.org.Dr Atman has written several books on education.  You can check them out at Amazon.com.The music you hear on the introduction to Educate Everyone is from Dr Atman's album It Took the Village.  Enjoy the full song and other tracks on his album on Apple Music.

Talking with Dr. LaVona Thomas, Middle Tree Director of Education

Technology is playing a big role in today's education but what should that involvement look like and how should it be taught. In this Episode of Educate Everyone, our guest is Middle Tree Education Director, LaVona Thomas. In a lively discussion with Dr. Joseph Atman, she talks about how schools have stepped back from teaching many of the subjects that helped earlier generations graduate into adulthood - leaving those things to parents now - who seemingly are leaving it to their children and the Internet to figure them out.  She discusses the lack of cursive writing being taught in today's schools, meaning many young people don't know how to sign their names. But Dr. Atman cautions, it's too early to call these developments bad and explains the thoughts behind his theory of 'wait and see'.Follow Middle Tree on social media.
