Along with this, we also talk about the Seattle DIY scene, the importance of the Vera Project, and the way the scene has changed over the last decade or so. After interviewing 80+ bands on this show, an overwhelming amount of them formed during covid. Some people baked sourdough some people made bands, I guess. From nostalgia acts to the litany of great young bands popping up over the past few years, it really does feel like 2020 was a bit of a calatyst. When Berkeley from Thoughts on Bowling came on our show a few months ago and hinted at the identify of their new singer I went full tinfoil hat, so when they announced Mitchell as the new vocalist I knew we had to get him on the show to learn more. We dive into how he became the new frontman for one of emo's hottest new bands as well as the wild and weirdly theatrical road he took to get there. As a vocal coach who works with the singers of some of your favorite bands like Arm's Length and Hot Mulligan, Mitchell is an expert at the instrument that is the human voice and he was nice enough to give us a little lesson on how to sing like Patrick Stump. Straight up, this might have been Amanda's favorite moment on the show, it was magical. I'm very excited to see what the future holds for Thoughts on Bowling with Mitchell on the mic because if there performance at Burn Bright is any indication, they're about to hit a whole new level. Fred has been making headlines this week thanks to a few tiktok videos but as we know, tiktok is no place for nuance so I thought it was only fair to give Fred the chance to expand on his statements but more importantly, tell his side of the story and control his narrative. Does he really think they were better than Paramore?Did John Feldmann ruin the band? Are the lyrics misogynistic? Is Shaant a dick? Can his past comments and behavior be atoned for? Does he want to? Will the fans ever get a CIWWAF reunion? We answer all of this and more.Fred walks us through the whole history and band lore. From high school hallways in Buffalo to forming the band and finding themselves getting signed by John Janick and Fueled By Ramen in a matter of months. Formed in Kent, Washington by three pals, Daphne were the first band to ever hit a million plays on PureVolume. This led to them getting signed by Trevor Pryce of the Denver Broncos (WTF?) while they were still teenagers. Jason tells me the whole story plus why he left the band and what we can expect when it comes to a possible DLD reunion.
