Episode 49: Sermon on the Mount: Be The Salt and Light of the World

We’re continuing our Life of Jesus series and diving deeper into the Sermon on the Mount. This week, we’re unpacking what Jesus meant when He called us to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Join us as we talk about living differently in a culture that pulls us the other way.

  2. 49

Episode 48: The Beatitudes Featuring Bro. Jeff Thomas

Join us as we dive into Jesus' beautiful introduction to the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes. The Beatitudes are not a checklist to achieve. They are a picture of Christ. These statements build on one another to form a complete picture of what a life surrendered to Christ should reflect. It begins with our spiritual poverty which leads to mourning our sinful state and overflows into meekness, a desire for righteousness, showing mercy, purity, and peacefulness. Persecution is likely to come our way as all of these attributes stand as starkly countercultural. It isn't about striving harder, or measuring up. It's about transformation. As we abide in Christ, these qualities begin to overflow from an abundance of His Grace and love for us. The Beatitudes don't call us to perform. They invite us into a closer walk with the one who exemplified them.

Episode 47: The Power to Heal, the Authority to Forgive, and the Cost of Speaking Truth

In this episode, we walk through three moments in Jesus' early ministry that reveal His authority, His Compassion, and His boldness in speaking Truth no matter the consequence. We begin with the healing of a man with leprosy, a man once isolated and untouchable, who is restored by Jesus and instructed to tell no one but to go and show himself to the priest as the Law required. Yet even in the restraint Jesus calls for, his life becomes a testimony that cannot be contained. When you've been changed by Jesus, it shows. We, then, step into a crowded house where a paralyzed man is lowered through the roof by faithful friends. Before anything else, Jesus looks at him and says, "Son, your sins are forgiven." In this moment, Jesus first addresses the man's greatest need, because the greatest need of all mankind is the need for a Savior to rescue us from our sin. When the man rises, takes up his mat, and walks out in full view of everyone, his life becomes undeniable evidence of Jesus' authority and power. Finally, We turn to Nazareth, Jesus' hometown, where the people who have always known him are initially amazed by Him. But when Jesus begins to speak Truth to them, their amazement quickly turns to offense. Despite all of the miracles and incredible teachings, Jesus faces rejection in the very place He grew up. Rejection is something we, too, may face as Christ-followers, and we take heart from Jesus' example. These stories remind us that encounters with Jesus leave us changed - healed, forgiven, and set free. His Truth is too good not to share, no matter the cost.

Episode 50: The Revelation of Jesus: From Cana to the Well

In this episode of the Equipt Christian Podcast, we continue our Life of Jesus series by exploring some of the most powerful early moments in Jesus’ ministry. We unpack the significance of the wedding feast and the invitation it represents for all of us to be part of God’s kingdom as we dive into Jesus’ first miracle—turning water into wine at Cana. From there, we discuss Jesus’ late-night conversation with Nicodemus about spiritual rebirth, and the beautiful, life-changing encounter with the woman at the well, where Jesus meets her with truth, grace, and living water. This episode is full of meaning, hope, and reminders that Jesus meets us exactly where we are. Subscribe, share, and join us as we grow together in understanding the life and heart of Jesus.

The Calling of the Disciples: Surrender and Obedience in Following Jesus

Join us as we walk through the powerful and personal moments when Jesus called His disciples. Jesus spends time in prayer, chooses the ordinary, meets His future disciples where they are in their everyday lives, and calls them to an extraordinary purpose. But this calling was not casual - it required surrender. It demanded obedience. They left behind security and comfort to follow the One who called them. The call of Jesus is still relevant today. He is still calling, and He is still worthy of our surrender.

  6. 45

Episode 44: Understanding God's Truth In The Midst Of Temptation

In this fourth episode of our Life of Jesus series, we dive into one of the most pivotal moments in Jesus' early ministry - His temptation in the wilderness. As Jesus faces Satan, we see something striking: the enemy knows Scripture and isn't afraid to twist it and use it. But Jesus responds with Truth, rightly understood and firmly rooted in the heart of God. This conversation challenges us to ask: Do we know God's Word well enough to recognize when it's being twisted? Because if we don't know the truth, we'll fall for the counterfeit. We also explore a powerful rhythm in Jesus' life - His intenional withdrawal to solitary places to pray. Even before His ministry becomes busy, Jesus models what it looks like to consistently make room for the Father. And as we'll see in future episodes, the busier His life gets, the more He leans into that time with God.

  7. 44

Episode 43: Jesus As A Boy And Before His Earthly Ministry

Episode 4 in our Life of Jesus series looks at two key moments before Jesus' ministry begins. First, we explore the story of twelve-year-old Jesus in the temple discussing Scripture with the teachers and declaring He must be in His Father's house. Then we turn to John the Baptist - his mission to prepare the way for the Messiah and the powerful moment when he baptizes Jesus. We're so glad you're here!

  8. 43

Episode 42: Born the Promised King: The Rightful Kingship of Jesus

The story of Jesus' birth is one of the most familiar in Scripture - but when we slow down and look closely, it reveals something profound: Jesus didn't just arrive as a baby in Bethlehem - He arrived as the rightful King. In this episode, we walk through the events surrounding His birth, including Mary and Joseph's obedience, the angelic announcement to the shepherds, the journey of the magi, and the powerful moment when Jesus is presented in the temple. There, two faithful servants of God - Simeon and Anna - recognize the child for who He truly is: the long-awaited Messiah and the salvation of Israel. From a manger to the temple courts, every scene points to the same truth: the King has come!

  9. 42

Episode 41: Roots of the Redeemer: Introducing the Gospel Writers and Exploring the Grace in the Genealogy of Jesus

Before the miracles... before the ministry... before the manger... there was already a story being written. In this opening episode of our Life of Jesus series, we introduce the four Gospel writers - Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John - and explore why God chose four unique voices to tell one extraordinary story. Who were they? Who were they writing to? And what did each of them want us to understand about Jesus? Join us as we step into the genealogy of Jesus. We know genealogies can sometimes temp readers to skim rather than dig in, but we promise this story is too good to skip over. Come along with us as we trace the family line of the Redeemer and uncover the surprising grace woven through every generation. Brokenness, faithfulness, scandal, redemption - its all there. Because the genealogy isn't just a list of names. It's proof that God keeps His promises.

Episode 40: 400 Years of Preparation

In this kickoff to our Following the Life of Jesus series, we zoom out and set the stage by going all the way back to Daniel chapter 2. Before we ever meet Jesus in the New Testament, God was already weaving the story together - faithfully, intentionally, and in ways no one could have imagined. We unpack King Nebuchadnezzar's dream and show how it unfolds exactly as God said it would during the 400 years of "silence" between the Old and New Testaments. Even when it looks like God wasn't speaking, He was still moving. Still preparing. Still making a way for the arrival of Jesus and the future spread of the Gospel. If you've ever felt like you're waiting on God, this episode is a reminder that He's working in the waiting. We hope you walk away encouraged, strengthened, and fired up to dig deeper into God's Word as we begin this journey through the life of Jesus.
