Ep 052: How to make a difference
In this week's episode of the Far More Podcast, Liz and Jason are completely unscripted but a message they currently heard at their church, Faith Arlington, has really got their wheels turning. The message was about making a difference in today's world and it all boils down to the Great Commission: Go and make disciples.Matthew 9 is the chapter in the Bible that the message was preached from and it's Jesus talking about how the work is plentiful, but the people needed to carry out this work is small. Jason challenges us to think about things a little differently than we tend to; instead of asking God to show us step-by-step what we're supposed to be doing, it's more of a "I'm going, God and if I'm not supposed to be doing this thing, then shut the door."Listen in as they unpack how to make a difference in today's world. You can watch this episode on YouTube here.If you want to see the intense fitness race that Liz and Jason talked about (a lot) in this episode, check it out here.Want to connect with us? Ep 051: Biblical Manhood - what does it look like?
Today Jason and Liz are diving a bit deeper into the topic of biblical manhood and what it looks like. A couple of episodes ago, they talked about the "brand" of men and why it's struggling right now and the episode morphed into a talk about manhood, so Liz wanted to dive into more of that to tease out what being a godly man looks like.Liz referenced the podcast, The Pursuit of Manliness and more specifically episode 420 where Jarrett Samuels interviews pastor and author, Josh Smith about his book "The Titus Ten: Foundations for Godly Manhood." You can watch this episode over on YouTube here. And for those who care at all, the phrase "holy moly" actually dates back to the late 1800s and was likely just a cleaned up version of "Holy Moses" or "Holy Mary." Ep 050: What does biblical womanhood look like?
What is biblical womanhood? What does God's Word say about:What a godly woman should focus on?How she should conduct herself? What her priorities should be?In a flood of various definitions of womanhood, Liz thought it was important to clarify the Bible's instruction for feminine roles, character, and behavior for women. In this episode of the Far More Podcast, Liz breaks down two passages from the Bible that piece together a portion of what it means to be a Christian woman in today's world. If you find this episode challenging, guess what? A couple of weeks ago Liz talked about the whole "man versus bear" question that was posed to moms of daughters and then went on to share a terribly traumatic experience in her life. Ep 047: Healing from sexual trauma
Would you rather your daughter encounter a random bear in the woods or a random man? 100 out of 100 (yes, you read that correctly) moms answered “bear” and the backlash that women have received from a lot of men for answering this way is staggering and disturbing. One-fourth of American women and a growing number of men have experienced some form of sexual abuse, ranging all the way from inappropriate talk to years of repeated physical violation. Sexual abuse produces emotional, psychological and spiritual damage that devastates some of its victims. In Christ there is healing for people, like me (Liz) and maybe like you, damaged by sexual abuse. As with every other kind of sin-damage in this fallen world, God’s word gives us steps back to wholeness and his truth sets us free.Today I am giving you some Biblical steps to start the healing process and journey to recovery and restoration:1. Recover a biblical view of sex2. Learn the difference between true and false guilt3. Realize that the grip of the past is blocking God’s purpose for your present4. Let Jesus heal your painful memoriesVerses that clearly show God created sex in a holy marriage for our pleasure and enjoyment: Proverbs 5:18-19Ecclesiastes 9:9Song of Solomon 7:6-12Ephesians 5:31If you or someone you know is suffering sexual abuse, please contact the National Sexual Assault Hotline: 1-800-656-4673 (call or text)Want to connect with us? Ep 046: Why does God feel so far away?
Have you ever felt like was nowhere to be found? You're in the middle of a dark season and God just feels distant. You hear other people talking about how incredible their walk with the Lord is or how God is working and moving in their lives and you just feel... nothing. Ep 045: When your prayer life feels... lifeless
For a long time, prayer was just a box to check on my (Liz) spiritual-to do list. It was boring and lifeless, if I’m being honest. I started to question why I was even doing it at all.I have a feeling that I am not the only one who has had this experience with prayer. Maybe you are there right now and you are so frustrated and fed up. I am bringing some really good news to you today! Prayer can be vibrant and life-giving and transformational. And that can start right now.If you haven't listened to episode 44, I highly recommend you do that!Want to connect with us? Ep 044: The Bible doesn't have to be boring
Just the thought of studying the Bible can be overwhelming. Not only do you not know where to start, but you're too intimidated to even begin. You are not alone and it is perfectly normal to have feelings of overwhelm.Sometimes reading the Bible can seem so boring and tedious, but hopefully these three steps that Liz shares today will help you go from being overwhelmed by the daunting task of studying your Bible to overwhelmed by God's words being spoken to you through His written Word. Ep 043: Why is community so important?
Today Liz shares about a local podcast's episode she was interviewed for about building community as well as the local group she created called Craving Far More, a weekly coffee shop meet-up for women to connect and just do life together. If you are looking to connect with other women online, you can request to join the Craving Far More Facebook group. She talks about her feelings of inadequacy and doubting herself, but Jason (being the supportive husband he is), assures her that she did a great job. Jason also opens up about his struggles surrounding building community because of his independent “I’ll do it all myself” nature. They both know that having a community of people to hold you accountable and call you out on your stuff is essential, but it takes a lot of work to get to that point. At one point, Liz tries to convince Jason that she's not an extrovert, but instead an outgoing introvert, and he just isn't buying it. Ep 042: Reflections on Holy Week
What does Easter mean to you? All over the world people celebrate Easter every year. In today's episode of the Far More Podcast, Jason and Liz reflect on Holy Week of 2024 and unpack what Easter (Resurrection Sunday) means to them.Jason talks about how he identifies with Barabbas, who was a criminal that was set free when the Jews chose Jesus, an innocent man, to be crucified instead of Barabbas. What must the rest of his story have looked like when he found out why he was able to go free? Liz shares how emotional the week was for her and how she found herself doubting and just needed a little sign from God that she was on the right path and how He gave her just that.Episode 28 - Peter, the OG of denialYou can view the picture of Jesus that Liz talked about hereEpisode 32 - Liz talked about getting in to the Eremos You can watch this episode over on YouTube here.Want to connect with us? Ep 040: Turning pain into purpose
Liz and Jason have talked about suffering before on the Far More Podcast, but today they want to really dig in and see what God's Word says about suffering. The Bible tells us in Romans 8:28 that anything can be worked out for the good of those who love the Lord, but can we also use our suffering to build community and as part of our ministry? Yes! Galatians 6:2 literally tells us to bear each other's burdens. It's what we're called to do as followers of Jesus. From addiction to mental health and self-inflicted suffering to life circumstances, Liz and Jason talk about it all. The TikTok where the gal talks about addiction not just being a bad habitVerses referenced (and not mentioned) about suffering:Psalm 119:50Acts 14:22Romans 8:18Romans 8:282 Corinthians 12:9-10James 1:2-4You can watch this episode over on YouTube here.Want to connect with us? Ep 039: Liz went to prison
Kairos Prison Ministry is quickly becoming near and dear to Liz and maybe even Jason's hearts. This past weekend, they visited the West TN State Penitentiary (WTSP) to participate in the closing ceremony of the Kairos Walk, a bi-yearly weekend-long event where volunteers go and share the love and forgiveness of Jesus to incarcerated men and women. They recount their experience while there, from the check-in process to literally walking through the prison to finally coming face-to-face with the inmates of the WTSP. They can't wait for you to push play and hear how the Kairos Prison Ministry is being the hands and feet of Jesus and fighting for the forgotten. Please give the volunteers the courage to share Your love with the inmates they meet. Please soften the hearts of the inmates who do not know You. Please be with the families of those who are incarcerated because they are living in a prison of their own. Ep 038: Back to basics: INTIMACY, part 2
In the previous episode, Jason and Liz gave us the first five habits to begin cultivating in order to bring back intimacy in marriage:1. Talk to your spouse2. Learn your spouse's love language and use it 3. Take care of yourself4. Date your spouse5. Flirt with your spouse in a way they respond to positivelyThis week, they're giving us the final five habits to help couples who are in a hard season or just a season of disconnect to reconnect to each other and hopefully reignite that spark! This stuff isn't easy, but these habits are essential if you're wanting to bring back the intimacy in your marriage. These aren't in order of importance, but we do believe you have to start with the first one (communication). Ep 036: Sugar Free: A journey in the making
In today's episode of the Far More Podcast, Liz shares with us a journey that she is going on - a journey to becoming sugar free. While she doesn't know exactly what that looks like yet, she does know that God is calling her to leave behind her old ways and step into a new life that He has for her. She is stepping out in obedience and she is encouraging you to do the same.Jason and Liz talk briefly about their little tiny adventure they went on over President's Day weekend and the adorable tiny house they stayed in (linked below). Jason offers some words of encouragement to Liz, which are her favorite, but he also reminds her that just because she's going on this journey, it doesn't mean that others will be along for the ride. More than that, they may call her silly or make fun of her or even try to discourage her from living a sugar free life.Listen in as they unpack their weekend and talk about Liz's new journey! You can watch this episode over on YouTube here! The 40-Day Sugar Fast by Wendy SpeakeThe 40-Day Sugar Fast Facebook group led by Liz BrockThe cutest little tiny house you've ever seenJason's journey to an alcohol-free lifeNot so fast Are your prayers too safe?Want to connect with us? Ep 035: Elmo wants to know how you are doing
If you need evidence of people hurting, look no further than this seemingly innocuous tweet by Elmo (link to the tweet) where he asks how everyone is doing. Here are some statistics from that one tweet:209 million views158,000 reactions60,000 retweets20,000 saves20,000 commentsHere’s the thing—we need to better at checking on our friends. Not only that, but when our friends check on us, we need to be bold enough to tell them that we’re not ok and we need help. We then need to take it a step further and commit to praying over, and for, those friends who are hurting. The Lord wants us to cry out to Him, and even if we have no idea what to pray, that’s ok because God has given us Jesus and the Holy Spirit, who pray on our behalf when words just fail us. Jesus should be our first lifeline that we call when we’re hurting. Please be encouraged by today's episode of the Far More Podcast and go check on your friends! You can watch this episode over on YouTube here.Want to connect with us? Ep 033: Not so "fast"
Right before Jesus “kicked off” His ministry while here on earth, He was first baptized by JTB (John the Baptist) but then He went into the wilderness and fasted for 40 days. 40 days! Can you imagine going even 40 hours without food? Bet you can’t!Today, Liz and Jason talk about their experience so far with being called into a time of corporate fasting with their church, Faith Arlington. Liz gets real vulnerable and shares a really low moment she had and how the Lord convicted her of food fixation.Jason shares how he’s never been part of a fast like this before, so he is taking it very seriously and wants to be super intentional with why he’s doing it. He also admits that, while his struggles with food aren't the same as Liz's, he does struggle with control. They laugh at their mess-up on the night of day 4, but also get serious about what God showed both of them individually through this misstep. Ep 032: Entering into the quiet with God (Eremos)
What was your immediate reaction when you read the title of this episode? Did it make you uncomfortable? Did you it make you want to skip over this one? Or did it bring you peace and calm?Today, we’re talking about entering into the eremos with God. Eremos: quiet, desolate place. If we want to hear the voice of God, we first have to get quiet and then listen. But this world is so noisy and we often find ourselves crowding out God’s voice with distractions, whether intentionally or unintentionally. It’s time that we get back to putting the first things first, and the first thing we should be doing every single day is getting alone with God to hear from Him.You should definitely watch Andrew’s message from Faith Arlington here. You can watch this episode in video form over on YouTube here.Want to connect with us? Happy New Year to you, sweet friend! Today Jason and Liz reflect on 2023 and look forward to all that 2024 holds. They talk about the challenges they faced in 2023 and who they want to be going forward, both as individuals, but also as a couple. We are made for far more and may this be the year where we all step into our God-given purpose and realize our full potential in who He has called us to be. Jason talks briefly about spiritual warfare versus our sin nature as well as spending super quiet alone time with God, listening to what He wants to say to us.Jason also teaches us a new word: winnowing. Ep 028: Peter, the OG of denial
Peter is known for being a fisherman, part of the inner circle of Jesus’s disciples and for denying Jesus three times. He also walked on water when Jesus was approaching the boat. But he began to sink when he took his eyes off Jesus. “Oh ye of little faith,” was Jesus’s response, but how often do we doubt God’s ability to work in our lives? One of the biggest things Jason took away from this dive into Peter’s life was that he constantly reminded his friends that they were temporary residents here on earth and that is a good word for us today. This is not our “forever home” and we need to stop viewing it as such. Jason even makes me the point that we are doing everything we can to make ourselves nice and comfortable here, but that’s not what we’re called to.You can watch this episode in video form over on YouTube here.Want to connect with us? Ep 027: John, the OG of love
John, the disciple whom Jesus loved. Just ask him, he’ll tell you. But we are actually the ones who Jesus loves and we should be able to say that with as much confidence and boldness as the apostle John did.But did you know that John wasn’t always so loving? He and his brother were actually nicknamed the “sons of thunder.” John even asked Jesus to rain down fire on the people of Samaria at one point! But just like Paul, James and so many others in the Bible, Jesus came along and did a huge work in John’s life and he was forever transformed and became an ambassador of love. He especially encourages us to show love to the outcast, marginalized and forgotten. But this is something we’re still getting wrong today.Kat Von D, famous tattoo artist and former star on her show LA Ink, recently gave her life to Jesus and went public with her faith. Amen, right? Well, her biggest critics and the people she experienced the most vitriol and hate from were those who professed Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Sad reality. Ep 026: James, the OG of personal development
James was the brother of Jesus and for all of Jesus’s life, James did not believe He was the Son of God. It wasn’t until after Jesus died, was buried, rose from the dead and appeared to James that James actually believed. What a relief, right? We aren’t the only ones who sometimes need a little extra help believing. (Lord, help our unbelief). In today’s episode of the Far More Podcast, Liz and Jason discuss the book of James, who Liz refers to as the OG of personal development. James is one of Jason’s favorite books of the Bible as well as one of his favorite people from the Bible because he so closely identifies with them. James was very practical, pragmatic and most of the book is based on acting out your faith. For Liz, however, it is one of the most challenging books of the Bible. Shocker! Ep 025: Paul, the OG of prison ministry
Today we’re talking about Paul, who went from someone who actively spoke out against Jesus and had Christians killed to someone who actively spoke out FOR Jesus and would go on to suffer greatly for the Lord.We talk about how crazy Paul’s transformation was because it was like he did a complete 180 in just a matter of days! Also, big and bold prayers are being prayed for Jason and God is really doing some cool things in and through him and even though they can’t share what’s going on (yet), please just pray for Jason and Liz to get out of the way and let God do His thing. You can watch this episode in video form over on YouTube here. Was Saul’s name later changed to Paul or were they actually just the same name? Ep 023: When our children end up teaching us
Parenting is hard. Raising children who love Jesus and love other people is even more challenging. Our kids look to us as their examples of how to treat others, so it is our responsibility as their parents to love Jesus and show them how to love others well. But sometimes our kids end up teaching us more about showing and sharing the love of Jesus than we do with them. It's in those moments that we need to pause and soak up what they're teaching us.Liz referenced a little prayer that she leads her three kids in every single morning; you can find that here. She likes to change it up every now and then depending on what's currently going on in their town, at the kids' school/with friends or if something is going on globally. You can watch this episode in video form over on YouTube here.Want to connect with us?
