Working with DCS to Get Your Child Back

On today's show, we discuss Working with DCS to Get Your Child Back. A live recording from our Fifth Annual Court & Custody Conference with Janet Bell and Casey Melsek from Department of Child Safety. Sadly, it's not uncommon for children to be removed from their homes. If it happens to you, do you know what to do to protect your rights as a parent, to keep your children safe while they're away from you and how to get them back home? Law enforcement and protective services typically act on reports of abuse or child endangerment. The reports may come from a parent, neighbor, teacher or a complete stranger. If the police respond to the home after being called there, like on a domestic violence incident, they may remove the children if they notice mistreatment or neglect. The Affects of Drinking and Driving

On today's show, we discuss The Affects of Drinking and Driving with Jessica Robinson. This year may go down as one of the worst years for drunk-driving deaths. On average, 28 people a day have been killed in DUI accidents. Jessica Robinson knows the pain a drunk driver can cause because she was one. She said around 1:00am I got in my car and headed home. I had been awake for almost 18 hours and was definitely feeling it. Only minutes from reaching home my eyes started to get heavy and for an instant I closed them, taking my eyes off of the road. When I opened them I was approaching a truck right in front of me, I tried to steer around it but it was too late. Glass breaking, tires screeching, my voice screaming, then silence…Is this a bad dream? It wasn’t... I was there, hanging upside down in my seat, the car had rolled. This was not a dream, this was real, I was alive but someone else was not. The Role of Fathers

On today's show, we discuss The Role of Fathers with Vance Simms. Fathers play an important role in a child's development from birth through adulthood. In fact, numerous studies have reached the same conclusion: Children with involved fathers have an advantage -- socially and academically -- over children with distant or no relationships with their dads. "We found that fathers who are involved with their children have children with fewer problems," says Maureen Black, PhD, a researcher and professor of pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. "That added involvement from a father helps children tremendously." Specifically, her research found better language skills and fewer behavioral problems in children with an actively involved father. Interestingly, this result holds true even if the father doesn't live in the same home as the child -- for example, in divorce situations. It appears that how involved the dad is -- not where he lives in relation to the child -- is the crucial factor. Guest Speaker Information: Father Matters INC. On today's show, we discuss Finding Your Passion with Michael Freeman. If you could do one thing to transform your life, I would highly recommend it be to find something you’re passionate about, and do it for a living. If you’ve got a job you dislike, or even hate, this will sound like a pipe dream to you. And if you never put in the effort to find what you’re passionate about, you’re right: such a thing will never be possible. Let's Talk About Child Support

On today's show, we talk about child support with Favio Verdugo of Division of Child Support Services. The idea behind child support is that the children of divorced or separated parents should live as comfortably as they would have if their parents had stayed together. Most states calculate child support by adding together both parents’ incomes, then setting aside a percentage of the total for their children’s needs. The law surrounding the spending of child support can be complicated. Plus, the facts of each case are unique. This interview provides a brief, general introduction to the topic. When Should Kids Start Brushing?

On today's show we discuss When Should Kids Start Brushing? with Kazandra Barrios. Many parents have a tough time judging how much dental care their kids need. They know they want to prevent cavities, but they don't always know the best way to do so.Even babies can develop tooth decay if good feeding habits aren't practiced. Putting a baby to sleep with a bottle might be convenient, but can harm the baby's teeth. When the sugars from juice or milk remain on a baby's teeth for hours, they can eat away at the enamel, creating a condition known as bottle mouth. On today's show, we discuss Holiday Job Searching with Lindsey Kelly. Are you about to start a job search or are you in the midst of looking for a new job? Are you thinking about waiting to start or putting your job search on hold? If so, think again. Contrary to popular opinion, this is a good time of year to find a job. Employers don't stop hiring just because it's the holidays. In addition, the holiday season is a perfect time of year to network your way to a new job. It can be easier to say "I'm not going to bother, it's a bad time of year for job hunting." than it is to move forward with a job search. However, for those who do keep plugging away, the additional opportunities are worth the effort. Let’s face it — you love your child and at times, you either want to cry, pull your hair out or scream into your pillow. Effects of Fatherhood

On today's show, we discuss the Effects of Fatherhood. The two major structural threats to fathers’ presence in children’s lives are divorce and non-marital childbearing. More often than not, fathers are involuntarily relegated by family courts to the role of “accessory parents,” valued for their role as financial providers rather than as active caregivers. This view persists despite the fact that fathers in two-parent families, before divorce, typically share, with mothers, responsibility for the care of their children. This is both because fathers have taken up the slack while mothers work longer hours outside the home, and because fathers are no longer content to play a secondary role as parents. Most fathers today are keen to experience both the joys and challenges of parenthood, derive satisfaction from their parental role, and consider active and involved fatherhood to be the core component of their self-identity. Representing Yourself in Family Court

On today's show, we discuss Representing Yourself In Family Court with Family Law Attorney Wendy Hernandez. Before getting started, it is important for people to understand that there is a lot to know about court. Do not assume that you understand the law, the process, or the procedures involved. This is not the kind of information that people usually pick up in their everyday lives. People often get ‘advice’ or information from sources who do not necessarily know any more about court than you do. Just because a friend went through a situation that seems to be similar does not mean that yours will be dealt with the same way. Just because you have watched legal shows on television, does not mean that you will understand what to do in the courtroom. Placing Negative Labels on Ourselves

On our show today, we discuss Placing Negative Labels on Ourselves with Dr. David Hatch. Labels are what you call yourself in your head. They are tags that you attach to yourself to describe the person you think you are. Are you a successful career woman, a super mom, a loser, an ugly person, a sex bomb, a “fatty”, a good-for-nothing? We put ourselves in boxes trying to define who we are. We do it to others, and we do it to ourselves. Whether positive or negative, what we whisper to ourselves every day has a great influence on our self-concept, and dictates the direction of our thoughts and actions. More so than the labels attached to us by society. We are what we think we are. While some males get to the top of corporations and government quite well, millions of males are not thriving. In your own community, you may have felt a need to study and positively affect the developmental journey of our boys. In every community, we are seeing more and more boys who need our help, and want us to engage with them in successful ways. Man of the House

On today's show, we have returning guest Chris Radoccia and Richard Cunningham from the radio show MAN UP and LEAD. We have all heard jokes about "who wears the pants in the family." Yet leadership in the home is no laughing matter. During the last few decades our culture has redefined the meaning and responsibilities of man and woman in society and in the home. Many men are confused and insecure. Many do not know how to act in the home. Growing up, they lacked a good model for leadership at home and have no mental picture of what it means to lead a family. Consequently, they do not lead effectively, or they do not even try. Joshua Initiative

On our show today, we discuss the Joshua Initiative with Daniel Sidler. In an age where morals are mocked, manhood is muted, womanhood is defined by independence and lies to youth are prevalent, it’s clear that our nation is in dire need of missionaries. Men and women with the right perspective, boldly and courageously calling for a revival of Godly principles in our nation, neighborhoods, homes but most importantly, our own hearts. We believe that the most influential building block in a good, moral, Godly society is the family. That's why we create grace-based tools that strengthen the family or group of families to help them make a successful impact in the community were God has placed them! Arizona Facts of Life

On today's show, we discuss Arizona Facts of Life with Yolanda Robinson.Yolanda grew up in a poverty stricken area, did not graduate high school, and became a teen mother. Despite all of this, she persevered and was inspired to start Arizona Facts Of Life (AZFOL) after she spent 8 years in the social services field observing the needs of today’s youth while drawing from her own experiences. During her time in social services she has beaten the odds stacked against her from being a teen mom. She earned her GED and made the decision to attend college, earning her Bachelors of Science degree in Family and Human Development from Arizona State University. Yolanda is utilizing her past experiences and observations through Arizona Facts of Life. She uses her past experiences in every facet of her organization in an attempt to make the young ladies understand the importance of education and that success is also possible in their lives Guest Speaker Information: Yolanda Robinson, Founder and Executive Director Email: [email protected] website : azfactsoflife.org WWW.FATHERMATTERS.ORG

Father's vs The Child Support System

On today's show we discuss Father's vs The Child Support System. One manner in which Men’s Rights Activists derail feminist arguments is alluding to instances in which women supposedly experience privilege.Often, they use the court system – and custody battles in particular – as an example. Statistically, it appears that the family courts in the United States are biased against fathers. For example, 83% of mothers receive custody of their children in divorces. Additionally, men are awarded less support on average than mothers who are awarded support. There is also plenty of anecdotal evidence citing situations where mothers were awarded custody in spite of fathers demonstrating interest and potential to provide and care for their children.
