Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

On today's show we discuss SNAP with Jessica Beresford of Father Matters. On average, 42.4 million people in 22.7 million households received monthly SNAP benefits through the first eight months of the 2025 fiscal year (October 2024 to May 2025). The program now known as SNAP began in 1964 but took several years to ramp up. It wasn’t until July 1974 that states – which share administrative duties over SNAP with the federal government – were required to extend it to all jurisdictions within their borders.
