Our Connection with Intoxication (II) (feat. Kaitlin Murphy)

“If it makes you feel good and it works for you, you can’t care about what others think,” says our guest, Kaitlin Murphy, in our sequal episode on human intoxication. As humans, we find ourselves at bars, social gatherings, and spaces reaching for a glass of social lubrication. As we seek that interaction and connection with others around us, we use elements of the world around us to do so. We will discuss the world as we interact with it on this episode. This is part 2 of 2, we’ve opened up the mic to free expression and open conversation!Join me, Taty Santiago, this week on Food for No Thought. Why do humans love intoxication? (feat. Kaitlin Murphy)

As humans, we find ourselves at bars, social gatherings, and spaces reaching for a glass of “social lubrication” as our guest, Kaitlin Murphy, puts it. We enjoy drinking, smoking, and seek intoxaction as a means of connection. We will discuss the science and history of human intoxication. This is part 1 of 2, so look forward to another episode next week! Join me, Taty Santiago, this week on Food for No Thought. Why do we love to feel good?

Imagine this: You are in a field, there is a sweet, floral smell in the air; in this field, butterflies fly freely, trailing from flower to flower; the air is warm. Now, reflect on how that just felt for you. If it felt pleasant, why? What does it really take to feel good? And why do we like to feel good? There has to be some reason for craving good experiences, feelings, and ways of being. We may be closer to joy than we think… than we believe even. Join me, Taty Santiago, this week on Food for No Thought, where we reflect to connect.Native Quote: https://store.wnpa.org/products/soul-would-have-no-rainbow-if-the-eyes-had-no-tears-100019?srsltid=AfmBOopkP5_LG4r7UYj0p9Cv88plVaXaLKyyN8C88mWzqY9Z5JuJmWL5Fresh Beginning Quote: https://quotefancy.com/quote/1575203/Sarah-Chauncey-Woolsey-Every-day-is-a-fresh-beginning-Listen-my-soul-to-the-glad-refrainInside Out Scenes (Sadness & Joy):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0f2L9qoRFUMusic by kaveesha Senanayake from Pixabay

    The Art of Discipline

For ages, living creatures have thrived on discipline. While we may express ourselves fully in artistic and abstract endeavors, to have discipline means to have results and stability. Have you ever explored your curiosities of what it takes to feel disciplined? What routines and lifestyle do you uphold to make discipline your norm? In this week’s episode, we explore what the art of discipline looks like, how philosophers and psychologists view discipline… And even a bit about how we can implement this for ourselves.

    Quoting Philosophers

Ever wonder what philosophers said? In this episode, we'll explore famous quotes said by OG philosophers. It's fun and fresh, so join me!https://www.brainyquote.com/profession/quotes-by-philosophers

  6. 23

The Benefit of a Multigenerational Home

In many cultures, multigenerational family households are common. They make sense, they benefit the family unit, so why don't we participate in this more? How can the modern day "nuclear" family move toward communal living? I have so many questions this episode because I am so curious!!! Let's get to it, listen in and let's explore this curiosity.

  7. 22

    The Power of Intentionality

Do you ever procrastinate? Me too, it's totally normal! In this episode we'll be talking about the presence of intentionality. We don't want to overload ourselves with tasks and ideas. So, how can we be more intentional with our words and actions? Let's talk about it!

  8. 21

    Emotional Nourishment

As we continue our journey into Spring, much of our social lives will start to amplify their activity. It is so important in this time to maintain awareness of our batteries (social, physical, mental, emotional, etc.). We will be using some of our batteries more than others, and this usage can be taxing. In this episode, we discuss how to recharge ourselves and our emotions.

  9. 20

    Embracing Fear When You Fly

Welcome to Season 2! Thank you for joining me again for a new season, and if you are new, welcome to the Food for No Thought podcast. Today we will reflect on last season, discuss the tight boundaries we sometimes set for ourselves, and we will release our old thoughts about fear and embrace change. We all know what it's like to feel afraid before a huge leap in life, let's take that leap together!

  10. 19

    Dehumanizing a Sentient World

Welcome to this week’s episode. Today’s topic is based on a quote delivered to my ol’ brain: “If you just want bodies, I’ll take you to the morgue.” This exploration is based on how society, in general, maximizes production and minimizes the living of humanity. Why live this life if we only invest in advantageous pursuits? Join me, let’s get curious.

  11. 18

    Alchemizing Your Strengths

We have all been gifted strengths. Most of us meet them in daily scenarios and environments, they help give to the collective. Our question of curiosity this week is: just how do we alchemize our strengths? How can we really strengthen our strengths? "Exercise" them really... Let's get curious about this together. I am glad to be back!

  12. 17

    The Intentional Morning

We wake up every day that we’re alive, pretty obvious right? In today’s episode, we will talk about the power of an intentional morning. We bring together mental, physical and self health factors into each morning so we can feel ready for the day. Let’s take a look at why intentional mornings are so vital to our days.

  13. 16

A Calm Mind: The Story Narrative Phenomena

What story do we tell ourselves about our self everyday? Most of us have a pretty solid picture of how we'd like our lives to turn out. It seems quite relaxing to have a plan. Until, of course, life unfolds naturally and we begin to realize that the story we paint may not align with the real life painting. Let us bridge the gap between certainty and uncertainty.

  14. 15

Stop Remembering Life and Just Live It

How much time do we really have on this earth? As far as we know, the next minute is not even guaranteed. This makes us wonder, ponder on the idea of our presentness: our ability to be present in the moment. What does it take to remain aware of this moment? Let’s get curious about how life presents presence for us in each living and waking experience.

  15. 14

    The Privilege of Friendship

The luxury of having friends has made its appearance in my space of consciousness. How lucky are we to experience close connection with those around us? In this episode, we intake gratitude for our friends and expel it abundantly. Let us get curious on why exactly we feel so graced to have friends.

  16. 13

    The Age of Indulgence

Welcome into this week's episode. We will begin our curiosities in the age of indulgence, the present space we are in as a general society. What does indulgence mean for us? How is it relevant to our daily lives? All the many ways we enjoy modern life are attributing to the age of indulgence. As we make awareness of this, it is important we contribute to an overarching balance, together.

  17. 12

    Resting in Affirmations

This week, we’ll be taking a short rest from curiosity and sitting in groundedness. We will engage in deep breathing, affirmations, and gratefulness. May you all find this episode assuring, relaxing, and fruitful. It is my honor to come to you all each week and share the wonders of this life. Next week, our regularly scheduled programming will continue. In the meantime, sit back and listen. Let us rest together, as one. The Intensity of Romance

Ahhh romance... *sigh*. We all know what it's like to feel romance, romantic feelings, or even sense romance in the air. It's embedded in us, some may say it's evolutionary. It's that spark we feel. So, why do we experience this experience of romanticism so intensely? Let's be curious together, dare I say in the essence of romance ;)

  19. 10

    Be Meditative Amongst Chaos

All of us know what chaos is, what it can look like, and especially what it feels like. It’s a natural part of life, chaos, but that doesn’t mean it has to be a space of suffering. Instead, we’ll be focusing on what it means to find meditative energy in the midst of chaotic experiences and/or energies. Let’s take a deep dive into ourselves, find the space that helps us feel peaceful, and invite harmony into our environment.

  20. 9

Grieving The Living While Living (feat. J. Angel)

While the celebration of death and grief is ongoing between the space of late October and early November, reflection of life takes place, often in communion. With my friend, J. Angel, we explore the not so spooky side of grief. Can we accept and allow grief to be a natural part of our lives? If not, what in us rebels to this natural force? Let's explore how grieving relationships, experiences, and spaces feels and looks to each of us.

  21. 8

    Creating Safety for the Body

Here we are, diving into the concept of safety. We all have our version of what safety looks like. I invite you in to be curious about how re-creation of safety in the body feels like to you; is it something you need to do? Or, have you already done it? Either way, let’s inquire about the bodies inter-action with our environment and how we can establish safety and groundedness in our daily lives. Whoosah.

  22. 7

(bonus) the story of Mother Ganja - Cannabis

In a story style manner we will delve into the story of Mother Ganja (cannabis, weed, Mary Jane, etc.). Walk with me from 2727 BC in mountainous China to modern day U.S. —nomads, synergy, and protest influenced this plant’s travel across the globe. Next week, we’ll continue our curiosity of the synergetic connection between our bodies and Mother Earth.

  23. 6

    Thriving in Survival

When we think about living, often times our basic needs come first. We are all programmed to attempt to survive our environments and continue life. Sometimes this becomes a “dog eat dog” mindset, believing that we cannot thrive to survive. The question today is, “Are we willing to force survival or are we willing to deserve our spot here on Mother Earth?”

  24. 5

    The Platinum Rule

As children, many of us were taught The Golden Rule. In this episode, we'll explore a different perspective with a "you-centered" approach. Where can we draw boundaries with ourselves and others? Is it worth it to entertain certain things that don't actually feel natural for us? Let's get curious together.

  25. 4

The Act of Perception (feat. Mars The Artist)

This week we are bringing a friend along to discuss the act of perceiving -- my friend, Mars, will help us unpack this shared experience. Although we all intend to follow our own natural laws, there are times when being perceived and perceiving make life feel altered (even in our own realities). Curiosity about this will unfold, come and join us :)

  26. 3

Shifting the View on Romantic Couplings

Are you also noticing a huge change in the way society views romantic coupling(s)? Same! In this episode we'll dive into the concept of a healthy romantic connection -- breaking it down to the very definition of romance. Join me as we get curious about connecting to the people around us in ways that feel natural to each of us!

  27. 2

    The Forever Effect

Ever thought about “forever” — the concept, the idea, reality, or fear of it? Let’s get into some creative media that breaks down this phenomena. In this episode, we’ll be in the moment together, enjoying our “right now.”

  28. 1

    Let Us Be Children

How often do we not let ourselves be? Probably a lot, right? It’s practical of us to see life as a logistical adventure — after all, it’s most of what we’re taught. Here we discuss childhood learning, adult practices and graceful living. Join me — may this episode allow your internal space to grow and meet reality.
