We need to know the Gospel and our calling and keep ourselves and our church family accountable to them.

Calling is confirmed in community, and both will be costly.

The Gospel is compelling because it’s God’s plan and God’s power changing lives.

Because of Jesus, we don’t have to believe the wrong thing or live for the wrong person.

Galatians is the Good News that no one is beyond the Hope of Jesus, wounds from real friends can be trusted, and self-salvation is silly.

Jesus + Anything Else = False Hope, BUT Jesus + Nothing Else = Real Hope!

Followers of Jesus are called to let the peace of Christ rule in their hearts like an umpire guiding the match of life. Peace is not the absence of problems but the presence of Christ. Everything we say and do should be done in the name of Jesus, as His representatives, with thanksgiving at the center - this is what leads to genuine peace.

As Christians we have a dress code - it is called love. There are certain things that we need to put off and things we need to put on if we are true followers of Jesus.

Colossians 3:5-11 gives a list of sins that might hit us differently if we view the list through either a religious, rebellious, or relationship sense. Pastor Dan explains why a relationship with Jesus gives us the proper framework to battle sin in our lives. “Jesus can kill my sin, but I have to let Him in.”

In this sermon, the Wayne Lewis (President of Houghton University) explores how believers find completeness and life transformation through union with Jesus Christ, pointing back to Colossians 2:9–12. The message emphasizes being spiritually filled in Christ rather than pursuing fulfillment through earthly things. It also includes a call to remember one’s baptism as a symbol of dying to the old self and rising into new life through faith.

Why would I give my life to Jesus?  What's in it for me?  Through this message Drew helps us understand essential beliefs that must underpin the life of a follower of Jesus.  We were dead in our sin. We all were dead because of our sin, but we have been made alive because Jesus forgave all of our sin.  Forgiveness is available through Jesus, and it is a forgiveness of all of my sin.  That forgiveness compels us to live for our Savior.

Through Colossians we have seen essential beliefs about Jesus that must be there for our head and heart to see things clearly. If we want to live a life on mission for Jesus, and if we want to be protected from the world’s ideas of what brings happiness, we need to find our fullness in Jesus. If we find meaning and fulfillment for our life in Jesus, then we won’t be tempted to look anywhere else.

Everyone needs a godly mentor to fulfill the mission that God has given us. What is a godly mentor? A godly mentor has passion for God, seeks growth opportunities, has transparency about their own struggles and what is true, AND they instill these values in the lives of people around them.

Whose truth is really true? Who decides what is true? Pastor Dan help us see that as a follower of Jesus we define truth based on what Jesus says. When you’re connected to Christ, you live with truth and thankfulness rather than the world’s shallow emptiness.

Even when we have a good reason for it, how long are we supposed to stay angry? Forever? This message explores the transformative power of letting go of anger and choosing forgiveness, not because others deserve it, but because we’ve been forgiven by God. Brant Hansen challenges the common belief in "righteous anger," arguing that Scripture consistently calls followers of Jesus to release anger and embrace grace instead. Through humor, personal stories, and biblical insight, Brant reveals that forgiveness is not only commanded by Jesus—it’s the healthiest, most freeing way to live.

Preaching from Colossians 2, Pastor Dan shares the idea that true love for others is shown in how much we’re willing to sacrifice so they can be connected to Christ. Paul’s example of agony for others becomes a model for Christian living—not driven by comfort or cultural idols like success and individualism, but by a heart on fire for Jesus. The sermon also confronts spiritual apathy and challenges the church to stay committed to truth, love, and intentional community. Ultimately, it calls listeners to examine their own priorities and take action to share Christ with others—because if we really care, we won’t settle until they are connected to Him.

Christ in me means that both pain and power are promised. The Good News of Jesus was not that His followers would be without suffering, the Good News of Jesus is that He will be WITH us in our suffering.

Why should Jesus be first? Because of who He is. The real, historical, biblical Jesus will not settle for second class in our universe, in our culture, in our church, or in our lives.
