Here we see the hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Sinners like Peter, sinners like us are invited to "Stand, and have no fear" as Jesus, the Lord of the Law and Prophets fulfills them on our behalf.

This last Sunday marks both the beginning of the church year with the feast of Christ the King AND it marks one year of Heritage Anglican Church meeting together in Puna! This week we see Jesus as the messiah and King we desperately need. Our response to Christ echoes the thief on the cross -- see his beauty, humble ourselves before his authority, and receive his mercy.

Ordinary 23 | Acts 9.32.43 | The Lord Has Bared His Holy Arm
This is the last sermon in the Book of Acts for this year! We finished chapter 9 before heading into Advent with Christ the King Sunday next week. Here we see that Christ is working in the life of his church, in his body, for the redemption of the world. In his Church, in the Body of Christ, God is baring his holy arm and all the ends of the earth will see His salvation!

In the beginning of Acts 6 we see the church struggling with the internal threat of partiality -- favoritism within the church family. The Holy Spirit, through the Apostles responds with wisdom and clarity to overcome this threat and continue to be a true witness to the goodness of God who shows no partiality (Deut. 10).

All humans are looking for divine action, we all long to know that God is among us and is saving us and we really long to see evidence of that in miraculous 'signs and wonders.' This week we see two always present wonders for the christian: the presence of God in his Church and the grace of God in saving us. All other temporary miracles are signs pointing to these permanent miracles.

There is hope here for those who struggle with letting God be in control.
