From CEO to Calling: Finding God's Purpose

In thisepisode, Candice sits down with renowned Atlanta interior designer and former Fortune-level CEO Steve McKenzie for an honest conversation about faith, leadership, loss, and calling. Steve shares his journey from corporate executive leadership—to an unexpected career pivot.   What followed was a season of grief and spiritual reckoning that ultimately led him into entrepreneurship, creativity, and the work he believes God uniquely prepared him to do.    Together, they explore what it means to lead with integrity when outcomes feel unfair, how faith sustains leaders through uncertainty, and why servant leadership, values-based decision-making, and long-term vision matter more than ever. Leading with Prayer, Not Panic

In this solo episode of Holy Business, Candice dives into the story of King Saul as a cautionary tale for leaders today. Drawing from 1 Samuel, she unpacks how Saul's fear, insecurity, and need for control warped his leadership and ultimately cost him his place. Candice explores the danger of clinging too tightly to roles that aren't ours, the temptation to control out of anxiety, and the destructive cycle of fearing when others outgrow us. She contrasts Saul's pride and panic with David's humility and reliance on prayer, challenging leaders to choose faith and obedience over insecurity and micromanagement. With practical parallels for CEOs, pastors, and entrepreneurs, Candice encourages listeners to celebrate rising leaders, pause before reacting out of fear, and remember that healthy leadership is rooted in surrender to God—not in control.

God Was Right: When Scripture Meets Modern Science and the Marketplace

In this deeply insightful and energizing conversation, Candice sits down with author and entrepreneur, Mark Gerson, to unpack the practical wisdom of scripture, and its uncanny alignment with modern social science. Investing and Building Infrastructure With Chris Hawver

"What is an MSP and I don't need one of those yet, do I?" If your firm has been operating in its bubble of safety for years and or you have just gotten started and are growing to new heights, chances are, this may not be something you've looked at or saw a need to engage. Information and Intellectual Property are our most valuable materials, and a few years ago, I worked with a small, highly specialized firm locally that had to rebuild after a major ransomware attack. Were they super known by the public? No.  Were they putting themselves out there on social media or even serving consumers directly? No. Why were they the target? Their files were valuable and accessible, and it cost millions to get them back. Enter ITRA. Chris and his team have a passion for using their knowledge for the good guys, and along the way, he has built a company centered around serving others through their faith and protecting what we have all worked so hard to build.  Join us and hear from someone who is leading from the front while he would prefer to simply not say a word as he aims to protect and teach firms to run with less chance of being tripped up by information tech issues. There is much to learn from those who use their words sparingly and carefully, and I for one, could use a little more of that in myself ;)   Scripture: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity." 1 Timothy 4:12   Thank you to our Special Guest: Chris Hawver, Owner, ITRA Consulting   Host: Candice Hilse, Fix Consultancy Producer: Jody Reynolds, Upline Social

    Where Should you be Outsourcing?

When you are growing, it's easy to get bogged down in tedious tasks, especially in marketing, promotions, and administration. What should you be handing off and how should you do that?  There are so many alternatives to the next full time staff member from a cost basis. Is your organization exploring all the opportunities? Preston Crawford brings us some great insight on not getting bogged down in the details, looking at software and rollouts for efficacy, and how the church can show itself, market, with authenticity. He also has some amazing insight on self reflecting as a lone leader. Scripture Reference: Romans 12:6-8 "In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. Invest in Your Weak Spots and Love People

I sit down with HR and staffing guru, and pastor, Todd Magouyrk. Todd has much to teach us as leaders in vulnerably sharing his weak spots only God can overcome. His story embodies "in my weakness, He is strong." I personally constantly feel this tension of "am I giving everything to God every day or taking things into my own hands?" Todd's message will give you insight into how to exercise the humility to allow God to lead more. He also has some fantastic knowledge and insight for HR teams and for leaders on how to manage your HR teams well. He has found unique ways through business to build relationships and care for others as he points them to Jesus and he has encouragement that we can all do this. Important Show Note: Unaware to us, just a few days after we recorded this interview, Todd was admitted to the hospital with a life threatening battle with pneumonia. He did not want to reschedule, and we celebrate with him and his family that he is returning to health and has resumed business as ususal. His words are inspirational for truly anyone, but this will feel clippy in parts due to his health as we have clipped more pieces where he needed a moment. Second, around 8 minutes in, the dog wanted to join the podcast, so I had to interrupt, but it was in the middle of a good point, so we left it! God Bless Upline Social for putting up with me.   Special Guest: Todd Magouyrk, PuzzleHR and Roots Staffing Host: Candice Hilse, Organizational Strategist and Growth Coach, Fix Consultancy Producer: Jody Reynolds, Upline Social
