Episode 7: Good Friday (SPECIAL EDITION)

Alright, Dear Listener, ready your heart. Today is a doozy. Take it in pieces if you need to. We will sit in confusion, anger, sadness, shock, anxiety and grief with those who were there to witness the death of Life Himself. While we know He did not stay dead, sitting in the darkness of Friday will only make the Light of Sunday burn brighter! This is a special edition episode of monologues written and performed by Yours Truly. I pray that this time of meditation will prepare your heart for the gratitude and victory coming for it soon...but not yet.Carly's Spotify "Holy Week" playlist - https://tinyurl.com/f9bt38wrToday's Songs:  “Jesus Is Betrayed by Judas” through “Isaiah 21 - How Long Till Daybreak”**No extra resources today. I would encourage you to just sit in this day and process all that we have come across together this week. Go back and read through the Scriptures or revisit some of the resources in the other episodes if ya like! Or just take it easy, get outside, get into your body, feel the breeze on your skin and the breath in your lungs. You can know that all that is good comes from Your Heavenly Father and is made possible by His Love, which motivates all the events of our meditations this Good Friday. Episode 5: Spy Wednesday

So....remember how I said the fun is all over after Tuesday.... We already know that people from outside of Jesus's crew are giving Him a hard time/not wanting to believe He is the Meschiach, but would you believe me if me if I told you that one of His VERY OWN FRIENDS did not want to believe it either?! Unfortunately, this man's doubt will spread like a sickness through the whole crew in the coming days, but for now, we talk about Judas Iscariot, the Betrayer.Carly's Spotify "Holy Week" playlist - https://tinyurl.com/f9bt38wrSongs for Today: “Until the End of the World”, "Judas", “Rail” and “Isaiah 50”Resources to Dive Deeper:-Video: BibleProject "The Satan and Demons" (6 mins) - https://tinyurl.com/8cvr6p4u-Video: BibleProject "Chaos Dragon" (4 mins) - https://tinyurl.com/3tde7j2sHoly Week: A Podcast is created, executive produced and hosted by Carly Van Pelt with the extraordinary help of Rob Van Pelt as sound engineer, editor and producer. Episode 4: Holy Tuesday

Today we head back to the Temple with Jesus for *ding ding* ROUND 2 with the Scribes and Pharisees! Come and see how it all plays out. Today's events and yesterday's combined were really the turning point of this week....unfortunately the fun is over y'all. Jesus means business as we head into the latter part of the week.Carly's Spotify "Holy Week" playlist - https://tinyurl.com/f9bt38wrSongs for Today: “Man of Sorrows”, “Isaiah 52/53”, “Sign of Jonah”, “Calloused Hearts”, “The Narrow Way”, “Narrow Road”, “So Will I”, “Isaiah 50” and “Holy”Hebrew Pronunciation and Glossary:-"kohanim" (koh-hah-neem) - means, religious leaders, priests, Levites. Different from Pharisees, who were the very educated class of normal folks who often traveled around with their students teaching God's Word.-"ADONAI" (Ah-dohn-eye), means LORD, only ever used when referring to God, not like Lord, which could be referring to Royal or rich human land owner. This word was used in place of saying the True name of God, Yahweh (yah-way), given to God by He Himself when He first introduced Himself to Moses from a tree covered in Holy Eternal Fire. The Ancient Jews and Jews today had so much respect for Name of God that they would not dare write it or utter it, at all, ever! You might also hear God referred to as ha'shem meaning "The Name".-"Pharisees" (Fair-ah-sees) and "Sadduccees" (Sad-you-sees), these were 2 of the main political and religious factions of Jesus's day in Israel. They each had their own unique characteristics and beliefs. You might find it interesting to know that Sadduccees did not believe in the afterlife, which makes their question to Jesus today all the more interesting.-Torah (tor-ah), literally means Instruction, and refers to the first 5 books of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) including Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Attributed to Moses as Author.-tefellin (teh-fell-een), singular or plural, also called phylacteries in English, refers to a small box containing a mini scroll with scripture on it attached to leather straps and worn either wrapped around the arm or on one's forehead. This was a practice of the ultra-pious of Jesus's day in response to God's command in Deuteronomy 11:18.-tzitziyot, plural or tzitzit, singular (zeet-zee-yote or zeet-zeet), also called fringes in English, refers to the blue and white tassels worn by Ancient (and some modern) Jewish men tied to the hem of their garment as a reminder of the 613 laws or instructions from God in the Torah. Commanded by God in scripture in Numbers 15:38-39.-Gehenna (geh-hen-ah), a literal place, The Valley of Geh-hinom (geh-hee-nohm), also a cultural idea that those around Jesus would have understood as referring to a place of death and suffering, VERY culturally and historically significant. Check out the video below for more!-tzaddikim (zah-de-keem), means righteous ones, specifically in today's passage Jesus is referring to the righteous Prophets (men whom God used to speak to Israel directly) of old. Think Zechariah, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah etc.-Ruach ha-kodesh (roo-akh hah koh-desh), means literally holy breath and refers to God's Spirit, or the Holy Spirit, or Holy Breath of God.-ADONAI Elohim (ah-dohn-eye el-oh-heem), means LORD God. Elohim is actually often used to refer to just any god, not necessarily Yahweh.Resources to Diver Deeper:Video: Explainer for Tefillin and Tzitzit (5 mins) - https://tinyurl.com/nbw6uk4kVideo: Word Study "Gehenna" (1 min) - https://tinyurl.com/y6ayfdk5Podcast: BibleProject "God's Wrath in the Teaching of Jesus" (43 mins) - https://tinyurl.com/mr3acuvwArticle: DesiringGod.com "Some Love Stings" (12 mins w/ audio option) - https://tinyurl.com/bdhy6k5yArticle: DesiringGod.com "The Making of a Modern Pharisee" (13 mins) - https://tinyurl.com/3h5efm75Created, executive produced and hosted by Carly Van Pelt with the extraordinary help of Rob Van Pelt as sound engineer, editor and producer.

    Episode 3: Holy Monday

What do a fig tree and a whip and upside down tables have in common? Have a listen to find out what these rather strange acts of Jesus on His second day in and around the City were all about!Carly's Spotify "Holy Week" playlist - https://tinyurl.com/f9bt38wrToday's Songs: “Man of Sorrows” thru “Temple”Hebrew Pronunciation and Glossary:-"ADONAI" (Ah-dohn-eye), means LORD, only ever used when referring to God, not like Lord, which could be referring to Royal or rich human land owner. You might also hear God referred to as ha'shem meaning "The Name".-"Shalom" (shah-lohm), means peace but carries the idea of wholeness, not like the "peace" we sometimes look for here in this world. Said twice in a row, means "perfect peace" and "wholeness" and often used as a salutation.-"Shabbat" (shah-baht), means literally Sabbath or rest, where we get our word, Sabbatical. Instituted by God Himself on the 7th day of the Creation Narrative in Genesis chapters and 1 and 2. This was the first Holy Feast Day ever instituted by God and therefore the longest running, as observant Jews still practice it every Saturday to this day! Carries the message that man was created not only for work, but for rest too! Both are VERY important to our Creator!-ADONAI Tzva'ot (ah-dohn-eye tsah-vah-oht), means The LORD of Hosts. Signifies God's might and command over all things, Creation, the Cosmos, Angel Armies, all spiritual and natural forces etc.Resources to Diver Deeper:Video: Jalein Abania aka IG Influencer and The Chosen Insider "Reel: Studying Through Jesus Cursing the Fig Tree & Cleansing the Temple" *chef's kiss right here y'all* - https://tinyurl.com/5mwy8mv2Video: The Tabernacle Man "Mosaic Tabernacle Overview Pattern/Layout" (8 mins) - https://tinyurl.com/33wx6j9aVideo: BibleProject "The Temple" (5 mins) - https://tinyurl.com/kxjvjkjbVideo: The Chosen Sleuth "How Accurate is The Chosen Jerusalem Set" (30 mins, a good in depth look at what the Temple MAY have looked like using the set of The Chosen, Season 5) - https://tinyurl.com/msb4rtecPodcast: Bible Project podcast episode I mentioned re: God's Anger. Episode 1: The Sabbath Before Palm Sunday

Welcome to Day 1, Dear Listeners!Today we talk through the events just before Jesus enters Jerusalem for the last time on Palm Sunday. There's some really great stuff here! Come and see!Carly's Spotify "Holy Week" playlist - https://tinyurl.com/f9bt38wrHebrew Pronunciation and Glossary:-"Yeshua" Yesh-shoo-ah - Jesus's name in Hebrew-"Ben-Elohim" ben el-oh-heem - means, son of God. Often used to refer to the people of Israel collectively, but in today's ready seems to be referring to Jesus Himself.-"kohanim" koh-hah-neem - means, religious leaders, priests, Levites. Different from Pharisees, who were the very educated class of normal folks who often traveled around with their students teaching God's Word.-"kohen gadol" koh-en gah-dole - means, The High Priest. This is one of the priestly lineage ("Kohanim"), specifically Aaron's line, who would have been hand-picked and anointed by God to serve as the Highest Priest. This was the only man who could go into the Holy of Holies in the Temple during certain specific Holy Feast Days. He was the mediator between God and the Israelite people. The first Kohen Gadol was Aaron (Moses's brother).-"Judah from Kriot" Joo-dah from Kree-aht - this is Judas Iscariot's name in Hebrew, the ultimate betrayer of Jesus whom we will talk about more later in the week.Resources to Dive Deeper:Website: Tree of Life Bible Society (more about the version I will be reading from this week) - https://bit.ly/4iV1WpZInfographic: Wes Huff Bible Translation Infographic (always keep in mind that this is one man’s opinion as far as where versions fall on the translation continuum, Wes acknowledges this in his IG post as well.) - https://bit.ly/3FVy6CXVideo: BibleProject The Sabbath (5 min) - https://bit.ly/4cdPKxKPodcast: BibleProject Seventh Day Rest series (dive deeper into the Sabbath with this long form podcast series) - https://bit.ly/3Ydi2TmVideo: Messianic Rabbi Explains Passover (27 min) - https://bit.ly/4iXQFoOVideo: The Chosen Sleuth discusses The Chosen's depiction of Mary Anointing Jesus at Bethany (19 mins) - https://tinyurl.com/m6s3m7tjVideo: BibleProject Anointing (3 mins) - https://tinyurl.com/yasx8j3tBook: "Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus" by Ann Spangler & Lois Tverberg - Amazon link: https://a.co/d/apkdbIZHoly Week: A Podcast is created, executive produced and hosted by Carly Van Pelt with the extraordinary help of Rob Van Pelt as sound engineer, editor and producer.
