How To Make Sure Your Content Reaches The Right Audience & Has a Positive Impact
Meta is planning to reduce fact-checking and moderation on its platforms, all in the name of free speech and expression. Now, while this might sound great on the surface, there are some serious implications—both good and bad—that you need to know about. Let’s break it down. NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES 1️⃣ More Disinformation – With less fact-checking, we could see a rise in misleading news, deepfakes, and conspiracy theories, making it harder than ever to separate truth from fiction. 2️⃣ Increase in Hate Speech & Toxic Content – X has already shown that when you dial back moderation, hate speech, harassment, and harmful content go up. This could create a more hostile online environment. 3️⃣ Brand Safety Risks – For businesses, influencers, and content creators, this lack of moderation might mean your ads or content could be placed next to controversial or offensive material, damaging your reputation. POSITIVE CONSEQUENCES 1️⃣ More Free Speech & Expression – Users will have fewer restrictions on what they can post, which means more diverse perspectives and less censorship from centralized fact-checkers. 2️⃣ More Engagement & Debate – With fewer content limitations, conversations might become more dynamic, allowing users to engage in open discussions—even on controversial topics. 3️⃣ Less Shadowbanning & Algorithmic Suppression – If you’ve ever felt like your content wasn’t reaching people because of hidden moderation rules, this change could mean a fairer playing field for creators. HOW TO MAKE SURE YOUR CONTENT REACHES THE RIGHT AUDIENCE & HAS A POSITIVE IMPACT 1️⃣ Verify Before You Share – With fact-checking being reduced, it’s on us to make sure what we post is accurate and credible. Always check multiple sources before spreading information. 2️⃣ Engage in Positive Conversations – With a potential rise in hate speech, stand out by leading meaningful discussions. Avoid toxic debates and focus on building a community around your content. 3️⃣ Adapt Your Strategy for Visibility – The algorithms may shift, so experiment with different types of content (video, carousels, text posts) to see what resonates best. Also, keep an eye on Meta’s updates to stay ahead of the changes. At the end of the day, these changes are coming, whether we like them or not. What matters is how we use these platforms to create impact, build brands, and share valuable ideas. What do you think? Will these changes make Meta better or worse? Let me know in the comments! And don’t forget to follow How to Make it in Toronto for more insights.

How to Foster Creativity and Idea Generation
1. Create the Right Environment for Creativity - Step 1: Remove Distractions Designate a dedicated, clutter-free space where you can focus. Turn off notifications and minimize interruptions to let your mind roam freely. Insight: Creativity thrives when your mind has space to wander without being bombarded by outside stimuli. - Step 2: Incorporate Stimuli That Inspire You Surround yourself with things that spark curiosity—books, art, music, or even nature. These serve as catalysts for new ideas. Example: Steve Jobs often cited nature walks as critical to his creative process. - Step 3: Encourage Collaboration Invite diverse thinkers into brainstorming sessions. Different perspectives can ignite unique solutions. Actionable Tip: Organize “idea jam sessions” with your network. --- 2. Practice Divergent Thinking - Step 1: Ask Open-Ended Questions Shift your mindset from “What is?” to “What if?” or “How might we?” to explore untapped possibilities. Example: Instead of asking “How do I grow my business?” ask, “What unconventional ways can I connect with my audience?” - Step 2: Freewrite or Mind Map Dedicate time to write or visually map out ideas without judgment. Allow the ideas to flow without editing. Actionable Tip: Use apps like Miro or pen and paper for a digital detox brainstorming session. - Step 3: Explore Analogies and Metaphors Relating one idea to another can lead to breakthrough moments. Insight: Think of an unrelated field—how might a chef’s approach to creativity inform your content creation? --- 3. Cultivate a Growth-Oriented Mindset - Step 1: Embrace Failure as Feedback Understand that every idea doesn’t need to be perfect. Each misstep provides insights that refine your creative process. Example: Thomas Edison’s countless failed attempts at creating the lightbulb were stepping stones to success. - Step 2: Commit to Lifelong Learning Constantly expose yourself to new knowledge through books, courses, or conversations. The more inputs you have, the more connections your brain can make. Actionable Tip: Dedicate 20 minutes a day to learning something outside your field. - Step 3: Take Breaks and Recharge Creativity often emerges during periods of rest. Incorporate regular breaks into your workflow to avoid burnout. Example: Many great ideas come while showering or during a walk because the brain has time to process subconsciously. --- Podcast challenge: A practical challenge for our listeners: - “This week, dedicate 15 minutes a day to one of these techniques. Share your most creative idea with us on social media using #HTMITCreativity. We might feature your story in an upcoming episode!”

The Ultimate Guide: How to Manage Work Life Balance
Managing work-life balance as an entrepreneur is crucial for maintaining well-being, preventing burnout, and achieving sustainable success. Here's a detailed step-by-step breakdown: 1. Set Clear Boundaries: - Establish clear boundaries between your work life and personal life. Define specific times for work and leisure activities to prevent work from encroaching on personal time. 2. Prioritize Tasks: - Prioritize tasks based on their importance and urgency. Focus on high-impact activities that align with your goals and delegate or eliminate tasks that are less critical. 3. Create a Schedule: - Create a structured schedule that allocates time for work, leisure, family, exercise, and relaxation. Stick to your schedule as much as possible to maintain consistency and routine. 4. Practice Time Management: - Implement effective time management techniques, such as the Pomodoro Technique or time-blocking, to maximize productivity during work hours and create dedicated time for rest and relaxation. 5. Delegate and Outsource: - Delegate tasks that can be handled by others to free up time for more strategic activities or personal pursuits. - Outsource non-core functions such as administrative tasks, accounting, or marketing to external professionals or virtual assistants. 6. Set Realistic Goals: - Set realistic and achievable goals for your business and personal life. Break down larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks and celebrate progress along the way. 7. Practice Self-Care: - Prioritize self-care activities such as exercise, meditation, hobbies, and spending time with loved ones. Schedule regular breaks throughout the day to recharge and rejuvenate. 8. Establish Work-Life Integration: - Strive for work-life integration rather than strict separation. Identify opportunities to combine work and personal activities, such as exercising during lunch breaks or attending networking events with family members. 9. Communicate with Stakeholders: - Communicate openly with clients, employees, and business partners about your boundaries and availability. Set realistic expectations regarding response times and availability outside of regular business hours. 10. Set Technology Boundaries: - Establish boundaries around technology use to prevent constant connectivity and interruptions. Schedule designated times to check emails and messages, and consider implementing tools to automate or streamline communication. 11. Learn to Say No: - Learn to say no to commitments, projects, or requests that don't align with your priorities or values. Focus on activities that contribute to your personal and professional growth and decline distractions that derail your focus. 12. Seek Support: - Surround yourself with a support network of friends, family, mentors, and fellow entrepreneurs who understand the challenges of managing work-life balance. Lean on them for guidance, encouragement, and perspective. 13. Regularly Evaluate and Adjust: - Regularly assess your work-life balance and make adjustments as needed. Reflect on what's working well and what could be improved, and be willing to adapt your approach based on changing circumstances. 14. Celebrate Successes: - Celebrate achievements and milestones in both your professional and personal life. Acknowledge your hard work and progress, and take time to appreciate the moments of joy and fulfillment along the way. By following these steps, you can cultivate a healthy work-life balance that allows you to thrive as an entrepreneur while also enjoying a fulfilling personal life.

In this 1 on 1 I share 12 tips that help with finding a mentor. Hopefully this helps you on your journey and you gain insights that help you both professionally and personally. Here are 12 tips to help with finding a mentor. 1. Self-Reflection: Before seeking a mentor, take time to reflect on your goals, strengths, weaknesses, and areas where you need guidance. Understand what you hope to achieve through mentorship. 2. Define Your Needs: Determine the specific skills, knowledge, and experiences you seek in a mentor. Clarify what you expect from the mentor-mentee relationship. 3. Identify Potential Mentors: Look for individuals who have achieved success in your field or possess expertise relevant to your goals. This could be through networking events, professional associations, social media platforms like LinkedIn, or through referrals from colleagues and friends. 4. Research: Once you've identified potential mentors, research their background, accomplishments, and values to ensure they align with your goals and values. Understand their approach to mentorship and whether they have a track record of helping others succeed. 5. Engage with Potential Mentors: Reach out to potential mentors through email, social media, or in person if possible. Craft a personalized message expressing your admiration for their work and explaining why you believe they would be a valuable mentor to you. Be respectful of their time and make it clear that you're willing to reciprocate value in the relationship. 6. Build Rapport: If a potential mentor responds positively, take the opportunity to build rapport. Schedule a meeting or call to further discuss your goals and aspirations. Show genuine interest in their insights and experiences. 7. Formalize the Relationship: Once both parties agree to proceed, establish clear expectations and boundaries for the mentorship. Determine the frequency and format of meetings, communication channels, and goals for the relationship. 8. Be Proactive: Take initiative in scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, and following up on action items discussed during mentorship sessions. Show your commitment to growth and improvement. 9. Breakthrough Strategies for Creatives
The Endy Story: On today's episode, we sit down with the former Creative Director of Endy the online Mattress company that sold to Sleep Country for $89 million dollars Ameet Nathwani. As an entrepreneur in the city of Toronto and more specifically a visible minority entrepreneur, I personally look for people who have similarities both physical and mental to me. With the hope of learning from their journey and using their experience or path and lessons learned to apply to my journey. I met Ameet, through our respective friend and Business partner Vibhu at talkAItive. I learned that Ameet had joined the team as our Creative Director. When I took the time to research Ameet, (LinkedIn search) I quickly learned that he played an integral role in one of the best and well known eCommerce success stories in Canada, the Endy story. A box mattress eCommerce business that sold to Sleep Country for $89M… $89M From mattresses, in a box, online? How??? Being an eCommerce company marketing, branding, and content creation; basically creative as a whole were essential to Endy’s success and here I sit next to the guy who brought that dream into a reality. I got the chance to work with Ameet on a day-to-day basis for about 4 months. In that time safe to say, I learned a lot. For one my writing skills improved tenfold. Quick story, Something I took from working with Ameet was how to approach each person you speak to on their level and speak in their language. Essentially, If you’re addressing a CEO don’t write an email that you would send to a marketing manager. Take the time to understand what’s important to them, to their team, and to their organization. Be clear and direct about your goal and outline exactly what outcome they can expect. Otherwise, you’re wasting their time as well as yours. It was lessons like this that led me to believe even know that Ameet would make the perfect guest. He always took the time to sit down with me and explain process, and strategy and clearly outline execution. Time I can never thank him enough for. So I thought the best thing I could do to return the favor is to pick his brain and share his amazing story with you. I’m sure you’ll hear some amazing insights as well. Ladies and Gentleman Ameet Nathwari. 👏👏
