#52 - Mustafa Warsi: Reenchanting Reality, Interpreting Symbols & Finding God

To bring In Good Faith’s first year to a close, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Mustafa Warsi. We discussed his spiritual and intellectual journey, his critique of modernity, and proposals for how human beings can recover their connection with the divine. Having only got to know Mustafa relatively recently, I found this conversation very refreshing and insightful. Mustafa studied Mathematics at Cambridge University and has worked in the financial services industry for almost a decade. His work has spanned consulting for major global corporations, teaching post-graduate courses at one of the world’s leading business schools about AI, the future of work and leadership, as well as delivering training courses on focus and productivity, drawing on his business book, Distracting Ourselves to Death.Uniquely, Rehan is also a multi-series novelist. #49 - Naz Shah MP: My Journey from Tragedy & Horror to Faith, Power & Honour

I sat down with Naz Shah, Member of Parliament for Bradford West, on 5th March 2026 - the day her shocking and powerful autobiography was released. Entitled “Honoured: Survival, Strength and My Path to Politics”, it’s a truly remarkable story that focuses on Naz’s immensely difficult childhood - one marred by poverty, violence, forced marriage and a lack of formal education - and her subsequent journey as a campaigner and politician, which all began with an arduous journey to pursue justice for her imprisoned mother who had experienced extreme levels of abuse over many years. We can all learn lessons from Naz’s resilience, her inspiring faith and love for God, as well as her unflinching commitment to public service.Follow NazBuy the book(0:00) Trailer(1:38) The book’s origin story(12:20) Cover and title(19:01) How Naz’s faith has evolved(33:59) The night before Naz’s first election(39:01) An excerpt on trusting God(42:04) Honouring Naz’s mum(53:47) How to be faithful as a politician(59:38) Refraining from being judgemental(1:07:55) Healing, compassion & forgiveness (1:21:11) Politics & life in Bradford(1:35:13) National politics and future ambitions

#45 - Saad Yacoob: Moving Insights on Creativity & Revival from the Legendary Iqbal

I came across a couple of Saad Yacoob's Substack articles in 2025, and knew straight away that I had to get him onto the show. When I then learned that his PhD was centred on the famous Muhammad Iqbal - after whom I was named - I was even more keen to do so. Our paths crossed unexpectedly in Doha and we sat down for an impromptu chat. Saad didn't disappoint. This was easily one of my favourite conversations of In Good Faith so far. It was an honour to host Dr Yasir Qadhi, a prolific public intellectual and someone I respect deeply for his courage to speak his mind, often in the face of much hostility.I picked his brain on several issues: sectarianism and division, whether religious labels are helpful or harmful, patriotism and emigration, theophany and salvation, as well as exclusivism, inclusivism and pluralism. Leadership by Women and Young People - there's a LONG Way to Go [#11 Highlight]

Women and young people are still often excluded or underestimated in community leadership, forcing many women to create their own institutions rather than wait for permission or support. While progress and visibility have improved, deep structural and cultural barriers remain especially around leadership design, funding, and real accountability making change slower than rhetoric suggests. #42 - Prof James Walters: A Christian View on Nationalism, Pluralism & Religious Resurgence

Why are Bible sales and Church attendance on the rise? Why are far-right nationalists invoking Christian beliefs and symbols? James is founding director of the LSE Faith Centre and LSE Religion and Global Society. He is a Professor in Practice, affiliated to the Department for International Relations and an associate of the LSE Department of International Development.James studied theology at Cambridge University and writes on the interface of theology, philosophy, and political science. #41 - Dr Mamnun Khan: Muslim Identity Needs to Shift to Substance Over Form

Like me, Dr Mamnun Khan has a big issue with how we understand basic terms such as "Muslim"... but we differ on the best practical way forward. Much of this discussion was dedicated to hashing out questions of identity, not just in terms of how we see ourselves, but also how we see and relate to others. Dr Mamnun is the author of Being British Muslims: Beyond Ethnocentric Religion and Identity Politics, and a Fellow at Equi think tank. He explores the topics of identity, Islam, and the social integration of Muslims in contemporary Britain. His work critically examines the challenges and opportunities faced by British Muslims, advocating for a balanced God-centred approach that transcends ethnocentrism and ideological extremes. In his spare time, Mamnun advises a number of UK organisations on projects and strategy. He has over 20 years of experience in corporate management and strategy in the science and tech sector. #40 - Dr Roger McFillin: There is a Dark Agenda to DISCONNECT You from God

A top clinical psychologist who speaks about the importance of putting God at the centre of discussions around mental health? That’s an unusual mix nowadays and it’s what got me interested in speaking with Dr Roger McFillin, who has over two decades of experience in his field but who is also rebelling against much of what is practised within it. He’s on a determined mission to expose the harsh truths about the mental health industry that others avoid or overlook, and his Radically Genuine podcast is a hard-hitting exploration of what it really takes to overcome life's toughest challenges, free from the constraints of traditional therapy-speak. More recently he’s been writing and speaking about the deliberate and dark attempts by powerful proponents of the transhuman agenda to rob us of our connection with God and, in the process, dehumanise us completely. #39 - Dr Wajid Akhter: Why Muslims Are POWERLESS And What We NEED To Do About It

In this conversation, I sat down with Dr Wajid Akhter to reflect on his first year as Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain. It was a sobering - and at times shocking - exchange. His verdict: Muslims are facing multiple, urgent, interconnected crises, yet they are not responding with the speed, coordination or seriousness the moment demands. We touched on a whole host of issues: from mental health problems and youth disengagement to health inequalities, political powerlessness and institutional inertia... not to mention Gaza and grooming gangs. So what is the solution? What is MCB doing about it? Is it being sufficiently backed by the very community it exists to serve and represent? In addition to his voluntary MCB role, Dr Wajid Akhter works as a GP. He is the founder of Charity Week, as well as a founding member of the British Islamic Medical Association (BIMA) and the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management. DON’T Let Your Past Define Your Future [#7 Highlight]

Most people feel trapped because they let past decisions, social expectations and fear define their future, instead of first identifying their true ideal. Are Muslim Legal Frameworks Still FIT FOR PURPOSE? [#6 Highlight]

Muslim legal tradition ended up crystallising in four schools of law: Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali. But does it need to be this way forever more? Some insist that no change is needed and that for a person to adhere unquestioningly to one of them is vital. Others claim that these schools remain invaluable in theory but they need radical revision in practice. Still others that they should all be done away with and something else needs to take their place if we are to confront seriously the significant challenges of the day. Whatever one's view, it seems clear that the contemporary situation is very messy and that it confuses most people who want to do the right thing. I've never been a fan of MyTenNights (MTN), the charity platform that has facilitated over $100m of donations by offering timed contributions on the Night of Decree (laylatul-qadr) in the month of Ramadan. Now it seems that the person who founded it, Ismael Dainehine, isn't too much of a fan of what he built either! We spoke about his recent and very significant turning point in how he understands the purpose and contemporary reality of charitable activities, and also how the absence of a sound monetary system undermines the possibility of the very outcomes that aid is intended to achieve. The real power of Bitcoin, says investment expert Muhammed Yesilhark, lies in its intrinsic properties that make it a form of digital gold, i.e. a form of sound money that can protect your savings, help you win back your time and lead to more peaceful, prosperous and purposeful societies. If all this sounds too good to be true... well this conversation is for you. Muhammed is Chief Investment Officer at Noia Capital, Board Member at Dubai Chambers and Co-founder & President at EverGive. He combines years of experience at the highest level of the investment management industry with a proactive approach to philanthropy and a faithful concern for the future of humanity, which he believes will depend in large part on the reestablishment of sound money. #31 - Tarek El Diwany: The SAD Reality Of Our BROKEN Monetary System

I sat down with the wonderful Tarek El Diwany after the recent publication of the 4th Edition of his hugely influential book: The Problem With Interest. We revisited some familiar themes of his work - namely the great harms of interest-based economies and the ills of fiat money creation - as well as his views on Bitcoin as a form of sound money. Tarek also shared his thoughts on whether there is any hope of saving ourselves from the sinking ship in which we all find ourselves. #29 - WHY Muslim identity is IRRELEVANT & HOW Muslim strategy is REDUNDANT

One of my central convictions and most contrarian ideas is that the ways in which we use the terms "Islam" and "Muslim" - not to mention their various transliterated derivatives such as "Islamic" and "non-Muslim" - are inauthentic, inaccurate, misleading and divisive. The identity and strategy of what is supposed to be a deeply faithful and universally impactful community has instead become irrelevant, redundant and insular, in large part because of the misunderstanding and misuse of these foundational terms.I realise that these are significant claims with massive potential consequences for the way believers understand, organise and represent themselves. But, based on my learning and experiences over the last decade in particular, I have come to see them as almost indisputable. I only say 'almost' because I always try to keep an open mind, no matter the level of my conviction. So I welcome critical responses, as long as they're shared... in good faith. With thanks to my highly capable guest host Ali Siddiqui, this episode is a thorough exploration of the above ideas. There is always a lot more to say, which will perhaps follow in due course, if God wills. But if you can't wait...- for a detailed exploration of all 72 nominal and verbal references to the root "aslama / yuslimu" found in revelation, see here: https://www.iqbalnasim.com/products/club-revelation/categories/2152673277- for a related article, see here: https://www.iqbalnasim.com/blog/the-problem-with-islam-and-muslims- read The Meaning and End of Religion: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Meaning-Religion-Wilfred-Cantwell-Smith/dp/0800624750(0:00) Trailer(1:07) Review of In Good Faith so far(7:02) Isn't it too late for change?(16:03) Transcending "us and them"(24:10) The tyranny of doctrine(30:17) Tackling our shared challenges(42:32) Universal values & universal concern(51:12) Being deeply in our context(1:17:20) Reconciling revelation with reality(1:34:30) Practical ideas for a better future(1:45:11) The importance of courage

Jehangir Malik OBE is Interim Director of the Asylum Reform Initiative, the alliance behind the Together With Refugees campaign coalition. He has over 30 years of leadership experience in local and national civil society institutions, notably having run both Muslim Aid and Islamic Relief UK, two of the country's most well-established, faith-based humanitarian organisations. I very much enjoyed Jehangir's well-informed and no-nonsense assessment of topical issues - immigration, political division and the kind of introspection needed by Muslims - as well as his practical advice and solutions for these difficult times.
