Torah vs. Nomos: Revealing the True Essence of God's Teachings and Instructions Torah doesn't actually mean law. Torah is best translated as teachings, guidance, and instructions. Jews during the era of Christ would not have seen the word of God as something so restrictive. That job was left to the Pharisees and Sadducees. It wasn't until later when the Hellenistic Jews translated the Hebrew word Torah into the Koine Greek word Nomos. In Psalm 19: 105, it says your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. showing the guidance of God. King David says in Psalm 23. God leads him in the path of righteousness for his namesake. Let's unpack that. The pathway of righteousness shows us a very deep insight When King David was a young shepherd, he would have obviously gathered cattle. Cattle loved to play follow the leader. and shepherds would take an elder cow and lead it through paths so that the herd would know how to follow. When King David says in Psalm 23, how you lead me in the paths of righteousness, he wasn't merely being poetic. He was saying guide shows me the way in Psalm 19 in verses 7, 89. The word of God is called perfect, which means sound, right, which means to be pleasing, and it is also called true. which means that it is reliable.
