Talk About That - Scary Teens, Terminators, & Persistent Prayers

Meanwhile, Jonnie reveals the surprising star who was rejected for the lead role in the original Terminator movie and tells the tale of Fred Turner, the man who walked across America. Plus, a conversation about asking, seeking, and knocking—and why our persistence in prayer sometimes matters more than the prayer itself. Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Ben... - How to Manage Intrusive Thoughts Through Biblical Truth & Brain Science
Episode Summary: If you’ve ever felt ambushed by intrusive thoughts, unwanted mental spirals, or the kind of anxious loops that hijack your peace, you’re not alone—and you’re not powerless. In this episode of Your Hope-Filled Perspective, we’re diving into the intersection of biblical truth and brain science, exploring how God designed your mind, why intrusive thoughts show up, and how to interrupt them with evidence-based strategies and Scripture-anchored truth. Whether you struggle with anxiety, guilt, catastrophizing, or “what-if” thinking, you’ll learn practical, hope-filled tools to renew your mind, reclaim your thought life, and experience the calm your soul has been craving. In honor of mental health awareness month, today we’re going to talk about How to Manage Intrusive Thoughts Through Biblical Truth & Brain Science. Quotables from the episode: You are not at the mercy of your mind. A thought is not a fact. A thought is not a sin. A thought is not your identity. A thought is not your destiny. The amygdala can’t tell the difference between a genuine threat, a hypothetical threat, or a lie masquerading as danger. Romans 12:2 isn’t metaphor, it’s biology: ‘Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.’ You can’t control the first thought, but you can control the next one. Intrusive thoughts thrive in internal chaos; they shrink in stillness. This is just a thought, not a truth, and not a command. You cannot ‘stop thinking’ your way out of intrusive thoughts; you must redirect them. When the body calms down, the amygdala shuts off, and intrusive thoughts lose their volume. You are not losing your mind. You are learning to renew it. Scripture References: Romans 12:2 “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” 2 Corinthians 10:5 “Take every thought captive.” Colossians 3:2 “Set your mind on things above.” Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.” Philippians 4:8 “Whatever is true… think about such things.” Romans 8:6 “The mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace” Psalm 46:1 “God is my refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” Romans 8:1 “There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus.” 2 Corinthians 12:9 “My grace is sufficient for you.” 1 John 4:18 “Perfect love casts out fear.” Matthew 6:34 “Do not worry about tomorrow.” Philippians 1:6 “He who began a good work in you will carry it to completion.” Recommended Resources: Free Stress-Response Personality Assessment Sacred Scars: Resting in God’s Promise That Your Past Is Not Wasted by Dr. Michelle Bengtson The Hem of His Garment: Reaching Out To God When Pain Overwhelms by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner AWSA 2024 Golden Scroll Christian Living Book of the Year and the 2024 Christian Literary Awards Reader’s Choice Award in the Christian Living and Non-Fiction categories YouVersion 5-Day Devotional Reaching Out To God When Pain Overwhelms <a

Thinking Christian: Clear Theology for a Confusing... - Faith in the Age of Reason: Navigating the Journey of Modern Theology
How did we get here? From the Enlightenment to the rise of Postmodernism, the landscape of what we believe about God has shifted beneath our feet. In this episode of Thinking Christian, Dr. James Spencer sits down with renowned theologian Dr. Roger E. Olson (Emeritus Professor at Baylor University) to map out the fascinating—and often turbulent—history of modern theology. They explore the tension between tradition and the "modern mind," discussing how giants like Schleiermacher, Barth, and Bonhoeffer navigated a world that was rapidly deconstructing old certainties. Whether you're a theology nerd or just trying to understand the intellectual roots of your own faith, this conversation provides a vital compass for the journey. In this episode, we discuss: The "Modern" Dilemma: What happens when theology tries to accommodate the demands of the Enlightenment? Reconstruction to Deconstruction: Understanding the shift from building grand systems of thought to the skepticism of the 21st century. The Giants of the Faith: Why figures like Karl Barth and Dietrich Bonhoeffer still matter for your walk with Christ today. The Evangelical Response: How believers can engage with modern ideas without losing the core of the Gospel. Finding Your Place: How understanding the history of ideas helps you situate your own beliefs in a chaotic world. Your Nightly Prayer: Evening Prayers for Christian... - Held In Steady Love
Sometimes, especially when we have experienced rejection from those closest to us, we can feel unloved and unwanted — as though we have failed to meet expectations, let someone down, or simply come up short of what was needed from us. And when those wounds run deep, it can be difficult to receive the truth that God not only loves us, but delights in us. Yet that is exactly what Zephaniah 3:17 proclaims. Not just that God tolerates us, or patiently endures us, but that He rejoices over us — with singing. Consider the love a parent has for a child. A child's imperfections do not push a tender parent away. If anything, they draw the parent closer — softening the heart, deepening the bond, stirring a love that has nothing to do with performance and everything to do with belonging. That compassionate, tenderhearted love does not come from within ourselves. It comes from God, whose image we bear, and who is — as 1 John 4:8 tells us — pure love. This is how God loves us. Not a surface, shifting love that rises and falls with our behavior or what we have to offer. His love flows from who He is, not from who we are. It is steady. It is steadfast. And when He looks at us, He sees not only who we are, but who we are becoming — covered in the righteousness of His Son. Tonight, whatever rejection or disappointment you are carrying, you are invited to set it down at the feet of a Father who is not disappointed in you. He is with you. He saved you. And even now, He rejoices over you with singing. Let that be the last thing you hold onto before you rest. What You'll Take Away Discover why our weaknesses and frailties do not push God away — and how, like a loving parent, they may actually deepen His tenderness toward us You'll learn how the love we have for our own children can become one of the most powerful windows into understanding how God feels about us Discover what it truly means that God "rejoices over you with singing" — and how Zephaniah 3:17 speaks directly into seasons of rejection and self-doubt You'll learn why God's love is rooted in His character, not your performance — and what that means for the moments when you feel like you have fallen short Tonight's Scripture "The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing." — Zephaniah 3:17, NIV "We love because He first loved us." — 1 John 4:19, NIV "God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God." — 2 Corinthians 5:21, NIV Your Evening Prayer Father, Thank You for holding us in Your steady love — a love that does not waver when we are weak, does not withdraw when we disappoint, and does not depend on what we have managed to offer You today. Open our hearts tonight to truly receive that You are with us, that You saved us, and that You rejoice over us with singing. Guard our minds from the voices that tell us otherwise. Free us from unbelief. Where rejection has left its mark and made Your love hard to receive, soften those places with Your truth. Help us rest tonight not in what we have achieved or how we have performed, but in the simple, steadfast, singing love of a Father who delights in His children. In Jesus' name, Amen. Want More? Crosswalk Talk: Celebrity Christian Interviews - Kyle Idleman on The Missing Messiah and the Jesus We've Redefined
Kyle Idleman, Senior Pastor of Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Kentucky, has watched a generation fall in love with Jesus without ever submitting to Him. The Missing Messiah, co-authored with Mark E. Moore, starts with a Michael Jordan illustration that says it all: millions feel connected to Jesus the way fans feel connected to a logo, through cultural association and name recognition, without ever being close enough that following Him actually costs them something. Discipleship, the Jesus we have domesticated, and what it means to follow a King: Kyle unpacks why the word Christ is not a last name but the New Testament equivalent of Messiah, why belief without following is not the faith of the Gospels, and what it looks like when someone treats Jesus like a drawer in the dresser of life rather than the dresser everything else fits into. He also shares what he is seeing in the spiritual awakening happening on college campuses right now, why awakening without alignment will miss the moment, and what questions every believer should be asking themselves about their bank statements, their politics, and the last time following Jesus actually cost them something. Highlights Why Christ is not Jesus's last name but a title meaning Messiah and King, and why that changes everything The Michael Jordan illustration and how cultural association with Jesus is not the same as knowing Him Why a man leaving Kyle's church because it "interfered with his life" was actually the point The Netflix faith problem, how we have built a Jesus who matches our preferences and filters out anything that doesn't Why the dresser illustration matters, Jesus is not a drawer in the dresser of life, He is the dresser itself How making Jesus in our own image is not a Western problem but a human one that goes back to the Crusades and beyond What questions Kyle challenges believers to ask themselves when they stop and honestly examine their lives Why spiritual awakening without spiritual alignment will miss the greatest opportunity of a generation Resources / Links / CTA Kyle Idleman website: https://www.kyleidleman.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kyleidleman Book: The Missing Messiah Southeast Christian Church: https://www.se.church/watch Follow, share, and explore more of Crosswalk Talk Follow, share, and subscribe for more faith-driven conversations on Lifeaudio Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

Everyday Prayers with Million Praying Moms - A Prayer to Surrender Control to the True Vine

It's a little too relatable.LINKS:Download How to Pray God's Word for Your ChildrenFollow Everyday Prayers @MillionPrayingMoms A Prayer to Surrender Control to the True Vine by Doris Swift As moms, we carry so much. And sometimes what looks like nurturing or serving is actually just... control in disguise.Jesus offers us the truth that control was never our job. We are the branches. He is the vine. And apart from Him, we can do nothing — which means we were never meant to do it all anyway.Surrender isn't waving a white flag in defeat. It's the moment victory actually begins. Reference: John 15:5 Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for reminding us that you are the vine and we are the branches. Help us to abide in you daily, and to remember it’s not our role to control, and apart from you, we can do nothing. Jesus Calling: Stories of Faith - One Prayer Away From Disaster: Butch Wilmore & Brooke Envick
This week, we’re talking with astronaut Butch Wilmore who has spent 465 days off-planet, giving him a literally out-of-this-world perspective on God’s creation. From fighter jet pilot to Space Shuttle commander, Wilmore’s career was a testament to preparation and discipline. However, his faith was truly tested when a spacecraft Wilmore was manning began losing thrusters—and he was just a prayer away from spiraling toward potential disaster. Next up, we speak with Brooke Envick, a veteran dean in higher education, who recounts how achieving every professional milestone left her feeling empty. She discusses combining lessons from neuroscience with practices like gratitude and prayer, revealing how a sudden, debilitating health crisis forced her into a necessary stillness that ultimately paved the way for profound, lasting internal change. Understanding and knowing that the atmosphere protects the planet and enables us to have the air to breathe that we need, and all of that, and it’s all supplied by our Lord and Savior, our God, the Creator of all things, that is a special thing to view from that vantage point.” - Butch Wilmore “In all types of strenuous situations that we come through in life—to where realizing the Lord’s in control, He is sovereign, working providentially for His Glory and our ultimate good, if we believe. And that is the mainstay of who I am, what I understand, what I know God’s Word to say. And again, even in those moments, it brings intense comfort and intense hope. There’s always, always, eternal hope, regardless of what takes place.” - Butch Wilmore “You’ve got to be completely committed, all in, and that commitment breeds the preparation that is required for whatever the tasks are that you’re undertaking, because the responsibility is great, sometimes greater in certain areas than others.” - Butch Wilmore “I have to come at whatever the task is with a complete mindset of being prepared, disciplined in that preparation, because that’s what it takes—and in those extremist situations, maintaining the focus that’s required to do the task, whatever that might be.” - Butch Wilmore “Anything that we have, everything that we are capable of doing, everything that we are tasked with doi

Heartbeat - Thanking the People Behind the Scenes
Think about how many people quietly make your day better without you even noticing. So many people serve in the background. And most of the time, they do it without much recognition. But gratitude has power. A simple “thank you,” a kind word, or a moment of genuine appreciation can mean more than we realize. As followers of Christ, this matters. Because Jesus constantly noticed the people others overlooked. He saw them, valued them, and loved them. So let’s make sure we’re the type of Christ followers who do the same. Praying Christian Women - 482 Praying Through Psalms 64: The Cosmic Reality of Justice
Don't forget to grab your free scripture journal at PrayingChristianWomen.com/journal today! What do you do when justice feels hopelessly out of reach — when hidden evil goes unpunished and the truth seems buried? Join Jaime on the Praying Christian Women Podcast for a devotional on Psalm 64 — Prayer for Deliverance from Secret Enemies — a psalm that speaks directly to the frustration, anger, and dread we feel when injustice seems to be winning, and enemies are laying secret snares with bitter words. Jaime unpacks the heavy emotional toll of watching people get away with evil, and the lie that we must simply wait for eternity to see things made right. Instead, she explores a powerful cosmic reality: God doesn't exist on our finite earthly timeline. He is the great “I AM,” not “I will be.” Even when hidden traps aren't exposed in our space-time continuum, God is already at work in the spiritual realm. When the enemy aims bitter speech like a weapon, God is ready to shoot His own arrow, turning secret plots upside down and bringing the darkness into the light. Come ready to lay down your honest complaints and confront the anxiety that comes from picturing a dreaded future without God in it. Let this psalm remind you of the profound power of two simple words: “But God.” Because He is a God of justice here and now, you don't have to wait to experience His goodness, and you can confidently take refuge in Him while declaring His mighty works. Confessions of a Christian Alcoholic with Jon Seid... - Has the Enneagram Duped Christians? Christina Wallace Reveals Some Shocking Details
“The Enneagram was demanding that I look to it first, and only through its lens could I look to God second.” That’s just one of the revelations made by author and Oxford theology student Christina Lynn Wallace. For years, Christina loved the Enneagram—a tool that has become popular in counseling and recovery circles. It helped her understand herself. It gave language to her struggles, her relationships, her emotions, and even her marriage. Like many Christians, she encountered it almost entirely through Christian sources and believed it was simply a helpful tool for self-awareness and spiritual growth. Then her mother asked her a question she couldn’t shake: Have you ever really looked into the origins of it? What followed was months of research that eventually led Christina to publicly walk away from the Enneagram altogether. And there are some shocking findings, including one of the founders admitting to having something or someone take over his body while writing aspects of the framework. In this episode, we have one of the most nuanced and difficult conversations we’ve ever had on the podcast. Christina walks through the documented origins of the Enneagram, including the occultic and spiritual practices tied to several of its foundational figures, and explains why she ultimately came to believe the issue runs deeper than personality theory. At the center of the discussion is a bigger question—one that directly connects to addiction, recovery, identity, and discipleship: What happens when something other than Jesus becomes the lens through which we understand ourselves? This conversation is not about panic, shame, or cheap outrage. In fact, both Christina and I openly acknowledge that many people—including us—have found aspects of the Enneagram helpful. But we also wrestle honestly with the danger of allowing any system, framework, program, or personality tool to become an identity rather than simply a descriptor. As well as believing that our relationship to God is determined by a tool or test. We also discuss the tension Christians often face when dealing with things that may have pagan or occultic roots. Can something be redeemed? What does discernment actually require? And how do we avoid both fear-driven legalism and spiritual naïveté? Whether you agree with every conclusion in this episode or not, this conversation will challenge you to think more deeply about worship, identity, sanctification, and the subtle ways idols can disguise themselves as tools for healing. We explore: — Why Christina originally loved the Enneagram and found it genuinely helpful— The research that caused her to completely reevaluate its origins— The occultic practices connected to several foundational figures behind the Enneagram— Why identity and idolatry became the central issue for her— The similarities between addiction, misplaced worship, and personality-based identity systems— Whether Christians can redeem tools or practices with pagan roots— The difference between using a tool and being shaped by it— How Christians should think about discernment without falling into fear or paranoia— Why so many people in recovery and church culture are drawn to the Enneagram— What repentance and “renouncing” the Enneagram practically looked like for Christina— The danger of filtering your relationship with God through any framework besides Christ— How confession, repentance, prayer, and sacramental practices gav

Your Daily Prayer - A Prayer to Remember Who You Are in Christ
There are seasons when the voices around us — and sometimes within us — speak so loudly that we begin to forget who we truly are. Guilt whispers that we have strayed too far from grace. The words of others write a story over us that feels more real than what God says. Failure leaves us feeling untethered, and we begin to walk not as beloved children of God, but as people weighed down by an imposed identity of unworthiness and shame. In those moments, we desperately need someone to speak our name and remind us of what is true. 1 John 3:1 does exactly that. The Apostle John does not say we will one day be called children of God, or that we might be if we try hard enough. He says we are — right now, in this moment, with all our imperfections and all our doubts. And as if anticipating our disbelief, he adds a quiet but stunning clarification: and so we are. This is not a self-proclaimed identity we talk ourselves into on good days. It is a reality declared by the Father Himself, rooted not in anything we have earned but in the great love that compelled Him to bring us near, adopt us, and call us His own. When other aspects of life — our failures, our relationships, our sins — try to define us, we can return to this truth again and again. He knows our name. He has declared who we are. And He will keep calling us by that name until we finally believe it. Today's Bible Verse "See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are." — 1 John 3:1, ESV Ponder Today Our identity as children of God is not self-proclaimed or conditional — it was declared by the Father Himself, rooted entirely in His love and not in anything we have earned or deserved. Guilt, shame, and the words of others will always try to write a false narrative over our lives — but the Sovereign of all has already spoken the definitive word about who we are. John's quiet addition — "and so we are" — is one of the most grounding statements in all of Scripture, a simple but stunning confirmation that our identity in Christ is a present reality, not a future hope. We are not distant individuals straining to reach God — we have been brought near, adopted, and welcomed into the family of God through the love that sent Jesus to lay down His life for us. Even when we forget or struggle to believe who we are, God does not — He knows our name, He calls us His own, and He will keep speaking that truth over us until it takes root in our hearts. Today's Prayer Great God, You are the One who names the stars and spoke the world into being — and You are the One who has already declared who I am. Yet I so easily forget when warring narratives come my way or failure leaves me feeling untethered. Remind me again, gracious Father, that I am Your child — beloved not because I am perfect or have earned Your favor, but simply because of Your love. It was love that sent Your Son, love that led Him to lay down His life, and love that sustains and keeps me today. Help me walk in that love as Your child, living from the truth of who You say I am rather than the lies that try to define me. In Jesus' name, Amen. Enjoy Today's Prayer? Elisha’s servant wakes to find their city surrounded by an enemy army and immediately assumes defeat is inevitable. Your Nightly Prayer: Evening Prayers for Christian... - Grace in the Process
Learning to drive means making mistakes — braking too hard, turning too wide, missing the shoulder check. A good instructor doesn't condemn every imperfection; they offer gentle reminders that help the learner find their way. But sometimes, even the most patient correction can be heard as criticism. One quiet reminder lands like a verdict: you're not good enough. Try harder. Do better. If we secretly believe that God's love works the same way — that His approval rises and falls with our performance — then we will spend our entire lives flinching, never quite sure where we stand. Tonight's episode offers a different foundation entirely. We are saved not by effort, not by performance, not by any accumulation of good days outweighing bad ones, but by grace — the unearned, unwarranted, completely free gift of divine love. There is nothing we can do to make God love us more. And there is nothing we can do to make Him love us less. That truth is not just good news. It is the ground everything else is built on. Tonight's Scripture "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith." — Ephesians 2:8 Ponder This Tonight Grace is not earned — it is received. The moment we try to deserve it, we have misunderstood it entirely. God's love is not a reward for good performance; it is a gift extended to us before we had anything to offer. Living from grace transforms everything around us. When we truly rest in the knowledge that nothing can discredit God's love, temptations lose their grip, forgiveness flows more freely, and peace becomes less something we chase and more something we inhabit. Faith means daring to believe grace exists even where we are most tempted to doubt it. In our failures, our worst moments, our most shameful corners — grace is already there. Faith is simply the choice to believe that and act accordingly. Reflection & Encouragement Before you close your eyes tonight, let your soul do what your body is about to do — rest. Not the rest of someone who earned a good day, but the rest of someone who is held by a love that does not fluctuate with their performance. Ask yourself where you experienced God's grace today, where you extended it to someone else, and where you may have missed it altogether. Then let the answers simply be what they are, covered by the same grace that has been covering you all along. You are saved by grace. Let that be enough tonight. Want More? If tonight's prayer encouraged your heart, there's more waiting for you. Untangling Prayer with Rachel Wojo - Fighting Bitterness in Motherhood
Are you living in the gap between the motherhood you pictured and the motherhood you actually have? If Mother's Day stirred up grief you didn't know was still there — or if something has been quietly hardening around the edges of your heart — this episode is for you. In this post–Mother's Day episode, Rachel sits with the question almost no one says out loud: How do I pray when bitterness keeps creeping into my motherhood? Anchored in the story of Naomi in Ruth chapter 1 — the woman who came home and told her whole town to call her by a different name, Mara, because the Almighty had made her life bitter — this episode gives moms permission to name what they're actually feeling and reminds them that the bitter chapter is not the last chapter. Rachel shares the season in her own life when bitterness was closer to her than it had ever been: losing her mom at 62 when she was 27, and grieving the grandmother her mom would have been to her kids. She talks about how reading the Psalms — not one specific psalm, just the whole book of them, day after day — became her lifeline through a season she didn't know how to pray through. You'll discover: The difference between grief and bitterness, and why naming it matters What Naomi's honest "call me Mara" prayer teaches us about coming to God with the actual word for what we're feeling Why the Psalms hold both honesty and faith on the same page, and how that becomes a lifeline How God works in the gap between the motherhood we pictured and the motherhood we have If you're in a bitter chapter today, this episode is a gentle reminder that God is doing something underneath the surface — even when you can't see it. The bitter chapter is not the last chapter. The Crosswalk Devotional: A Daily Devotional Chris... - When God Asks Powerful Probing Questions
Genesis 16:8 reveals how God uses powerful questions to expose the hidden fears, wounds, and thought patterns shaping our lives. In this devotional, Jennifer Slattery reflects on God’s interaction with Hagar and shows how the Lord still asks believers today: “Where have you come from, and where are you going?” These questions are not rooted in condemnation, but in God’s loving desire to guide His children toward healing, wisdom, and peace. Highlights God’s questions often uncover hidden fears, wounds, and insecurities. Genesis 16 shows God intentionally pursuing Hagar in her place of overwhelm. Emotional reactions are often connected to unresolved pain from the past. God invites believers to examine where they’ve come from and where they’re headed. Obedience to God requires trusting His heart, even when the path feels difficult. God’s guidance is rooted in love, provision, and long-term healing. Reflecting honestly with God can lead to greater peace, wisdom, and emotional health. Have an idea for our newsletter? We want to hear from you! Take our survey below: Take Our Survey! (Genesis 16:8, NIV) God’s questions have a way of piercing to the deepest places in our souls—where lies and insecurities often reside undetected. When anxious and overwhelmed, I have a difficult time demonstrating the love and grace of Christ. Add enough challenges and frustrations to my day, and I can become irritable with the people I most love. But I can rarely, if ever, will myself to respond better. Relying on self-control might help momentarily, but eventually, the undealt with gunk in my soul bubbles out and onto those I hold dear. That was how I behaved the night my husband and I checked into our VRBO to escape Nebraska’s bitterly cold winter. We make this journey each January, beginning with a long road trip during which we see as many grandkids as possible. This is always a lovely… and exhausting endeavor that involves hours in our vehicle, standstill traffic, and clamoring in and out of numerous hotels (Our mini-golden doodle was not a fan and alerted us to this by barking all night at other guests roaming the halls. Words of Life: Weekly Christian Podcast with Testi... - Author, Preston Fidler- 1,000 Cups of Tea
What if sharing the gospel wasn’t about having all the right words, but about building real relationships? In this episode of Words of Life, we’re joined by author and missionary Preston Fidler, whose book 1000 Cups of Tea has helped inspire this series on community engagement and neighboring well. Drawing from decades of cross-cultural ministry experience, Preston shares how meaningful relationships, not methods, are at the heart of effective, Christ-centered outreach. Preston’s journey began with a simple but profound realization: the gospel is best shared through conversation, not scripts. From a memorable moment struggling to communicate in a taxi overseas to years of ministry in Asia and Central Asia, he discovered that true connection happens when we listen, engage, and meet people where they are. This episode also challenges a common misconception about evangelism. Sharing your faith isn’t just for pastors or missionaries, it’s for every believer. You don’t need to travel across the world to live on mission. It starts right where you are, with your neighbors, your community, and the people you encounter every day. https://salvationarmysoundcast.org/wordsoflife Learn more about Preston's ministry here https://www.language180.com/books Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

Rebuilding Us: Marriage Podcast - Every Marital Argument Boils Down to these 5 Questions
Ever wonder why you keep having the same fights about money, the kids, or even just feeling ignored? My guest, marriage therapist and Christian wives coach Beatriz Vargas says there are five core questions behind every argument in marriage. Borrowing from renowned attachment-theory expert Sue Johnson's model, these questions can transform even the most hopeless-feeling, disconnected relationships. Beatriz explains how knowing these questions beforehand is a game-changer, and she also shares her powerful personal story of walking through marital struggle, separation, and ultimately, restoration. Beatriz and I break down how every marital conflict, big or small, boils down to one of five foundational questions every spouse is asking—often without even realizing it. We’re talking: Why feeling valued, needed, and cherished is non-negotiable for a healthy marriage How to recognize and break free from the “roommate syndrome” so many couples fall into The role of prayer and honest self-reflection when things seem hopeless How over-spiritualizing can sometimes get us stuck—and what healthy vulnerability looks like instead Practical ways to talk through arguments and change the narrative in your relationship Whether you’re the wife who feels like she’s carrying it all, or the spouse worried that you’re growing further apart, this conversation is for you. Beatriz Vargas even shares exactly where you can download the five core questions to bring these breakthrough conversations to your own marriage. Compared to Who? Body Image for Christian Women - Is Your Food Plan a Religion? How Optavia & Weigh Down Workshop Promote the Religion of Worshipping Good Bodies
Are you curious about how diet programs sneak religious language into their sales pitch? Ever wondered why joining a weight loss plan at church can feel surprisingly similar to joining a church itself? On today’s episode, Heather Creekmore continues her powerful series, "The Gospel of Good Bodies," and exposes the insidious ways that popular diet programs like Optavia and the old Weigh Down Workshop blur the line between faith and food. Heather Creekmore digs deep into: How diet culture borrows the architecture of salvation: Learn how programs diagnose a “fallen state,” promise transformation, offer coaching “saviors,” and tout communities that eerily resemble church groups. Shocking religious-sounding language from Optavia: Hear actual letters written to "brothers and sisters in Christ," urging members to “kick sugar in the face” as if it’s a spiritual battle; one equal to a believer's battle with pride! The tragic path of Weigh Down Workshop: How Gwen Shamblin’s transformative biblical dieting program morphed into a bona fide cult—with spiritual harm to match. Dangers of mixing body goals with spiritual worth: Why these messages distract from the true gospel and what Scripture actually says about food and the body. A word of hope if you feel trapped by religious diet culture: Heather Creekmore encourages you—there’s a better, grace-filled way to see your body through Jesus. If you’ve ever joined a diet program because “a Christian was leading it,” or if you just want to protect your faith from diet hype, you can’t miss this episode! Love this episode? The Built Different Podcast with Dr. Zach Clinton - Charles Metcalf: God Chose You - Untouchable Confidence for the Unstoppable Christian, Ep. 301
What if the confidence you’ve been chasing… actually starts with one simple truth? God chose you. In this powerful conversation, Dr. Zach Clinton sits down with Pastor Charles Metcalf of Transformation Church to unpack the message behind his most recent book, God Chose Me: Untouchable Confidence for the Unstoppable Christian. In a world filled with fear, comparison, and constant pressure to measure up, many people are quietly battling thoughts of “I’m not enough, I’m behind, or what if I’m found out?” But Charles challenges that narrative at its core, reminding us that true confidence isn’t built on performance or approval, but on identity. Together, Zach & Charles explore how fear is shaping our culture in subtle but powerful ways, from procrastination and perfectionism to people-pleasing and playing small, and how many believers are unknowingly living from insecurity masked as humility. Charles breaks down what it really means to say, “God chose me,” and how that truth has the power to dismantle rejection, silence self-doubt, and anchor you in something unshakable. They also dive into the practical side of confidence and how it’s not something you wait to feel, but something you build through action, obedience, and renewed thinking. If you’ve ever struggled with comparison, insecurity, or the fear of not measuring up, this episode will help you reset your identity and step into a more grounded, bold, and resilient faith.Links: Visit Charles’s Website: https://charlesmetcalf.com/ Pick Up Your Copy of God Chose Me: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0593603184?tag= Find Out More About Transformation Church: https://transformchurch.us/ Wanting to Grow Your Confidence? Your Nightly Prayer: Evening Prayers for Christian... - Strength for the Long Stretch
As a child, May meant everything. The countdown to summer, the anticipation of freedom, the sense that something wonderful was just around the corner. But somewhere between childhood and adulthood, long stretches of time lose their shimmer. We begin a new season with hope and a fresh outlook, and then fatigue quietly sets in — not dramatically, but steadily — until we find ourselves wondering if we have what it takes to make it to the end. Tonight's episode meets us in that honest place of middle-of-the-season weariness and points us to a God who never experiences what we are feeling. He does not faint. He does not grow weary. His understanding is unsearchable and His strength has no limit — and because that is true, He can give power to those who are faint and increase the strength of those who have none left to offer. Whatever long stretch lies ahead of you, you are not drawing from your own supply tonight. You are drawing from His. And His has no bottom. Interested in creating something new with us!? Take Our Newsletter Survey! Tonight's Scripture "He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength." — Isaiah 40:29, ESV Ponder This Tonight God does not grow tired — and His strength is your source. Unlike every human reservoir that eventually runs dry, His supply is unlimited and everlasting. You are drawing from a well that cannot be emptied. Weariness is not a disqualifier from God's calling. He does not wait until you feel strong to use you or sustain you. He meets you in the faint and the depleted and gives power precisely there — not after you recover, but in the middle of the struggle. Rest is part of the provision, not a pause from it. Tonight's sleep is not wasted time — it is one of the ways God renews what has been spent. Trusting Him with the long stretch includes trusting Him with this night. Reflection & Encouragement If you are ending this day running on empty — if the long stretch ahead of you feels like more than you have strength to cover — you are exactly where Isaiah 40 was written for. You do not have to find the strength within yourself tonight. You only have to lift your hands to the One who has already promised to supply it. Give Him this season. Give Him this weariness. Let your rest tonight be an act of trust, and wake up tomorrow expecting Him to be faithful. He always is. Want More? If tonight's prayer encouraged your heart, there's more waiting for you. Crosswalk Talk: Celebrity Christian Interviews - What Joseph's Story Taught a Mother and Daughter About God's Unchanging Purpose
Anne Graham Lotz and her daughter Rachel-Ruth Lotz Wright, co-authors of God Won't Leave You There, came to Joseph's story the hard way. Anne survived breast cancer, lost her husband of 49 years after finding him unresponsive in their pool, and has walked through decades of suffering with a faith anchored in God's promises. Rachel-Ruth survived two rare SCAD heart attacks that should have killed her, spent three years in and out of the ER, and carried a nine-out-of-ten PTSD diagnosis while clinging to the Psalms in the middle of the night. Together they wrote this book because they had no choice but to. God's promises, the story of Joseph, and what it looks like to trust God when the suffering will not stop: Anne and Rachel-Ruth unpack how Joseph's journey from the pit to Potiphar's house to prison to the palace was never accidental, how God was teaching him at every stage even when it looked like abandonment, and why every hard thing in their own lives carried the same fingerprints. They also share what it was like to write this book together across two very different personalities, why Anne's father Billy Graham kept telling her for years that Joseph was the book she needed to write, and why they both believe this message is for such a time as this. Highlights How two rare SCAD heart attacks that should have killed Rachel-Ruth became the spark for this book Why Ann's father Billy Graham repeatedly told her Joseph was the book she needed to write, and why she waited The "Jesus in the Shadows" feature at the end of each chapter, where mother and daughter trace Christ in Joseph's story How Joseph chose to trust God and learn at every stage of suffering rather than wallowing in his pain What Anne learned about blessing during chemotherapy treatments that became like mission trips with her daughters How Rachel-Ruth clung to a specific promise God gave her after the heart attacks, and why it carried her through three years of pain Why Anne believes the key to surviving suffering is shifting your focus off your pain and onto the blessings along the way Resources / Links / CTA Anne Graham Lotz website: https://www.annegrahamlotz.org Instagram Anne Graham Lotz: https://www.instagram.com/annegrahamlotz Instagram Rachel-Ruth Wright: https://www.instagram.com/rachelruthlotzwright Book: God Won't Leave You There Follow, share, and explore more of Crosswalk Talk Follow, share, and subscribe for more faith-driven conversations on Lifeaudio Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

Faith Over Fear - Break Free from Shame: Carol McCracken’s Story of Freedom and Restoration
What happens when a respected Bible teacher’s hidden struggle finally comes to light? In this special feed drop episode from Love Life Sober, Carol McCracken shares the deeply personal story behind a season she hid for years: increasing dependence on alcohol while navigating parenting stress, marital strain, shame, and emotional exhaustion. From the outside, Carol appeared to have everything together. Inside, she was unraveling. After an arrest forced her secret into the open, Carol found herself confronting painful truths about control, identity, fear, and the parts of her heart she had never fully surrendered to God. What followed became a story of grace, healing, freedom from alcohol, and an unexpected journey of restoration. Whether or not alcohol has been part of your story, this conversation speaks to anyone who has: hidden struggles behind a polished image felt trapped by shame feared being “found out” tried to manage pain through unhealthy coping mechanisms wondered if God could still redeem what feels broken In this episode, Carol and Christy discuss: the emotional roots beneath destructive coping patterns the shame many Christians carry in silence surrendering control to God how healing often begins with honesty why freedom rarely happens overnight the difference between knowing truth in your head and believing it in your heart God’s ability to restore what once seemed beyond repair Connect with Christy Osborne: On the Love Life Sober Podcast On her website On Instagram Connect with Carol McCracken: On her website On Facebook On Instagram Scripture Referenced Romans 8:38–39 Luke 10:38–42 Lamentations 3:22–23 If This Episode Encouraged You Share this episode with a friend, leave a review, and subscribe to Faith Over Fear for more conversations that help you move from fear and striving toward freedom and deeper trust in Christ. The Love Offering - You Don't Have to Hold It All Together: A Conversation with Nichole J. Suvar
Have you ever felt like everything depends on you? Like if you stop striving, planning, fixing, organizing, or carrying it all… everything might fall apart? If so, this week’s episode of The Love Offering Podcast is especially for you. I had the joy of sitting down with my friend Nichole J. Suvar to talk about her beautiful book, I Don’t Have to Hold It All Together: Cultivating the Peace of Eden When Feeling Overwhelmed. And honestly? This conversation ministered deeply to my own heart. Nichole vulnerably shares her personal journey with anxiety, perfectionism, and the exhausting pressure to keep everything together. Together, we talked about: • Why so many women feel overwhelmed and anxious today• The illusion of control and the burden of perfectionism• How God designed us for rest, peace, boundaries, and community• What it looks like to release outcomes to God• Why true peace isn’t something we create—it’s something we receive One of my favorite reminders from our conversation was this: “You don’t have to hold it all together. God is already holding you.” What a freeing truth. If you’ve been carrying too much, striving too hard, or feeling weary in this season, I pray this episode feels like a deep exhale for your soul. Friend, may you remember today: God never asked you to carry what only He was meant to hold. With love,Rachael P.S. If this episode encouraged you, would you consider forwarding it to a friend who may need this reminder too? Sometimes the greatest gift we can offer someone is simply letting them know they’re not alone. When I see in Scripture how God dealt with them, I know He’s the same yesterday, today, and forever, and what He did is what He still does. Their stories give me hope in my now and in my future.” - Nicole C. Mullen “[The story of Abigail] is one of those stories that’s encouraged me throughout the years to make wise decisions. Sometimes I, too, will have to run interference for the safety of my home.” - Nicole C. Mullen “Abigail’s story teaches us spiritual discernment in the realm of if there is a situation where we are faced with the decision between right and wrong, good and evil, I believe we are called to act on behalf of the good.” - Nicole C. Mullen “I was abused physically for a few years, and I had to make a decision as to, Do I continue to stay and remain silent and allow fear to make me voiceless? Or do I borrow the courage of other sheroes that have come before me?” - Nicole C. Mullen “I’m very passionate about encouraging other women and letting them know they have a voice, and that Scripture allows them to beautifully turn up the volume.” - Nicole C. Mullen “I see the Abigail spirit all the time in women who may never gain notoriety. Their names may never become famous. They may never wear a cape or have an S on their chest. But on the inside, they are sheroes, because they have courageously stood against evil, and so I applaud them.” - Nicole C. Mullen “We’re not called to be quiet when it comes to righteousness and justice and things that are promoted as biblical values. Thinking Christian: Clear Theology for a Confusing... - The Numbing Trap: From Ozempic to "Biohacking" our Way Out of Reality
In a world that demands instant results, we’ve found a thousand new ways to numb the pain of existence. Join Dr. James Spencer and Dr. Ben Mathew for the final installment of our series as they tackle the normalization of "quick-fix" drugs—from anabolic steroids and TRT in the fitness world to the rise of GLP-1s like Ozempic. We explore the dangerous trade-offs of modern biohacking and why the Christian life calls us to lean into the "friction" of reality rather than anesthetizing ourselves against it. If you've ever felt the pressure to "optimize" your body at the expense of your soul, this conversation is for you. In this episode, we discuss: The Normalization of Performance Enhancers: Why younger generations are turning to steroids and TRT for social media clout. The "Numbing" Culture: How we use substances to avoid the "existential sniffles" and the discomfort of growth. The GLP-1 Wave: Examining the psychological and spiritual implications of the newest drug trends. Sanctification vs. Optimization: Why the Christian walk requires "grit" and "friction" that a pill or injection can’t provide. Working Toward Your Own Dismissal: A challenge to leaders and counselors to build structures that help people find freedom, not just temporary relief. Don’t miss this deep dive into how we can bear faithful witness in a culture that wants to edit out every struggle. Get early access and a bonus with a Patreon membership. How to Study the Bible - Bible Study Made Simple - Faith Grows in the Uncertainty You're Trying to Avoid | Mark 13
If you've ever wanted God to just tell you his plan— give you the timeline, the clarity, the step-by-step guide — then Mark chapter 13 is going to both challenge you and, I think, ultimately free you. This is one of the most debated, over-interpreted chapters in all of the Gospels. Jesus launches into this long teaching about the destruction of the temple, persecution, false messiahs, and signs in the sky. It has sent a lot of people down a very deep rabbit hole of end-times speculation. And I want us to resist that today, because I think when we do, we find something so much more useful for our actual lives. Jesus wraps this entire chapter together with a story. A man goes on a long trip, leaves his servants with instructions, and tells the gatekeeper to keep watch — because no one knows when the master is coming home. That's it. The actual takeaway in this passage is not certainty about exactly what's going to happen. It's not full clarity about what the end times mean, what all these things are going to mean. Jesus is asking us to be attentive. He's telling us what He actually needs from us: keep watch. Stay in your instructions. Don't fall asleep. We also talk about what it would have felt like for the disciples to hear Jesus say the temple was going to be destroyed — a building so massive that a single stone could weigh 600 tons, so blinding white and gold that it looked like a snowstorm in the distance. It would have been like someone walking through New York City in July of 2001 and saying, "Those towers are coming down in three months." Unthinkable. And yet it happened — in AD 70, exactly as Jesus said. And here's what I find genuinely remarkable: the persecution Jesus warned His disciples about? It came true for every single one of them. He said, when you are arrested — not if. And yet not one of them walked away. That kind of faithfulness under that kind of pressure? It is one of the most compelling arguments for the reality of the resurrection that I know. So what does this mean for you today? Not when is Jesus coming back — but where is He asking you to keep watch right now? What instructions has He already given you that you haven't fully acted on yet? That's the question this chapter is really asking. Want More?
