    Romans 5:12-21... Super Abounding!

Send Tim a noteHave you ever been in a situation where things spiraled out of control? It’s a pretty helpless feeling when events are already in motion that you can’t stop.  You’re beyond the point of no return. Our passage has an element of that at the beginning but then introduces us to The One who totally reversed the narrative and brought legitimate hope!  This isn't merely a situation of barely having enough grace to restore balance, this is abundant, overwhelming grace. Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

    Genesis 17

Send Tim a noteWho are you?  What are you doing here?  More importantly, who does God say you are?  And finally, what’s the purpose He’s given you? Each of those questions are reflected in the story of Abraham and Sarah. Their experience with promises, faith, doubt, and questions are all highly relatable to me.  How about you?Leaning into God for our identity can be the most transformative thing that happens to us in our lives. Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

    Matthew 6:16-18

Send Tim a noteIs there something in your life where you know you just need to shove out every single distraction and bring that to Jesus? What are you pleading with God about? We’re talking about fasting today in Matthew 6:16-18, the model that God has given us to do exactly that. We take time to understand this passage but also to pull in from other examples as well as some (hopefully) helpful tidbits about approach and timing. Ultimately, we are truly blessed that God invites us into His presence in order to listen to us.Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

    Psalm 17

Send Tim a noteWhen you think about God taking a deep dive into your heart and mind and looking around, what sort of response do you have?  I think it’s perfectly normal for us to hope that those one or two areas remain unseen and unsearched and yet the truth is, God already knows.  His intent, though, isn’t to look for flaws in order to condemn us. His desire is to heal us.  I believe one of the best things that happens to us when we follow Jesus is that we can have a truly clear conscience, not because we’re perfect but because we can be totally open. We’ll be looking at Psalm 17, a prayer of David that invites God to look into his heart and to bring about justice. Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

Joshua 8:30-35... All About Renewal & Relationship

Send Tim a noteHave you ever told your own faith story to yourself?  I know that sounds a little odd but I’m getting at the idea of actively remembering.  Joshua leads the people in doing what God had asked of them once they entered the land.  Their covenant with God was to be central to their lives and everything they did. So how about us?  How are we remembering and renewing? Also, I get to tell you the briefest but best story about my friend, Bill.Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

    Romans 5:6-11: Love Beyond Logic

Send Tim a noteHow do you respond to people who continue to treat you poorly?  Our society has grabbed the term “toxic” to describe those people who are that constant problem in our lives. More often than not, the recommendation is to remove that person from your life if you can. Sometimes that is wisdom. Some people have shown their stripes and it would be foolish to believe they would behave in any other way. I do wonder, though, if we miss out on some of life’s wonders by bailing out prematurely. That’s a topic for another day and maybe another podcast but I was thinking about our relationship with God.  I’m so glad that He didn’t bail on us… that He didn’t cut me out of His life. Romans 5:6-11 describes love that goes beyond logic and the reality of what that means for us in our lives.Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

    Genesis 16

Send Tim a noteThis is the part of the story where our covenant couple (Abram & Sarai) go off-script and the results are not at all what they thought they would be. It's not all bad, though, because the LORD proves himself to be faithful even when his people behave... like people. If you're someone who feels cast aside, overlooked, or just plain used while someone else takes center stage, this is especially for you.  Today we get to meet "The God who sees".Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

    Matthew 6:5-15

Send Tim a noteWhat have you been talking to God about lately?  What’s He been telling you?  Prayer really is an act of faith isn’t it?  We believe in this ability to communicate with our Creator and yet so many of us have big questions and in some cases, big opinions about it. We ask things like…  “Does it work?” “Is there a right way?” “Why don’t I seem to get an immediate response?” “‘Pray without ceasing’ sounds like a chore. Am I awful for thinking that?”We’re reading the part where Jesus teaches his disciples how to pray today.  There is so much depth here that this little 15 minute podcast isn’t adequate. Psalm 16

Send Tim a noteHow do you evaluate whether your life is going well or not?  What do you tend to focus on? Tough moments reveal that people, institutions, our own health, and life in general will all let us down but we I believe we can have contentment in God.  That contentment can even become joy, not contrived or forced but genuine, honest delight.David writes Psalm 16 from a good time in his life but we know he faced plenty of adversity.  Spending time with God really can be something that shifts our focus and mood, even changing the shape of our day.Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

    Joshua 8:1-29

Send Tim a noteWhat do you do after a failure that leaves you feeling discouraged or even disillusioned?  How do you move forward, back into mission and maybe more importantly, back into health?  I think we all want reassurance that we’ll be okay; that we’re not abandoned. This is the part of the story that comes after defeat and a brutal reckoning because of sin.  It's all picking up after the hard thing, trying things a different way, and following God's instructions for us.  Don't be afraid, don't be discouraged!Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

Send Tim a noteDo you ever look at someone else’s spiritual life and think, “why isn’t mine like theirs?” If that’s you, I want you to hang in there with me until the end - I have some words of encouragement specifically for you.Genesis 15 holds a story of promises, patience, and faith.  We see how Abram not only believes God but brings his questions and doubts to the LORD as well.  We don’t typically get to set the timeline when it comes to God’s plans for us and Abram is no exception.Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

    Matthew 6:1-4

Send Tim a noteWhat motivates you to do the right thing?  And does it matter?  The truth is we all can be prompted into action by things like rewards, the fear of punishment or negative consequences for bad behavior or even bribes. The Jesus way challenges all of those things and calls us to develop the habit of simply living rightly.Jesus teaches about giving to the needy in Matthew 6:1-4, instructing us to think about so much more than the admiration and applause of people.Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

    Psalm 15

Send Tim a noteIf I gave you 5 minutes to put pen to paper, how would you describe someone who is holy?  Now, if you just jumped straight to “someone saved by Jesus” - I want you to flesh that out a little more: what are their traits?  How do they conduct themselves? Can we discern if someone is living a holy life through observation? While I’m sure he took more than 5 minutes, David does that very thing in Psalm 15, describing someone who belongs on Mt. Zion, God's holy mountain.  Join me as we look at how our relationships with others reveals a changed life. Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

    Joshua 7:10-26

Send Tim a noteWhy is it that the hidden things in our lives cause the most trouble?  One of the big lies we tell ourselves is that if no one else knows, it isn’t causing harm to us. Deep down we all know that isn’t true but it feels easier at the time to try and bury the problem rather than hauling it out into the light. The story of Achan is not an easy read but it can serve as a good reminder that while we do live in the light of Jesus’ victory over sin, we can’t just ignore it.  Grace means forgiveness and faithfulness!Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

Send Tim a noteWhat if I told you that your faith doesn’t need to be perfect but it does need to be honest?  What if I also told you that this is one of those things that wasn’t meant for your head so it needs to travel down to your heart?  What if we truly came to accept it? We explore these things as well as what it means to be children of Abraham in a very real sense.Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

Today we’re reading some teaching from Jesus that isn’t hard to grasp for our minds but it is for our hearts. Loving people in general can be enough of a challenge but Jesus calls us to much more than that. Send Tim a noteHear me out… following Jesus is worth more than any amount of wealth or ease life can offer. Also hear me out… Most of us don’t know where our conviction truly lies until we’re faced with a meaningful, substantial choice. That’s not to say we don’t mean it when we say it, it is to say that core beliefs are refined in the context of real life much more than in a mental exercise. This episode deals with the significance and power of making good choices even when they feel like they’re not a huge deal at the moment. Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

Joshua chapter 6 gives us the battle of Jericho and our task is to understand it well in order that we can also grow and develop as followers of Jesus, especially as it's one of those stories that is familiar to many of us.I'll also offer 3 helpful questions to ask when you're doing your own study in our reflection time. Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

    Romans 3:27-31

Send Tim a note"How are you doing today?"  We ask each other that kind of question often, presumably because we care about each other and we hope that the people in our lives will feel safe enough with us to just be themselves. Here’s the thing, though, Jesus will meet us in whatever state or emotion we find ourselves and meet us exactly how we need.  He certainly met the Jews in their situation but he also met everyone else regardless of what was happening in their lives up to that point. I will let you know that I spent longer than normal mulling this text over… kind of holding it… thinking and praying about how God really does call each of us into deeper waters than we might expect, and that’s a good thing. Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

The first is one of the most influential and important promises made in the O.T. and the second could be the basis of some sort of soap opera.  All in a day’s reading :)  My prayer is that our time today will help us appreciate God’s faithfulness even when we sometimes behave badly.  Apparently, God has factored in our crazy choices and still chooses to work with us. Send Tim a noteIt's so good for us to sit and listen to the Good Teacher, Jesus.  In my own quiet time, I was struck by the importance of our substance and how that leads us into our purpose.  Time with the Lord is time well spent. Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

    Psalm 10

Send Tim a noteIf you’ve ever felt like God was distant… or even like He wasn’t paying attention.  If you’ve ever been frustrated that people doing shady things don’t get what they deserve... this psalm probably resonates with you.  Life doesn’t always play out in ways that we deem to be fair or equitable and yet we can still see the justice and goodness of God. Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

  41. 42

    Joshua 4:10-24

Send Tim a noteJoshua and the people of Israel had really clear directions about what to do as they entered the land of Canaan.  This part of the account is striking in the way it shows the nation actually doing what God asks of them.  This passage invites us to think about our own lives and how we listen (or don't) to God's leading.  How do we know if we're doing something that's just our big idea or if it's actually in step with God's plan for us?Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

  42. 41

    Romans 2:25-29

Send Tim a noteHow much weight do you put into other people's opinion of yourself?  While this passage talks about everyone's "favorite" subject, circumcision, the centerpiece of this is all about what happens in our hearts and who we want to affirm and applaud us.  Warning! Today requires honesty!Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

  43. 40

    Genesis 9

Send Tim a noteTwo important moments happen in Noah's life in chapter 9.  One is absolutely comforting and beautiful, the other is one of those train-wrecks that's hard to watch.  Important question:  How do we respond when we see someone in a vulnerable (or compromising) situation?Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

  44. 39

    Matthew 5:1-12

Send Tim a noteWhat is it that makes you happy? A legitimate way to understand "blessed" in this passage is "happy" - to be content and to know the goodness of God. The Jesus way isn't always intuitive to us but it is always good and produces richness in us. Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

  45. 38

    Psalm 9

Send Tim a noteIn a world where injustice seems to be the norm, can we find genuine peace that withstands all of that?  David's world was as chaotic as anyone's and yet there was still a trust that God understood all of that. Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

  46. 37

    Joshua 4:1-9

Send Tim a noteOne of the best things we can do when we realize that God has done something important in our lives is to mark that moment with something to help us remember it in the future. What do you keep with you, or maybe have in your home, that prompts conversation about God's goodness in your life?  The people of Israel were instructed to build a simple but powerful reminder that God made a way for them to enter the new land. Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

  47. 36

    Romans 2:17-24

Send Tim a noteReflection isn't a passive exercise and in this case, it's pretty intense but desperately needed. Paul's challenge to the early Jewish followers of Jesus was pointed.  While our specific struggles are different today, the message still rings true, we're called to live with integrity.  Leave the hypocritical judgment behind and move back towards Christ. Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

  48. 35

    Genesis 8

Send Tim a noteCan we talk about the gift of slowing down for a moment?  I had kind of expected that today’s meditation would feel just like a continuation of last Wednesday (Genesis 7). Funny how we do that to ourselves. And then I got to slow down and sit in it and there was so much richness for me.  You're invited to do the same. 49. 34

    Matthew 4:12-25

Send Tim a noteI might be living a good life but is Jesus calling me to something else? Something more?  I've been thinking lately that if the accounts of Jesus are true (and I believe they are) then that changes my life. My big move?  Say yes to him.Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel

  50. 33

    Psalm 8

Send Tim a noteSometimes the best thing we can do is let ourselves get caught up in the greatness and majesty of God. We all have things to work out and work on but He's the one that can change us through the power of His presence. Support the showFor a reading plan and to learn more about this devotional.  Check out the website!https://meetmeintheword.com/Want to support this ministry but don't want to do the monthly subscription?  Click the link below.https://buymeacoffee.com/timothysamuel
