Morning Music Moment

Weekday morning prayers to practice beginning each day with gratitude.  Brief (2-3 minutes) and normally inspired by a song verse.  Some say that God rather more sung (than spoke) the universe into existence.. We (still) hear echoes of that tune, which we have never heard (ref   C.S. Lewis,  The Weight of Glory).I once heard that no good thing is lost in heaven, which maybe offers some hope that we will receive back the music and songs that were loved,  and hear them again in heaven.   Though like us, corrected and perfected.

I shall do good, I shall do His work; I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place, while not intending it, if I do but keep His commandments and serve Him in my calling. Therefore I will trust Him. Whatever, wherever I am, I can never be thrown away. If I am in sickness, my sickness may serve Him; In perplexity, my perplexity may serve Him; If I am in sorrow, my sorrow may serve Him. My sickness, or perplexity, or sorrow may be necessary causes of some great end, which is quite beyond us. He does nothing in vain; He may prolong my life, He may shorten it; He knows what He is about. He may take away my friends, He may throw me among strangers, He may make me feel desolate, make my spirits sink, hide the future from me— still He knows what He is about.… Let me be Thy blind instrument. Killing Me Softly With His SongRoberta Flackhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEbi_YjpA-Y ==========================Killing My Old ManPetrahttps://youtu.be/Hw50qFzVkBc ========================== https://christianfaithguide.com/psalms-to-pray/ Psalm 30:1-5“I will exalt you, Lord, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me. Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me. You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit.”This Psalm is an excellent example of a prayer of thanksgiving to the Father. The Psalmist thanks God for hearing his cries and restoring him. Likewise, this prayer is suggested as an excellent way for us to thank God for holding us fast through trying periods of our lives.Psalm 40:1-6“I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.”If you’re going through a difficult time, this Psalm reminds you that if you put your trust in the Lord, he will carry you through. The writer recounts how God brought him through a trying period and gave him a new song.Psalm 103:1-22“Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”According to these verses, the Psalmist encourages his soul to bless the Lord and not forget all he has done. This Psalm is suggested to be a great thanksgiving and adoration prayer.Psalm 139“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.”This Psalm is implied to be one of the best examples of prayer in the book of Psalms. The Psalmist explores the vastness of God’s power and knowledge over our lives. It’s suggested as a great prayer in times of doubt or when you need to remind yourself of God’s power.Psalm 51:3-6“For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.”This Psalm is suggested as a prayer for forgiveness. The verses discuss God’s right to judge us for our sins and transgressions. It’s a prayer for him to cleanse us of our sins and lead us in righteousness.Psalm 30:3-5“You, Lord, brought me up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit. Sing the praises of the Lord, you his faithful people; praise his holy name. For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime;weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.”Another thanksgiving prayer is found within these verses. The Psalmist urges us to trust the Lord since our weeping may endure for the night, but joy always comes in the morning. If you’re grateful for how God has fought for you, this Psalm would be a great addition to your prayer.Psalm 119:33-40“Teach me, Lord, the way of your decrees, that I may follow it to the end. Jesus’ mother is the first to speak, as John tells the story: “They have no wine.” On the surface level, she is indeed commenting on a social disaster, running out of wine at a party, and she is asking Jesus to do something to make things better. But let’s go deeper. Wine, in the Scriptures, is a symbol of the exuberance and intoxication of the divine life. When God is in us, we are lifted up, rendered joyful, transfigured. Therefore, when Mary says, “They have no wine,” she is speaking of all of Israel and indeed all of the human race. They have run out of the exuberance and joyfulness that comes from union with God.And this is precisely why Jesus calls her “woman.” We can be easily misled into thinking that he was being curt or disrespectful. But he was addressing her with the title of Eve, the mother of all the living. Mary is the representative here of suffering humanity, complaining to God that the joy of life has run out. ==========================The PAST is in God’s mercy   To go there only causes despairThe FUTURE is in God’s providence   To go there causes you to play godThe PRESENT is God’s GIFT    To be lived in LOVE

2024-08-27 Love Child / Child Of Love

Love ChildDiana Ross & The Supremeshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNCkah42w6QChild of LoveWe The Kingdomhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLUM48jPBBw==================================https://www.cslewis.com/four-types-of-love/Affection (storge)Affection covers an array of loves. Like animals, the care of mother to babe is a picture of affection. It relies on the expected and the familiar. Lewis describes it as humble. “Affection almost slinks or seeps through our lives,” he says. “It lives with humble, un-dress, private things; soft slippers, old clothes, old jokes, the thump of a sleepy dog’s tail on the kitchen floor, the sound of a sewing-machine…” Affection can sit alongside other loves and often does. For example, when a man and woman fall in love it is often because of certain affections – a particular location, experience, personality, interest – that begin to wrap around the couple so to make love an expected and familiar part of their shared lives. It’s the familiarity of,  “the people with whom you are thrown together in the family, the college, the mess, the ship, the religious house,” says Lewis. The affection for the people always around us, in the normal day-to-day of life, is the majority of the love we experience, even if we don’t label it.Friendship (philia)Friendship is the love dismissed. “To the Ancients, Friendship seemed the happiest and most fully human of all loves,” says Lewis, “the crown of life and the school of virtue. The modern world, in comparison, ignores it.” Why? Perhaps we know it’s the most time consuming, the least celebrated, the one we could live without. Perhaps too, as Lewis says, “few value it because few experience it.” …Romantic (eros)Different than friendship, lovers, “are always talking to one another about their love” and “are normally face to face, absorbed in each other,” says Lewis. The danger in romantic love is to follow blindly after a feeling of passion. Then,  we celebrate the passion and think its absence means such love has died. Certainly, true romance is not so fickle. Though the feeling is useful. “The event of falling in love is of such a nature that we are right to reject as intolerable the idea that it should be transitory,” says Lewis. “In one high bound it has overleaped the massive wall of our selfhood; it has made appetite itself altruistic, tossed personal happiness aside as a triviality and planted the interests of another in the centre of our being …Charity (agape)This is our chief aim, the unconditional love of the Father given to us through his Son. Affection, friendship and romantic love are each the training ground for charity to grow. It’s also a rival to the three. …There is no safe investment. To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket—safe, dark, motionless, airless—it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. The alternative to tragedy, or at least to the risk of tragedy, is damnation. The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell....

ABOUT THIS SHOW

Weekday morning prayers to practice beginning each day with gratitude.  Brief (2-3 minutes) and normally inspired by a song verse.  Some say that God rather more sung (than spoke) the universe into existence.. We (still) hear echoes of that tune, which we have never heard (ref   C.S. Lewis,  The Weight of Glory).I once heard that no good thing is lost in heaven, which maybe offers some hope that we will receive back the music and songs that were loved,  and hear them again in heaven.   Though like us, corrected and perfected.
