    Boundaries: The Holy "No"

There is so much demanding of our time and attention these days - and so many places where our time and presence are demanded of us. But we can't be everywhere all the time - and we can't do it all - even though we may like to think we can. But there is something sacred about drawing boundaries in your life, as difficult as it may be sometimes. In this episode Kate and Kellie talk about boundaries and how they are rooted in scripture beginning with God's example right from creation - and demonstrated all the way through the life of Jesus. If you struggle to say "no," and perhaps feel a sense of guilt when you do, then this episode is for you! Peace Through Doubt

Doubt is common - it's part of the human experience - something we all can relate to - but especially in the realm of religion and faith. So often we all experience crisis's of faith that often stems from our doubts and fears. And that's okay. You are not alone. Be assured that Jesus welcomes all of our doubts and questions - and in so doing, offers you a chance to be released from those doubts if you simply give him a chance. Kate and Kellie chat about the experience of doubt and offer a few ways to combat and reflect on this emotion when it appears. Culture: An Assault on Peace

True peace can be hard to come by - especially true inner peace? And why is that? There are many reasons - but one cannot ignore the way our current culture assaults our sense of peace. So how do we combat that? In this episode, Kate and Kellie lay out 10 ways culture assaults our peace and offers solutions to each one.  Welcome to Off the Rails!Contact [email protected] our our Socials:   / @otrpodcast40    / otrpodcast40  https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?...Check out our church:https://rosedalegardens.org/   / @rgpcfam    / rosedalegardenschurch    / rgpcfam Bible ReferencesJohn 14:27https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%2014%3A27&version=NIVPsalm 46:10https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2046%3A10&version=NIVLuke 12:15https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%2012%3A15&version=NIVMatthew 5:9https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%205%3A9&version=NIVMatthew 11:28https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2011%3A28&version=NIV1 John 4:18https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20John%204%3A18&version=NIVJohn 14:6https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John%2014%3A6&version=NIVRomans 12:2https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans%2012%3A2&version=NIVIsaiah 32:17https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Isaiah%2032%3A17&version=NIVOther ReferencesPastor Kellie's Reflection on Psalm 46https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_orZutoMzWU"Her" the Moviehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C51B50Qh6sIMary Chapin Carpenter - "A Girl and Her Dog"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkuUeI7nQXA"Fly to the Stars" by AurbanniAudio - https://licensing.jamendo.com/en/trac... Music licensed by Jamendo Licensing: licensing.jamendo.com

The Thing About "Thoughts & Prayers"

There is an odd controversy surrounding the phrase "thoughts and prayers" - especially in the face of national tragedies. Some people offer up thoughts and prayers as a way to engage in their faith in the midst of terribly circumstances, while others criticize the phrase, claiming that is not what is needed, but rather action and reform. As Christians, we adamantly believe in both - yet we also reject the idea that our thoughts and prayers and ineffectual. Cancelling Cancel Culture

We are all flawed - as human beings there is no getting around that. But what do you do when someone you admire - someone from whom you've learned a great deal - someone who has had a positive influence in your life - yet, somewhere down the road had a moral failure. What do you do with all the good and positive things you have learned from them, especially if they were a well-known, influential artist, creator, musician, or pastor? These questions ultimately lead us into the realm of "Cancel Culture" - a prevalent term in our day and age. But on a larger scale, do we simply dismiss the good an individual has done as they stand in the glaring spotlight of their moral failure and bad decisions? In this episode, Kate and Kellie converse about what it means to still learn from others, in spite of their failures, and how to separate the "God within" from our flawed humanity. The Necessity of Community Involvement

Many of us grew up being taught the importance of community service - and throughout our school-age years, we are given plenty of opportunities to engage. Yet, as we get older, and we have less time on our hands, it can be difficult to make community a service a priority. But what is the point, anyway? Why should one be active in the community in which they live and work? Does what we do really make a difference. The answer is a resounding, "Yes!" Our communities - our cities, towns, municipalities, and neighborhoods are only as strong as the services they provide for one another - and are only as strong as those who serve within them. Kate and Kellie spend some time talking about all the benefits of community involvement, both for organizations in which you serve, and for yourself!Contact [email protected] our our Socials:https://www.youtube.com/@OTRPodcast40https://www.instagram.com/otrpodcast40/https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61574572065272Check out our church:https://rosedalegardens.org/https://www.youtube.com/@rgpcfamhttps://www.facebook.com/rosedalegardenschurchhttps://www.instagram.com/rgpcfam/Bible ReferencesLuke 10:25-37 (The Good Samaritan) https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%2010%3A25-37&version=NIVGalatians 6:2https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Galatians%206%3A2&version=NIVMatthew 25:31-46https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2025%3A31-46&version=NIVHebrews 13:16https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews%2013%3A16&version=NIVLuke 24:13-35 (The Road to Emmaus)https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Luke%2024%3A13-35&version=NIV1 John 3:17-18https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20John%203%3A17-18&version=NIV1 Peter 4:10https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Peter%204%3A10&version=NIVOther ReferencesM. Episode 11: Authenticity in an Inauthentic World

In so many ways it feels as if we inhabit a world and that values performance over honesty - perfection over authenticity. So what does it mean to live a truly authentic life? What does it mean to live as the people we have been created to be without the pressure of having to live up to the culture's ideals? Kate and Kellie spend some time chatting about this very thing - and how following Jesus, the most authentic person to ever walk the planet, can help us to live our lives being the truly authentic, wonderfully created beings God intended us to be. We live in a day and age where mistrust is a growing concern. Institutional trust is on the decline, and the church isn't immune. We have a hard time trusting family, friends, neighbors, even ourselves. So how do we navigate this world in a day and age where trust is at a premium? These days are hard. For all of us - regardless of who you are; regardless of your political affiliation; regardless of your economic status; regardless of your age, etc. So what is your frame of mind as you look at the world around you? Do you simply shut down and accept the negativity, or are you interested in trying to be a source of light and kindness? If the latter, how do you go about doing that when it feels as if everyone else around you chooses the former? Join us in this conversation with the hopes that you, too, may find some insight into making the whole of your life a simple act of worship.Contact [email protected] our our Socials:https://www.youtube.com/@OTRPodcast40https://www.instagram.com/otrpodcast40/https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61574572065272Check out our church:https://rosedalegardens.org/https://www.youtube.com/@rgpcfamhttps://www.facebook.com/rosedalegardenschurchhttps://www.instagram.com/rgpcfam/Bible ReferencesGenesis 47:13 – “And Israel worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.”  Acts 2:42 - "They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. Episode 4 - Finding Your People & Letting Go with Grace

Welcome back to "Off the Rails!" Got your squad? Your peeps? Your Fam? Finding the right relationships can be hard - especially when you are in a time of life-transition. When you're in school, whether it was early education or post-high school, it's a little easier to find your people, especially when you are constantly surrounded by your peers. But as we get older, our circles tend to become smaller and it may get more difficult to find those relationships that speak to your soul. Join us in this episode as we talk about the value of relationships, how to find a community that inspires you, and how to know when it's time to walk away from a relationship with grace. And of course, we will speak to the immense value of having friends and partners and spouses who encourage you in your faith journey. Episode 3 - "Christian": A Powder Keg Word

"I don't want to be labeled as a Christian anymore." It seems as if this sentiment is being shared frequently among the Christian community as the word, "Christian" is a powder keg of misuse. More and more the word "Christian" is being associated with descriptors like judgmental, bigoted, homophobic, hateful, racist, misogynistic, exclusive, hypocritical and many more - and in the process, the message of Jesus is being lost. And we admit the church has most certainly earned its stripes in this regard. In this episode we tackle this issue with the hopes our listeners will be better equipped to hear beyond the negativity and instead, be exposed to the true nature of Jesus Christ and what being a Christian should really be all about.Contact [email protected] our our Socials:https://www.youtube.com/@OTRPodcast40https://www.instagram.com/otrpodcast40/https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61574572065272Check out our church:https://rosedalegardens.org/https://www.youtube.com/@rgpcfamhttps://www.facebook.com/rosedalegardenschurchhttps://www.instagram.com/rgpcfam/References:https://seekandyouwillfind.blog/2023/09/07/how-do-others-view-christians/https://www.str.org/w/what-do-non-christians-think-of-christians-and-christianity-Books by David Kinnaman -"You Lost Me""unChristian""Love Does" ~ by Bob Goffhttps://www.bobgoff.com/Craig Groeschelhttps://www.craiggroeschel.com/"Chicken Soup for the Soul: Christian Teen Talk"Bible References:Acts 26https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts%2026&version=NIVRomans 12:2 - "Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Episode 2 - Messed-Up Judgment

What is up with the church's need to be so "judgey?" As verified by research, one of the biggest issues people have with the church is its judgment - judgment of people's lifestyles, beliefs, opinions, choices, etc. As local church pastors, nothing infuriates us more. Afterall, Jesus followers have not been called to judge, but to love. We'll take a dive into this subject and hopefully show that this is not an aspect of the church, and his followers, that Jesus had in mind.Contact [email protected] our our Socials:https://www.youtube.com/@OTRPodcast40https://www.instagram.com/otrpodcast40/https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61574572065272Check out our church:https://rosedalegardens.org/https://www.youtube.com/@rgpcfamhttps://www.facebook.com/rosedalegardenschurchhttps://www.instagram.com/rgpcfam/Episode References:Carey Nieuwhof: "What's Behind Gen Z's Embrace of Confession & Revival?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Nx_1kIZ6ds"If God didn't send Jesus to condemn, I doubt he sent you." ~ Pastor David Huskins"Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead" ~ by Brené Brownhttps://brenebrown.com/book/daring-greatly/"Clean Up Your Own Backyard" ~ by Elvis Presleyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znDvZEAFUKYBiblical References:Matthew 7:2 - "For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."Isaiah 43:1 - "But now, this is what the Lord says—    he who created you, Jacob,    he who formed you, Israel:'Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;    I have summoned you by name; you are mine.'"John 10:10 - "And Jesus said, 'I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.'"John 13:34,34 - "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. Episode 1 - Welcome to Off the Rails

Welcome to the first episode of "Off the Rails"! As an introduction, we will share a little bit about who we are why we felt called to put this podcast together. Through this podcast, we hope to engage  listeners into learning more about who Jesus really is, and to challenge the ways the church has been unfaithful to his true message and the good news of the gospel. Looking through the lens of a post-Christian culture, we will share our thoughts and insights into how Jesus is more relevant today than ever, and give space for sharing doubts and concerns and questions.Contact [email protected] our our Socials:https://www.youtube.com/@OTRPodcast40https://www.instagram.com/otrpodcast40/https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61574572065272Check out our church:https://rosedalegardens.org/https://www.youtube.com/@rgpcfamhttps://www.facebook.com/rosedalegardenschurchhttps://www.instagram.com/rgpcfam/ References:"Covered in the Dust of the Rabbi" by Rob Bellhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkOZEt-KwZw"Stuff" by George Carlinhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDkA59e2_yUBible References:Psalm 23"I have come that they may have life and life to the full." ~ John 10:10"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
