Pastor's Moments

Often, believers get on their knees and say “God, I need a thousand dollars, send it to me, just send it to me." And they expect it to rain out of the sky. They hear stories of unmarked envelopes full of cash showing up in mailboxes. That does happen occasionally, but I've never ever seen a single dollar rain out of the sky in all my life. Have you ever been digging in your backyard and found a treasure chest full of hundred-dollar bills? Does a cash envelope show up every month to cover your bills? Of course not, because that's not how God's system works.

There are many things more important than money, but money is important. God would not have talked about it so much if it weren't. It's fully consistent with the Bible to have incredible amounts of wealth and still be a friend of God. In fact, you can do a lot of good things when you think in terms of wealth instead of poverty, when you think like a millionaire instead of a person of scarce means.

I’ve known people who were afraid to come to church because they felt they weren’t perfect enough. God’s Minute for You Today: “Serve Him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind.” (1 Chronicles 28:9)

Why did God honor Orel Hershiser, lifting him up to a place as a role model and hero who played in the World Series and was on the Tonight Show? Because he was humble.

Don't you think God wants us to control the wealth for His glory? Why else would He give His people the power to get wealth? But you never get to The Wealthy Place without planning for it. Psalm 66:12 How about you? Have you planned to be wealthy? Or have you limited your vision and stuck yourself on the first or second floor?

When I was eight years old, I wanted to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. One day my friends and I disobeyed my parents and followed a rainbow for six miles and never found the pot of gold. We were disappointed and deflated and our pockets were as empty as when we began.

Are you a bundle of nerves? Do you feel “in a hurry” all over? The Rolling Stones had a hit song entitled, “Here it comes – here comes your 19th nervous breakdown.” It’s true. The average life today is keyed to the breaking point, and that can be serious. Nervousness can destroy our relationships, disturb our zest for life, and wreck our peace of mind. Here’s a common-sense remedy...

What have you been putting off? A sales call, a kind word, time with your family? Remember, faith is always now!

Have you ever thought much about leadership? Nothing happens without leadership, in the home, at the office, on the job, in the ministry – whatever. Well, we’re all leaders in some way or other. And I’ve found essentially three levels of leadership in all walks of life.

How many times have you found that a fight started in your house because you held a grudge? Forgiveness is a powerful step toward peace. It dissolves any argument you have against someone. Jesus said Blessed are the peacemakers; not the troublemakers. Who do you need to forgive today?

If there's one thing I have learned, it is that the Christian life is full of paradoxes that my human mind just can’t figure out. One of them is this: Right after Jesus, in His sermon on the mount, said blessed are the peacemakers, He then said blessed are you when you are persecuted.

Do you want to be a success in life? Of course, you do. And all it really takes is three bones. That’s right…three bones! WISHBONE … JAWBONE … BACKBONE

There are dream stealers out there in the world today. Has someone told you, “It’s too late - you’re too old” or “too young” or too “something” to make your dream come true? Well today, your dream is going to be revived.

The Bible gives us all kinds of signs directing us to the wealthy place. Deuteronomy 8:18 says, "But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swear unto thy fathers, as it is this day." God is not careless in what He says. He means every word. He said plainly He has given you and me the power to get wealth.

Many people are distressed today. Their nerves are shattered over family, financial, or other problems. Distress actually means to be tormented and worn down; feeling trapped. It’s awful and can zap all your energy reserves, leaving you exhausted. But there’s a way of escape.

Whenever a person encounters a loss of some kind, he or she will either rebel and go backward or rebound and go toward a beautiful future. We all need to mourn properly when a loved one leaves this life, but over-grief or worldly sorrow can lead to a spirit of grief that can only multiply over time, robbing you of the bright future God has planned. I have noticed some symptoms which seem to appear in those who have chosen to rebel rather than rebound from grief.
