💥PHD'S SPEECH ACADEMY💥 Christmas Cocktail 🍹 Season 2 CAUSE A SMILE BY: ALUPO ANGELA Christmas is not broken. We are. Because the same God who split the sky with angels still whispers, in Matthew 28:20 “I am with you always.” But somewhere between December and survival, we forgot how to listen. People ask, “Why don’t you smile at Christmas anymore?” As if joy is automatic. As if faith doesn’t get tired. As if hope is not something you must keep choosing when life keeps choosing against you. Some of us don’t smile because the table is smaller this year. Some of us don’t smile because the chair that taught us laughter is now empty. Some of us don't smile Because we can barely afford the luxurious meals or the life we tend to live. And the world tells us, If you can’t afford happiness, fake it. But the Bible never said, “Blessed are the rich in December.” It said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. The first Christmas had no budget. No decorations. No audience. Just obedience. A young girl saying yes to God without knowing how she would explain it. A man choosing responsibility over reputation. A child born where dignity was not guaranteed but love was. “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given.” He says in Isaiah Not unto malls. Not unto brands. Unto us. Community — this season was never meant to be survived alone. We were meant to gather, to break bread, to laugh without filters, to share until joy multiplied. "They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts.” Acts says But now Christmas is quiet because community became optional. Because forgiveness became delayed. Because love became conditional. We didn’t lose Christmas. We misplaced its center. The true meaning was never a feeling. It was a decision. That God looked at humanity and said, I will not abandon you. “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” He said in John Not above us. Not away from us. Among us. So when people say, “I’ve lost the Christmas vibe,” it hurts — not because joy is mandatory, but because Christmas is remembrance. And forgetting what saved you is quite dangerous. Christians, we are not called to wait for joy. We are called to carry it. “The joy of the Lord is your strength" Nehemiah said Not your money. Not your plans. Not your perfection. Joy is strength because it survives hardship. So if you want to feel Christmas again, don’t chase excitement — practice obedience. Cause a smile. Visit the forgotten. Call the silent. Include the outsider. Share what you have. Forgive what hurt. Because celebration is not noise — it is gratitude. Christmas matters because it reminds us that God enters human suffering instead of avoiding it. It matters because it restores hope in seasons where hope feels irresponsible. It matters because it teaches us that light does not wait for darkness to end — it enters it. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John said So no — Christmas is not the problem. We are the hands meant to reflect it. The mouths meant to speak life. The community meant to look like Christ. This season, don’t ask if you feel Christmas. Ask if someone feels seen because of you. Cause a smile. And in doing so, you might just remember why heaven celebrated the day love decided to be born. ~hartley
