Queer Changemakers shares stories and experiences of LGBTQ+ leaders who are actively making a positive difference in our communities. From activists to entrepreneurs, artists to nonprofit leaders, each episode features a conversation with a Queer Changemaker sharing their vision for our world, how they are taking action, and how others can support and learn from them.     Inclusive Healthcare and Building Community with Dwight Venson

    Dwight Venson is changing the world and our community by promoting the inclusive health services provided by Whitman Walker. With multiple locations in DC, Whitman Walker is a federally qualified health center offering the full range of primary care, dental, pharmacies as well as some legal services (name/gender marker and immigration support), and insurance navigation.   In this conversation, Dwight shares his journey into this role, the people and opportunities in DC who helped him grow and get more involved and connected with the community.     Service, Community and Collaboration with the Modern Military Association of America

    Community Care with Jocelyn Jacoby

    Jocelyn Jacoby, she/her, is changing the world by serving as  a Program Director and Psychotherapist. At the DC LGBTQ+ center, her team provides free behavioral health services and survivor advocacy to LGBTQ+ and community individuals.  In this conversation, we talk about the DC LGBTQ+ Community Center's expanded new location, themes of mental health and other challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community, and how our community can come together to support one another.    Jocelyn is hosting a free therapist-facilitated conversation on mental health and community support on November 5th from 7pm - 8:30pm.     Using Technology for our LGBT Community with Chris Wood

    Chris Wood, he/him, is changing the world as co-founder and Executive Director of LGBT Tech, a non-profit organization aiming to bridge the gap between technology and our LGBTQ+ community through research, programs and events.     In this conversation, we talk about Chris’ background and journey into founding LGBT tech, which includes having being kicked out of their house to being held hostage by a suicide bomber.     Inclusive and Ethical AI with Raj Korpan

    Life is a Mosaic with Robert Michael Vanzant

    Michael continues to share his story, journey and perspectives in part 2 of this conversation.  In this conversation, we talk about themes of gratitude, resilience, and the importance of unity within the LGBTQ+ community.     A Life of Service: Robert Michael Vanzant's Journey in the DC LGBTQ+ Community

    Robert Michael Vanzant has changed the world by dedicating himself to the service of the LGBTQ+ community through various roles and initiatives over the past 50 years.   In this part 1 of this conversation, he shares his story from arriving in Washington, DC his early encounters with the gay community, and his extensive involvement in LGBTQ+ group and advocacy since the 1970's.   We discuss some themes of resilience, community support, and the intersection of race and identity are explored, as well as his efforts in starting key organizations and helping those affected by HIV/AIDS.   During this Black History Month, I enjoyed looking back and hearing some of the stories, challenges and beautiful moments from our past, as we continue to build towards a brighter future.

    Glowing, Growing and Going with JT from PrideNet

    JT  “German Chocolate”  (He/Him) is changing the world by advocating for a more holistic approach for LGBTQ+ health and healthcare. In his role as LGBTQIA+ Regional Engagement Coordinator (South), he finds a variety of ways to do outreach and connect with individuals and organizations on behalf of the Pride Study and the All of Us Research Program. Outside of that, JT also mentors youth supporting their journeys to grow, glow and go make a difference.   In this conversation, we talk about the value of healthcare organizations understanding the needs of LGBTQ+ people, building bridges between our LGBTQ+ communities and organizations, and the value of mentorship.     Humanizing LGBTQ+ Research with Alex Armira

      Alex Armira (they/she) is changing the world by expanding the ways LGBTQ+ individuals are seen in research as Communications Coordinator at PRIDEnet. They create graphic design, social media, and email content for PRIDEnet’s collaborations.    Through their high school and college years, they worked to create safe community spaces at schools for LGBTQIA+ youth through clubs like Gay-Straight Alliance – later changed to Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA). Alex advocated for changes at school to be more inclusive for LGBTQIA+ students and continues to bring that passion to PRIDEnet’s communications.   In this conversation, we continue to discuss LGBTQIA+ representation in research, the importance of community and safe spaces, and the experience of working alongside other queer individuals.
