Is Mental Health a Physical Health Issue?

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, R.B. and her guest, Dr. Robin Wiley, discuss the evolving understanding of mental health and the growing trend within the medical profession to view mental health as intertwined with physical health. They emphasize that not all mental health concerns are illnesses; many are episodic or short-term. Additionally, mental health issues are often underreported due to the stigma that still surrounds mental illness, particularly in the Black community.  Listen to this important topic.Dr. Wiley highlights the increasing attention given to mental health in elementary schools. This shift acknowledges the significant impact of a child's environment and the pressures they face from their peers. Schools are now more proactive in addressing and supporting the mental well-being of their students, reflecting a broader societal recognition of the importance of mental health from a young age.Be sure to comment and subscribe so that you are alerted to new episodes on this and other intriguing topics here, Where the Heart Touches the Soul!R. Courage to Believe

In Episode 10, R. B. reflects on times in her life when others gave her the courage to believe and remind her listeners that God uses people and circumstances to catapult us forward despite hardships. Every miracle, blessing, healing, answered prayer and even failure has been designed by God to fortify our faith. R.B. reminds us that God has given us abilities and one of them is the ability to rise above discouragement and feelings of hopelessness. God wants us to exercise these abilities, dig deep, and tap into the power we possess- the power of courage, while wrapping ourselves in His Word. When we press through knowing that God is faithful, He then undergirds us with His love and grace. What a great collaboration!!R. B.'s Kitchen Talk- Where the heart touches the soul.

    Sink or Swim

In Episode 9, R.B. shares her heart about the need for women to exercise self-care when it appears they are unable to fix life issues or change the people they care for.  Women must give themselves grace because while we are influencers, some things are just out of our control. R.B.  acknowledges that women are natural caregivers who give their very best to those they love. Women are spirited and determined to make a success of all they touch and it's hard to accept that they are unable to change the complexities of life.  Coming to this realization makes some women feel like a failure, but this could not be further from the truth. We are simply women who understand our limitations and that there comes a point when we have to make a critical decision to sink or swim--- to either go down with the boat or swim to safety and live!R. B.'s Kitchen Talk- Where the heart touches the soul.

    Living Art

Episode 8 is titled Living Art. I talk about how every human being is God's masterpiece. Men and women have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for a work of art based on what they believe it is worth. But only the artist can ascribe its true value. Likewise, since God is our Creator, only He can determine our value and he has appraised us as priceless. When we know our value, it can be radical and life-changing. No external factors, men’s opinions, approvals, or material things can define us when we know how valuable we are. Not even our failures or losses can diminish our value. We don't chase after love and affection, change our appearance to look like celebrities and influencers, or compare ourselves to others and we don't try to win acceptance by lowering our standards because we know that we are unique and perfect just as we are. We are worthy of love and respect and should never compromise our morals, goodness, abilities, and strengths to obtain it. R. B.'s Kitchen Talk- Where the heart touches the soul.
