Join us as we meet Liz Quinones, Artistic Director of Kinetics Dance Theatre, and Debbie Mobley, local actress starring in Sister Act at Ford's Theatre. Liz will preview the upcoming Kinetics concert, "Dance upon a Time", and share insights into her choreography for the HCC Spring Dance Concert. Debbie will take us behind the scenes of local theatre, recounting her adventures both on and off stage, and revealing how she landed her role as Sister Mary Lazarus in Sister Act.     Blossoming Japanese Ballet

    Razzle Dazzle Radio welcomes dance mavens Liz Higgins and Misako Aoki, who share their talents in the art of ballet and modern movement. Circle March 14-16 on your performing arts calendar for the annual HCC Dance Concert. Six choreographers will present original works for these shows. Misako Ballet Company creates classical ballet and Japanese-themed performances to bring joy to our community and increase awareness of Howard County’s cultural diversity. Look for this company at the Smithsonian during the Japanese Festival on Saturday, March 22. And do check out the cherry blossoms too!

    Curtain Call Magic

    The latest edition of "Razzle Dazzle Radio" will warm up the chilliest of performing arts fans with its salute to Irish Night at the College (Feb. 15,) Toby's hit musical "9-5," and Slayton House's long list of shows, cabarets, lectures and more. Join Carolyn Kelemen and Judy Templeton for this special nod to our local arts, especially "More Than Hope," a benefit at Owen Brown Interfaith Center on Sunday, Feb. 23, that lends support and takes action for refugees, immigrants, and asylum seekers.     Holiday Arts & Theatre Happenings in Howard County

    Razzle Dazzle Radio welcomes the magical world of “The Nutcracker” and other winter treats for the whole family. Aimee Moran, co-Director of Ballet Center Velle (BCV), shares memories of dancing and now directing the holiday classic “The Nutcracker, with her mom, Columbia’s longtime dance maven, Cindy Velle. Horowitz Performing Arts Center Director, Janelle Broderick, talks about the multi-cultural, all ages activities slated here at HCC.  She’s most excited about the Imagination Season, a program where kids get to explore the theater right from the stage, there’s also student music programs and a Senior Arts singing concert and much more, including a holiday arts sale and a Valentine Program for music lovers.     Fairy Tales, Musings, and Cancer Treatment

    Tune in to Razzle Dazzle Radio and hold on to your hats. Guest artists Lee Andersen and Diana Ulman are bursting with energy and enthusiasm for their artistic talent. Among her many endeavors, whirlwind Lee Andersen runs an interactive art museum, best described "as a pretend department store for the creatures of fairy tales, ancient myths, and other worlds,” located in the Long Reach Center off Tamar Drive in Columbia. The New Zealand native encourages visitors to find one’s inner artist by participating in one of many craft workshops, each one designed for kids and the "young at heart.” Her tips and encouragement bubble over as she speaks about her artistic clothing she designs and her extensive philanthropy, especially helping young artists. Jot down her upcoming events and be prepared to be dazzled.   Painter and visionary Diana Ulman gets things done in a quieter manner. She’s been honored for her paintings and musings by Howard County Arts Center and The Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore. She is totally involved in her son’s Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults. In 2019, The Ulman House, a hospitality house opened in Baltimore, open to all who needed a place to rest and restore after medical treatments nearby. Check out the Blue Jeans Ball on June 8 and meet the Ulman family.   We're honored to present these two outstanding women on Razzle Dazzle Radio.

    Superstars and Volunteers

    Co-hosts Carolyn Kelemen and Judy Templeton salute two “Superstars and Volunteers” on the latest edition of Razzle Dazzle Radio. Barbara Lawson is a longtime supporter of the arts and social justice. Ric Ryder has roots in Howard County and credits those who helped him make it to Broadway. And did he ever. Tune in to learn what it’s like to be in the spotlight and how rewarding it is to contribute behind the scenes. Both of our guests have volunteered for decades - Ric has sung at many AIDS benefit concerts here in Howard County, and Barbara was recently recognized by the Howard County Arts Council through their exhibition Visionary Women: Speaking up Speaking Out.

    What We Do For Love

    Co-hosts Carolyn Kelemen and Judy Templeton invite Leela Dawson and Ann-Marie Gover to share their stories about their love of performing and teaching dance. Leela plays the role of Diana Morales, a character in "A Chorus Line” at Toby’s Dinner Theater who is a determined, athletic dancer from the Bronx. Diana is streetwise, a little tough, and an eternal optimist. Both Carolyn and Judy give Leela’s performance 5 stars, thumbs up, and the strongest recommendation to see the show live through March 10th. Ann-Marie, a somatic educator and dance performance artist, is back in her hometown of Columbia, where she teaches and leads workshops at The Pearl. Her classes range from Introduction to Dance Improvisation to Step Touch, a dance party open to all levels of experience. And, if you love dance, you’ll want to check out HCC’s spring dance performance on March 15th-17th.

    Looking for an escape from the winter weather? Tune in to the latest edition of Razzle Dazzle Radio for some hot tips on what's happening in Howard County and beyond! Want to learn tango, the hottest dance from Argentina? John Bouman and his longtime partner Mary Jo share their lessons in this dance and other dances that will delight both young and old. We'll also be joined by Buzz Merrick, a singer/songwriter focused on Hootenannies - Pete Seeger-style protest music singalongs - and the promoter of a heartfelt benefit that helps those in need of housing, food, and friendship.     Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrations and Catching Up with Lance Newman

    Tune in Razzle Dazzle Radio for up-to-date info on  National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 - Oct. 15). And what a celebration it will be! Carolyn Kelemen and Judy Templeton welcome Gabriel Moreno from La Alianza Latina, a new commission in the county that as part of their work will be bringing Latino cultural events in Howard County especially Hispanic Festivals, starting  Saturday, Sept. 16 with dancing and music under the stars at the Lakefront in Columbia, Copa Com'Unidad, a soccer tournament on September 23rd, and the first Hispanic Heritage Festival at the Chrysalis on October 14th. Lance Newman joins Carolyn and Judy for a look at local and big time theatre. Lance grew up in a theatrical family - his dad was “Pete, the Pirate” on television, and continued his college courses in all aspects of theater. Currently Lance is promoting his newly-written musical with hopes of making it to Broadway.
