Episode 3: What is the Bible story about?

This episode is our second episode looking at the Bible and follows on from Episode 2, with guest Dr. Bill Fullilove, where we looked at ‘How do we know what is true?’ Today, there is a strong emphasis in Western culture on the significance of stories (or metanarratives as they are sometimes called). The idea from influential speakers is that stories are important in helping us make sense of a chaotic world and help us situate ourselves within a wider narrative. However, the thought goes that these stories are not ‘true’, they are just useful myths. In this episode, we will explore with best-selling author Sally Lloyd-Jones, the significance of stories and why we need a ‘true story’ to live well and the nature of the Bible—that it is not primarily a collection of 66 different books (like a library) but is actually one coherent story. The content of the Bible’s story; that it is all about Jesus Christ, that it isn’t just knowing about God through Jesus Christ but it is a poem and a song to move us to love him, that it helps us make sense of the world through a story of creation, fall, redemption, and New Creation, and that within that story we understand how to live by loving God, loving others, and loving God’s world. Follow along to learn about what the Bible is about and how a story can truly change our lives.
