Reluctant Journey With a Faithful God
by Venus Laney
As the title suggests, I didn’t start this journey as a willing participant. My husband and I had just started our “second act”, so to speak, as empty nesters. We had relocated and started new career paths on the coast of Virginia when an undiagnosed progressive illness interrupted my life and both our plans. In this time together, I share the frustrations and lessons I’m learning along the way as I navigate the unique challenges of chronic illness. What I have begun to recognize and hope to share with you is the faithfulness of the Father in the midst of it al!

Big God, Big Hand
Those words became a foreshadowing of the biggest move of faith Mike and I have ever taken to this date!! In this episode, I reflect on how God has taken us from glory to glory and what this next bold new step looks like now as we peer through a lens that has been transformed by recent experiences in His presence.

Fresh Oil
Thankfully when we come to the end of ourselves, the Lord is Faithful to refresh, refill, and restore. In this episode, I talk about the difficulties of empty nester mommas watching our "babies" navigate their own faith journeys, painful choices of missing out on important family moments due to chronic illness recovery physical demands, and the power of agreement in our thoughts.

The Power of Yes
Special Guest, Jake Laney, joins me in this special Advent-season episode as we linger over a timeless Dickens-inspired question: What if I had chosen differently? With hearts turned toward repentance and hope, we contemplate the mystery of God’s sovereign will and unmerited grace—how no moment is wasted, no prayer goes unheard, and how even a single ‘yes,’ surrendered in faith, is woven by God into His redemptive plan for the shaping of another soul’s destiny.

The Waiting Room
The journey begins with an unexpected illness and interrupted plans. Feeling unfairly trapped in a medical standstill, I turned to the only place I knew to find my strength. God offered me a lifeline with a Psalm of David I initially felt wasn’t “weighty” enough to adequately meet my specific needs of pain and isolation. I have never been more excited to be proven wrong…

Psalm 23 Soundtrack for the Journey
Amplified Version - I recorded this spoken word using my phone’s voice memo app for my granddaughters not long ago. These chapters have become such a powerful weapon of warfare for me that I wanted to arm them with it. I also thought this would be a great chance to share it with you! The piano piece is also from my voice memos. I wrote this melody back in 2018 and I guess God’s been saving it for a special occasion because it seems to fit the heart of this journey with masterful perfection. Only He could have inspired such a beautiful beautiful melody and hold it for such a precise moment . He is the Author and Finisher of my faith - I can’t wait to see what He has in store for us next…

Reluctant Journey Introduction
This was not the journey I expected to be taking at this season of my life. But what I’ve discovered along the way has been too amazing to keep to myself. I’m as excited as anyone to see what the next chapter brings. I hope you’ll join me in the adventure of a lifetime with the only Author that could create such an incredible story!
